An annual retreat that we look forward to without fail

Guest: Cinti travelers (Cincinnati Ohio)
Date of Stay: 07/01/11 Review Submitted: 11/13/11

My husband and I have been to Cundy's harbor many times, and have stayed in other houses but this is without a doubt the best place if you can get it! The location is incredible, with views that do not disapoint. We enjoy using the bikes to ride all over the island and into town, though walking is wonderful as well as sitting on the deck enjoying the sounds of the boats, birds and peace. The house has a fantastic gourmet kitchen with room to cook and eat and enjoy. Everything you need is there from the large lobster pot to baking pans if you are so inclined. This house has room for plenty to enjoy privacy and still get together for meals and communing by the fireplace. It has a TV but really, this is like our own luxury camp and we enjoy kicking back and enjoying nature. The wireless system lets you keep in touch with the outside as you need, so this has the best of it all. We will return next year without a doubt!

Beautiful Cundy's Harbor

Guest: Christa (Valley Stream, New York)
Date of Stay: 08/22/11 Review Submitted: 11/10/11

This home is beyond lovely, the amenities divine, and the surrounding scenery is so picturesque it only gets better with each turn you take. My husband and I stayed with our 6 yr old son, who loved walking down to the water to skip stones, sit on the dock, and cast some lines for fishing. It is a perfect spot for relaxing and taking in the quiet sounds of nature, enjoying the fresh seafood from right there in the water, and strolling around the neighboring areas. The home is quiet, spacious, well-kept with a classy sense of country style, and it's all only a short walk to general, local town shops and eateries and just a few minutes drive to fabulous local shopping, more great Maine eating, and all kinds of artisan boutiques and historic venues. If I could move to this home on Cundy's Harbor I would in a heartbeat, though I completely understand the owner never wanting to give it up. The home is splendidly appointed and maintained with all conveniences imaginable. The views are outstanding, and I spent much of my time communing with nature in the garden, on the patio, and through the lens of my SLR -- the scenery does not disappoint and I have so many photos of exquisite sunsets I can't decide which to frame for my home. Just looking at them makes we want to go back sooner rather than later. We will certainly return, again and again!

Cluttered Home with Owers' Things, Uncomfortable Beds on Beautiful Site

Guest: ollie (Philadelphia, PA)
Date of Stay: 08/13/11 Review Submitted: 08/23/11

We would not recommend renting this house. First, the closets and drawers are filled with owners’ things. In fact, none of us bothered to unpack because there was so much stuff inside cabinets, drawers, and each of the closets in the bedrooms. There is also stuff left out on every surface in each of the common rooms (the den, the main living room). Second, the beds in the master bedroom on the first floor and the bedroom on the second floor (last bedroom at end of hall with one bed only) were hugely uncomfortable. We had to put our mattress on the floor in the downstairs bedroom in order to sleep. Finally, the refrigerator (freezer as well) and kitchen pantry were cluttered with other people’s stuff—maybe a few things are fine, but it was filled to the brim with stuff, and again, difficult to store our own stuff. There is also poison ivy in and around the property which definitely, should not be there. The house is on a beautiful piece of land with great views--if owner could get rid of all of the stuff in the closets and drawers, and replace the mattreses, then it would be a very good rental.

Owner response:Dear Stacey, Please accept my sincerest apology for the less than satisfactory rental experience that you and your family experienced at my property in Maine. It is deeply troubling to me that your stay was less than stellar as it’s always my goal to provide a superior vacation experience at Cundy’s Harbor. Your comments have made it clear that I need to instruct my guests to reach out immediately should they find something amiss. It is upsetting to me that the house’s caretaker had not fulfilled his housekeeping duties. I have always tried to have my house be presented in a sparkling clean state for my guests. Please accept my apologies that I was not able to address your concerns during your stay. I’m constantly improving the house and I have immediately begun to address the issues you raised to prevent them from occurring again in the future. In addition to rectifying these issues, please tell me how I should make this right for you. If your stay was less than spectacular, I would like to be able to at least satisfy your expectations moving forward. I look forward to hearing from you and doing my best to remove any negative memory of your vacation at my home. Sincerely, Rick Wohlfarth

Beautiful waterside home packed with amazing antiques and art

Guest: Lisa (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 07/09/11 Review Submitted: 07/20/11

I stayed at this property with my family last week and loved it. It's a beautiful waterside house packed with amazing antiques and art. It's a home and not a rental house, so you feel like more of a guest than a renter. We had the opportunity to meet the owner, Rick, at the start of our stay. He was super nice, welcoming and full of good advice about the area (restaurants, art galleries, things to do, etc). He even asked his caretaker to take us on a boat ride during the week which was a fabulous way to see the area and hear local stories. A trip highlight!!! I really liked the location. It's beautiful (water everywhere!), quiet and secluded. Restaurants and things to do are pretty close by (15-20 mins) on the islands of Harpswell (Bailey, Orr, etc. which I loved exploring) and in Brunswick. Portland is about an hour south/west and Boothbay/Camden/etc are an hour north/east, so it's a great home base. The only negative comment about this wonderful property is that some of the mattresses were more comfortable than others. Overall, we loved it and would highly recommend staying here.
