We stayed at Howard and Lily's wonderful house for 5 nights during our trip to the Keys. Loved the house, it had everything we needed and more. We first saw this House on Home and Away a few years ago, and were really pears that it was available when we finally planned our trip to the Keys. The house is much bigger than you think from the photos, and spotlessly clean. Only hing that we didn't find which would have been useful was a washing line or somewhere to hang washing? Ideally located in Key Largo with many restaurants nearby - we loved Puerto Vallarta just nearby on the main highway, and also ate at Sundowners, good food but a little pricey. Thanks to you both for the champagne and key lime pie on our arrival - much appreciated, especially given our late arrival. The house was a great base for exploring, we visited Long Key, Islamorada, Marathon, (hired bikes here to cycle to Pigeon Key, Sombrero beach in Marathon is a lovely beach!) and the Everglades from the house. Spent two days in John Pennenkamp park too which is stunning. Nice to return to the house and sit out by the water after a day out and about. Lovely house and could not have been better located. Thank you so much you both.

What an absolutely wonderful stay we had at this rental. This was the first time using HomeAway and plan on using it again. The house was clean, in a great location, very serene and safe neighborhood. Champagne and Lily's Key Lime Pie awaited us upon check in and both were wonderful! We were centrally located so that we could go to serveral great restaurants and places to stop for cocktails. Wahoos: great grilled oysters! Gilberts: wonderful musical entertainment and a place to swim and sun. Within walking distance to a grocery story. Loved this place. Our hosts were very gracious in offering to show us around, etc. We had a flat tire on way to airport and Howard even showed up to see if he could help. Thanks for a great vacation Howard and Lily! I would recommend this property to everyone.

Finally we got the time to write a review. Upon arrival to the house you are greeted by a sign welcoming you to paradise. Well, we do for obvious reasons, not know how it is in paradise, but we believe this place comes close. The house A charming and nice house that radiates warmth and kindness; own wharf at a nice channel; an interior that makes you feel at home immediately. Nice and clean everywhere. Only one warning, as in the real paradise: If you have back problems, do not choose the beds upstairs, they are a little too soft! Key Largo's proximity to Everglade, John Pennekamp, The Keys and all the things you want to see and experience in the area is absolutely perfect. No noisy metropolis around, only houses that are nestled around an ingenious canal system. The perfect place for the perfect Florida trip! And by the way, Howard and Lily, no way back, you are then on the tradition: Cold Cava and Lily's lime pie in the fridge on arrival! I wonder if you get that in paradise. Then there is only one thing to say. With a quote from a famous American governor: We'll be back!

Celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and it was a great place to stay. A very unique house and very beautiful inside. I looked at the pics of the couchs before we went and thought they didn't look comfortable, but was surprised how comfortable they were. Beautiful woodwork inside. The canal is a great place to dock your boat and have instant access to. Great location!

We had a wonderful, restful time in this well equpped and very clean unusual home!!! We found it had everything needed to make our stay truely rememberable. We especailly enjoyed BBq' ing outside and enjoyed the quiet peaceful neighbourhood. Howard was especailly helpful and calling him for afvice was never a problem. We appreciated the nice touch of champange and key lime pie and cold glasses left in the fridge for us!!!! We will always remember our 30th wedding anniversary!! Our only recommendation would be to get a tray!!! We had to make many trips up and downstairs with food etc to BBQ!!

Owner response: Hi John/Debbie, Thank you so much for the kind review. We are so glad that your 30th anniversary was a big hit! It was very important to us that everything was just right. May you both enjoy many more anniversaries together! That is a great idea for a tray or maybe some kind of basket. Will for sure look into it. Thanks again. Kindest & Best Regards, Howard & Lily

You always wonder whether glowing reviews go too far - can it really be true? Well - YES, it can! My husband, sister and I had a totally relaxing, getaway weekend in Howard and Lily's Key Largo home. The house and all that it offered made it an uncomplicated, restful weekend. We read many of the tips from other guests and copied their suggestions. 1) We had very nice meals at The Fish House (Key Largo) and Bentleys (Islamorada). 2) We went to Pennekamp State Park for the afternoon and spent time one the beach with a little snorkeling. 3) My sister and I ventured into the Marriott poolside area, grabbed 2 chaises, bought a couple mojito's and enjoyed a couple hours of pool time! 4)My husband took the half day party fishing boat excursion with Sailor's Choice out of Key Largo ($40 cash) but caught more fish off the dock of our own little canal! I, too, had a blast feeling that little tug-tug after casting the line! Howard - You were a pleasure to deal with and we thank you for the sparkling wine and delicious key lime pie upon arrival. We cooked a lot - right there...and just felt so "at home!" Hope to come again sometime soon and invite other family members. Our thanks!

Hello Howard: Thank you again for the opportunity to spend a few days in Key Largo at your comfortable home on North Blackwater Road. We had a relaxing and enjoyable time! I will post a comment on the homeaway.com site but I did want to privately email you with some feedback. I have been quite busy since returning so I do apologize for the delay - you may already have another renter in! Just a few things: 1) The front porch light and interior shed light seemed to have burned out. They were both working when we arrived and we just noticed into the weekend that they were not on. 2) We broke one drinking glass while doing dishes. (We did a lot of cooking in - loved that!) To cover that glass we actually purchased 2 new plastic tumblers and left them in the cabinet. 3) We left a few things from our onsite meals to assist your future guests...seafood seasoning, olive oil, new tupperware, coffee filters. 4) We could not get the stereo remote to work for adjustments to the TV audio. Maybe a battery in that small thin remote?? or operator error?? :-) Again - we had an incredible time and thank you so much! Paula and Kevin and Barbara, too!

The house superceeded my expectations. I really loved it, although it is hard to describe as it is a truley unusual house. It was in a good neighbourhood and close to all the amenities. We went swimming with dolphins and snorkeling in John Pennekamp park - both were really close. Great restaurants near by too - Mrs Macs Kitchen and Calypso were our favourites. Howard was a very thoughtful host. We mentioned that we love key lime pie, so there was one waiting in the fridge when we arrived with a bottle of bubbly. Great after a 14 hour flight with kids. Our kids are 4 and 7 and they loved staying on the mezzanine level. I would definitely recommend this place to friends. Thanks Howard and Lily

We had a great week at Howard and Lily's home. It is centrally located with lot's to do in either direction. Very close to Pennekamp and some of the best snorkeling in the US. Lot's of great food everywhere. Bayside Grille was awesome at sunset. Airboating in the Everglades is only an hour away. Key West is a couple hours in the other direction but definitely worth spending a day there too. The house is very nice, quiet, and well decorated. The beds were very comfortable too. Kids will love the loft as well. Fishing in the canal was fun and productive. Would definitely recommend staying here! Thanks again.

Stayed 8th March 2011 for a week in this quirky house. Property is in a very nice area. Kitchen cupboards well stocked. Sofa's very nice and comfortable. Ample space for rest and relaxation. Pictures show an accurate description of what you will get, although some decoration needed to bring it up to excellent especially in the washroom. Very nice outside furniture and bbq and lovely sitting by the canal. Convenient to big supermarket, only a few minutes walk away which stays open late which was very good. Met Howard and found him to be very friendly and helpful, and it was a very nice thing to find a keylime pie and bottle of wine in the fridge. This was a nice touch. Plenty to do in the area, the Everglades are fantastic. Felt very safe at all times.

Dear Howard and Lilly, Wellcome to Paradise is an understatement, we had high expectations before arriving which were quickly washed away with your personalized welcome and visit to the house..you made us feel at home trusting us immediately which we greatly appreciated. Ann's beach at Islamorada, Dolphin swimming at Theater of the Sea and the cheap wine at the nearby Windixie supermarket were among the highlights of our breef but completely amazing time here in Key Largo! Thanks for all the advice, time and again your welcome.

My husband and I, along with our 14 year old daughter and her friend spent a week at Howard and Lily's home in Key Largo during our winter vacation. From the moment we walked up the stairs to enter the home, we were impressed with the beautiful decor and comfortable surroundings. My husband and I shared the private bedroom with the very comfortable bed and all the linens and towels we would ever need. The girls enjoyed the loft area with 2 single beds and a living area (including their own couch). The WIFI allowed them to stay in touch with their friends and family and we enjoyed them having there own "space". We could not ask for any more in a vacation rental. Howard was very helpful to any questions or needs we had during our week. The home was very clean and well stocked with "essentials" like towels, kitchen supplies, soap, shampoo and Howard and Lily even left us a Key Lime Pie for us to enjoy when we arrived. It was delicious!! One of the great things about this rental is how comfortable and fitting for it's "Paradise" name. We love the time we spent exploring the Keys, we went Para-sailing and rented a charter boat and went snorkeling on the reef (both were available next to Sundowner's Restaurant, which is excellent). It was so much fun that every night when we returned home we were exhausted....but we also liked being home and relaxing. There was so many choices at home for relaxing. We enjoyed looking at the fish in the lagoon, right on the property, or sitting under the home, enjoying coffee in the morning and a drink in the evening. We also had our dinners at the dining room table and relaxing on the leather furniture, watching a movie together. The fan and air-conditioners worked very well and over-all, this is the best place we have ever rented for vacation. I recommend Howard and Lily's home highly and we hope to book our week for next year as soon as we can! Thanks Howard and Lily for the best vacation we can remember! The Barnetts, Barre VT

My BFF and I rented the house the week before Christmas for a much needed vacation. The house was great, well appointed and very comfortable. We used it as our home base while we spent a week exploring the keys. We found it very convenient to several restaurants we enjoyed (Doc's Diner, Fish House and Num Thai) and the grocery store. We spent many evenings relaxing on the canal with a cocktail while the sun went down and even used the grill. I would recommend the house to anyone looking for a home away from home on their keys vacation!

We stayed at this lovely little spot for 2 nights in October 2010 and were very pleased with this home, which it really felt like to us. We dealt with Howard on the booking and check in/out and he was always friendly and easy to talk to and reach. I had some initial questions about cancellation policies and he was very accommodating with my questions. The property itself is fabulous. It’s a great location and I loved sitting out on the upstairs balcony after dark with a glass of wine and my lap top, hooked up to the WiFi, which they now offer, and listen to the sounds of lovely little creatures go “splash” in the night in the back yard canal. The sounds of crickets and other night bugs and birds humming and chirping away was like music to my ears and it added an enjoyable other dimension to our experience at this location. The home is immaculately clean and smells great too! Upon entering we felt instantly welcomed by the soft lighting they had left on for us as well as by the little treats they left us in the fridge, which we enjoyed very much. There is everything one would need if you wanted to stay in and cook; they have a b-bque for grilling down stairs as well as a fully stocked kitchen with spices, oils, etc. should you wish to stick close to home in the evenings or in the mornings. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were crisp and fresh. There were even a few necessities in the bathroom if you forgot some of your own, which we didn’t but it sure was nice to see they thought of that. We sincerely thank Howard for his hospitality, attentiveness and courteous manner and we thank both Howard and Lily for sharing this beautiful spot with us, it was a little piece of heaven that we will not soon forget.

Mejor amable y cordial saludo, Howard y Lily

The house was perfect for us! Highly recommend. Comfortable and clean. Plenty of hot water for a couple of teenage boys and a kitchen nicely set up for cooking quick meals. Watched shooting stars from the porch and made frequent use of the table for our nightly euchre game. Thanks so much. Numerous snorkel and dive guides were very convenient within 4-5 miles (we used Sea Dwellers twice and enjoyed their crew very much). We also dashed out to Key West for an afternoon/evening as well as in to South Beach another day. Well located for us. Good luck to you!

Thank you again for your help to stay longer in your home as planed and your hospitality. PS: choose it, book it !!! Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. My wife, 4 kids and myself spent the father's day weekend at the Leitner Keys getaway. We had a wonderful time, starting with a boat ride from Miami to Key Largo on our 33ft Hydrasport. Docking the boat was easy and provided us quick access to the fishing and snorkeling grounds. We first fished at Molasses Reef and caught our fill of yellowtail snapper. While the boys were fishing my wife and daughter had a great time at John Pennekamp (very close) swimming with the variety of fish that make it a home among the tourist. The following day, we went to Rodriquez Key and anchored the boat on a sand bar and enjoyed the day swimming and snorkeling. The home was perfect for us providing privacy and comfort. Clean and very well maintained I would recommend this home to everyone. If you want to experience the florida keys this is the home to stay at.

With what should we begin? Yes, with the house. There one only we can say, well-tended but the furniture isgetting a bit long in the tooth. All things in the house were functional. Joint adventures: There are so many things to do, therefore let's make ist short: Diving, sightseeing, meal, shoppen of all more or less in the vicinity. It is worthwhile to start from there. Altogether we would come back.

My wife and I were planning a getaway weekend for our 5 year anniversary and came across this listing which stood out to us. I didn’t know what to accept because I have never stayed at a vacation home we, have always stayed at a hotel. WOW what a treat! It was quiet, peaceful, and romantic. The home it-self was warm, cozy, and extremely clean. There was a super market 2 minutes from the home which felt nice because we could cook breakfast and lunch and save some money. Then for dinner we went out to 2 different restaurants to catch the AMAZING sunset! We had an incredible time we are already planning our next stay at the home but this time with our 2 kids to make it a family trip.

For my husband's 40th birthday, I planned a surprise trip for us to Key Largo and chose this rental based on the photos and reviews. I'm so glad I did! We loved, absolutely loved, the house. The neighborhood is so quiet and, even though it is a neighborhood, the house really feels as if you're all alone - very private. Each morning, we got up early and had our coffee and bagels by the water; it seemed like there were always birds calling or flying overhead, fish jumping ... so beautiful! We made good use of the barbecue grill, cooking either lunch or dinner each day. I had planned on taking my husband to a restaurant overlooking the bay for his birthday, but -his choice- instead we stayed home. I grilled lobster tails outside and we sipped champagne and watched the stars come out. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful house for the week. It feels so light and airy, cool and relaxing. We both loved it - really didn't want to leave it - and plan on coming back again very soon!

My wife and I spent our 30th anniversary here and it was everything we could ask for and more. I work in the oilfields where its a 24/7 job. We wanted a place that felt like home but was quiet and close to the water and site seeing. This was perfect!!!!! Howard and Lily are amazing. They made us feel like we had known them forever. Givin the opportunity we would love to come back with our kids and grandkids. Not only did we get to relax but we were able to go on an Everglades boat ride and drive to Key West. Anyone who is looking to get away and see the Keys THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY!!!!! Thank You Again to Howard and Lily for such a wonderful experience!!

We loved this house. Plenty of room for all your stuff, kayak or boat out the canal in the back, or sit and enjoy the quiet. Close to everything, including John Pennykamp park! Protected parking right under the house. Howard is a great host! Very nice, we can't wait until we can come back!

photos provided are to the tee! my wife and two children enjoyed the convienent location and privacy this property gave us. the house is gated and our car parked under cover of the A -frame. we could cook and make sandwiches between dives using the well equiped kitchen then had very comfortable bed to come home to. our dive camp was less than 3/4 mile away as was john pennekamp state park. key largo is said to be the 3rd best diving place on the planet! we're sure to return as we have a new favorite dive location and a great place to stay...

Once a year my father flies down and spends time with his three sons – this year we came across a great home in Key Largo. Walking up the stairs I was immediately blown away by the front doors – absolutely beautiful. As you open the doors you are greeted by warm wood tones, great amenities and an ever present feeling that you have finally made it to “The Keys…” As always when we are on vacation we eat A LOT, Key Largo was no exception – we started at Ballyhoos and enjoyed all you can eat Stone crab, later had lunch at Sundowners and enjoyed sailboats passing by! Another nice part of the vacation was being able to SAVE money by eating in – the kitchen was nicely appointed with all the essentials. We fished off the back dock and enjoyed Kayaking through the canal and into the crystal clear waters of the Bay. Our last day we kayaked out to the Bay again, skirted the edge and came across a Manatee! In the end this was one of those vacations that will always live on in our memories – a father and three sons creating memories someplace that will always be very dear to their hearts. Next question, WHEN DO WE COME BACK?????

The house is awesome, to say the least! It was really great being able to keep our boat docked up right behind the house, so every morning we could just pack it up and go on a new adventure. The Winn-Dixie right down the road was very convienent, along with the various resturaunts and shopping available. We really enjoyed our stay here and we even made new friends with the next-door neighbor. We will definitely be back here to visit again! Thank you!

My wife put me up to the impossible task of finding a rental home in the upper keys for a weekend getaway with our three children the wednesday before. No problem, I hit the various sites and made a few calls after some time this house really had the right combination of factors. The house was everything and more than what the web site showed. It is to sum it up, very cozy (Key West Style), the house has a good layout, on top of that the owner courteous and accomodating. We visited Buzzer's roost restaurant on Fri night for a fish fry and live music, Sat. we went to the Jacobs aquatic center for a day of water activities for the kids which included the kids diving of the trampoline for at least four hours straight! and some rest for us. We then attended the St Justin Catholic services that Sat Eve. @ 6pm and called it a night to get up early the next day for a full day @ John Pennekamp State Park for an awsome Snorkle trip to the "Christ of the Abyss" Statue and more rest time for us on the beach where there is a makeshift spanish sunken ship wreck for the kids to explore snorkeling, we biked, slept, ate and snorkled all day. We ended the day @ Snooks on the bay side for dinner. This place has a great "Keys" atmosphere, the food was pretty good. The advantage was that all these places we less than 5 minutes drive from the house. Overall it was a great time, thanks for your hospitality Howard. Juan & Milena Miami, FL

This little house is a gem. The property was clean and well kept. Big enough for 2 adults and our 3 adolescent kids. As the add says, the location is great with easy access to ocean and bay. We rented a boat close by and spent the weekend swimming and snorkeling. You can also kayak and fish from the house. The restaurants in the area were marvelous. The owner was efficient and very friendly. Highly recommend it. Loved it.

My husband, daughter and I spent a week at this property over our spring break. The home was extremely private and comfortable. It was the perfect location for our week in the keys. We were able to SCUBA at John Pennekamp Park, kayak the keys, and take day trips to Everglades National Park and Key West. Howard and Lily were perfect hosts and checked in with us regularly to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Thanks for a great week

After spending a week at this lovely home in Key Largo we can only say that, should you be searching for a vacation rental in the area, this is definitely IT! Not only is the house perfectly situated to take advantage of the best that the Florida Keys have to offer, but the owners are great hosts who will take care of you as if you were family. The home is incredibly comfortable, with every amenity you could wish for, an awesome bed (always important after a tiring, activity-filled day!) and a lovely, airy outdoor area right under the house that provides shade from the mid-day sun, plenty of parking space, outdoor shower, charcoal grill and a table and comfy chairs to lounge back in and enjoy that well-deserved brew you've been craving all day. Oh, yeah, almost forgot: there's also a great little Tiki Hut! If you have a boat you'll be very pleased with the dock that's right on the canal where we had the opportunity to observe wildlife up-close: herons, egrets and even an immense iguana! There's a Winn Dixie literally two minutes away walking distance and you're very close to the best restaurants that Key Largo has to offer. If you like fish and seafood in general, try the incomparable Fish House for some really fresh, delicious fare and great service. You're also close to the mainland for some touristy adventures like the Evergaldes National Park, the Miami Seaquarium or the Alligator Farm. And if you're there for diving, you're definitely in the right place! We had some really awesome dives on the Spiegel Grove, Duane and Bibb and incredible underwater photo ops that included bull sharks, turtles and tons of little cute seacritters. As already mentioned, the owners, Howard and Lily, are incredibly gracious hosts who will take care of you as much (or as little, if you want privacy!) as you wish. We would recommend this home to anyone without any reservations. Enjoy your vacation! Andreea and Mihai, New York

Had a wonderful stay in this really great house. We loved the coziness and warmth. We really like the layout of the home and location wise was just great for us as we did a lot of activities in and around the area. Fishing was fantastic although the waters required us to wear wetsuits when we went for a dive excursion. We visited the Swim with Dolphins, the Bird sanctuary, a number of Tiki bars and great restaurants, some sandbars, John Pennekamp state park (we snorkled the Statue of Jesus, and more. Lots of fun the whole 2 weeks and we loved coming home to your great A-frame in Key Largo. We will be back next year! Thank you for your hospitality and information. Great stuff! Really what dreams are made of! Thank you, Harrison & Lisa

We loved this place, very homey and comfortable after a day in the hot sun, my husband fished off the canal and even cought something, which is unusual for him. This location is close to everything, walk to grocery store, church. We spent the days at holiday inn pool and marriotts pool as well, no ?'s asked. many wonderful sunsets at The big chill, new resturaunt bar 1 mile south. We express our gratitude to Howard and family for their hospitality. Thank again, Kathleen Larson

Owner response: Thank you Kathy and Paul for your kind words. We are so very glad that you truly enjoyed your stay and we are looking forward to hosting your next vacation in the fabulous Keys! Thank you so much for those tips about the Holiday Inn and the Marriot allowing people to lounge around their pools as long as you buy a`drink or some refreshments. Also, we were excited to hear about your snorkeling the Christ statue at John Pennekamp and diving the Speagal Grove wreck. Did you get to any of the beaches and what were they like to you? Best wishes to you guys and thanks again.
