Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2004

Bob and Amy McMullen are no strangers to travel. They have been splitting their years between summers in Maine and winters in Arizona for quite some time now. But presently they are pretty much settled in Arizona, due to Bob's new job, but they still yearn for those glorious Maine summers. Rather than give up their great Maine home, they've decided to open it up for folks like themselves who want a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of the woods, fields, stream and wildlife their New Portland getaway has to offer.

Bob is a physician assistant and is presently teaching other PAs at a medical university in Mesa, Arizona. Amy has been in the home remodeling business for the past 10 years and prior to that has co-owned and operated a couple of bed and breakfasts on the Maine coast. She oversaw the restoration of this log cabin and brought it back from a very sad state to its present lovely and comfortable condition.

Bob and Amy presently live in Gold Canyon, Arizona where they share their newly remodeled home (another one of Amy's restoration projects) with three dogs and one talking parrot.

Why the Owner Chose New Portland

This has been our summer home that we have carefully restored from a very neglected and dilapidated condition over the past five years. We loved the privacy, beauty, and serenity of the stream and the great access to some of the best parts of Maine's inland mountains. Unfortunately (for us) we are unable to spend our full summers in Maine now but we are happy to offer this special home to others.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Watch for deer and moose in our meadow. We've had a family of foxes denning nearby in the past. The loons will call at times and there are always beavers in the stream that will splash their tails if you drift too close in a canoe! We love to swim off our dock, the stream is very deep and slow moving.

For a really great canoe trip, take your boat up Long Falls Dam Road to where it crosses Sandy Stream. Put your boats in and follow the stream all the way down to Gilman Pond and down Gilman Stream to home (you will need a second car or driver to pick up your car). It's a great way to spend a summer day!

We've caught many pickerel and bass right off our dock and you can explore all the great fishing holes up and down the stream.
