The Unique Benefits at this House
Here in this place called Highlands, NC, your senses will be very well pleased with the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings that it has to offer. In just a day’s time, we like to start with a morning walk or jog downtown, followed by a stop at Buck's Coffee for the morning newspaper, a cup of coffee and a warm danish. Occasionally, we'll stop at the grocery or hardware store for a few essentials before heading home to grab a quick shower. Next thing you know, it's time to head back downtown for lunch at one of our favorites like Madison's Wine Bar, the new Mountain Fresh deli or Pescado's for a great Highlands Burrito. After a leisurely lunch, we visit some of the very special shops to browse for a book, a gift, a birdhouse, a quilt, some clothing, an antique, or even some artwork. Now, back to the house to rest briefly before we take Hannah, our chocolate lab, on an afternoon hike in the neighborhood. As we arrive back, it's fast approaching that important cocktail hour. With a refreshing drink in hand, we find a little time to read or listen to some soothing music as a prelude to heading out for dinner at one of Highland’s many fine dining choices. Another option we enjoy is preparing some scrumptious beef tenderloin on the grill from Dusty's Market with a few side items to complement from the Rosewood. Often, we cap the night off with a good movie from the Brick Oven Movie Store. As bedtime arrives, we call it a night so we can start over again tomorrow. We've even been known to partake in some rich culture by attending a show at the Highlands Playhouse or the Performing Arts Center or capturing some great art at The Bascom, Western North Carolina's finest art gallery only a mile from our home. Occasionally, we also throw into our day a scenic drive, a visit with friends, a canoe trip, a spa outing at the Old Edwards Inn or even a day trip to Asheville or the Cherokee Casino. However your day shapes up, just do one thing for us, MAKE IT FUN!
In just 5 minutes and a refreshing walk, you will find this lake a great place to picnic, fish or canoe.
Just down the hill, you'll discover one of Highlands' favorite and most scenic dining spots. The tasty dishes are spiced right, plus you must see the Figel's 1200 bottle hot sauce collection.
A must see and easily accessible waterfall that you can drive under then jump out for a memorable Kodak moment.
Welcome to Western NC's finest art center that just opened in 2009. Enter across the covered bridge and indulge yourself with native cultural pleasures.
Treat yourself to a massage, facial or manicure at this nationally acclaimed $50M resort and spa then sip on your favorite glass of vino at the outdoor Wine Bar.
Explore this eclectic, hip atmosphere and dine on some of Highand's finest international fare.
This is a great area for fishing, hiking and swimming in the midst of the Cullasaja Gorge area.
Take a stroll under this beautiful 75 foot waterfall plus it's very convenient to Hwy 64 / Highlands Rd.
Here you'll find one of the premier rafting, canoing and kayaking centers in the Southeast with access to seven of the best rivers.
This delightful, independently owned coffee house is favored by locals and visitors alike.
Just off Main St., you can hike a half mile or so to the top for a cool view of downtown Highlands. Don't forget your camera.
This moderate loop trail is 2 miles round trip and offers very spectacular views at 2100' above the valley floor. You will witness the highest sheer cliffs in the Eastern US.
Roll the dice and pull the arm at one of America's best casinos just up the road in Cherokee. Take a day trip and try your luck!
Owner's Map of Highlands
Have you ever experienced a moment that was so meaningful and memorable that it sparked a major movement in your life? That happened to me in July 1993 as I was returning to Atlanta from a trip to Asheville, NC with my girlfriend. Growing up, I often heard about this place called Highlands. Along our standard highway route, we noticed the sign for an exit heading to just that place. I thought now's our chance to take a detour and see for ourselves what it's all about. As we drove those 9 curvy and winding miles up the Franklin Rd. to Highlands, we experienced some of the most scenic views and waterfalls ever. The defining moment was the sight of Lake Sequoyah before our very eyes draped by the most beautiful mountains in the back drop. I said this is it... one day I will have a home I can call my own amongst this special beauty. I was blessed with that dream coming true in 2000. I hope you enjoy our special place just as much as we do!
