We've just returned from a dream vacation on the Bahamas, Long Island. A real paradise island! (do not stay in Nassau and Explorer Long Island) The flight from Nassau to Long Island is 45 min and you have the best views. Passionate Pelican is a beautiful house with everything you could possibly need for a perfect tropical holiday. The owners are nice and the email contact was friendly. Nancy was our pickup from the airport and providing us with all useful info’s and giving us a ride when we rented a car for a day. So sweet. We really loved staying at The Passionate Pelican it is a perfect location for a getaway and still have al the comfort and a lot of privacy. The house is light, airy and beautifully and there is a prived beach (when low tide) connected to a long stretch picture perfect beach. The best views just in front of the villa, from the deck and the big sundeck. Even nighttime the stars are so clear its magic. Deckchairs and kayaks at your disposal. Warm and Cristal clear water and lots of turtles and big stingray’s passing! The WiFi connection was reliable. But try not to use it. Just stock up the refrigerator and read a book that was waiting for you and enjoy the company your with. It is the real paradise. L&L

My husband and I stayed at the Passionate Pelican for the whole month of March in 2011. We had taken a look the year before and knew right away that it would be a perfect place for us. The cottage is very well maintained, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The location is on one of the most beautiful spots on the island, and views from the cottage, inside or out, are fantastic. The whole time we were there, we could look out front and watch turtles every day. Barry and Cheryl are great hosts, and the cottage manager, Nancy, is a jewel who can help you with any request. The new deck is great for sunbathing, but there is also a covered area with plenty of shade. Both are surrounded with lots of tropical plants and birds. Even though the owner's home and another small cottage are part of the same property, there is plenty of privacy. The beach out in front is great for swimming and kayaking. There is easy walking access to a very long, white sand beach for morning and evening strolls. Be sure to rent a car to visit all of the amazing beaches on Long Island. We enjoyed eating at the Rowdy Boys restaurant, Da Danz restaurant (call ahead), and the Outer Edge Grill which are all in the area. For great take away, stop at The Forest II, which is about a half a mile south of the turn off for the airport in Deadman's Cay. We also enjoyed the drive all the way north to Cape Santa Maria for lunch, stopping at every straw shop along the way. Don't miss the Long Island Museum in Deadman's Cay. Good groceries can be found at Sea Winds in Petty's, and Hardings or Hillside grocery stores in Salt Pond. Shop on Thursday or Friday for best choices as the freight boat comes in on Wednesday. Sometimes even Wednesday late afternoon or evening the new things are already out on the shelves. Go on Monday or Tuesday to the Government packing house in Clarence Town for very reasonably priced fruits and vegetables - wonderful papayas in March, green peppers, tomatoes and even sugar bananas if you have time for them to get ripe. Ask Nancy about ordering fresh, homemade breads and rolls or call Seawinds, as they have someone who bakes, but you will need to find out when fresh things arrive. Look for the homemade jams and jellies with homemade labels that are in the grocery stores. Seawinds carries a large choice. Good to eat while you are there, and they make great gifts. Stop in the straw shop in Clarence Town for beautiful items to take home.

We spent a week here, during the Christmas holidays in 2010, on our first trip to the Bahamas. We picked this island/property based on the description we saw on VRBO website. The moment our car stopped at the gate of this lovely cottage, we knew we had made the right decision by picking this place. The cottage was in impeccable condition – beautifully furnished, fully stacked with essentials, and spotless. The panoramic view from the deck is breathtaking. We loved waking up in the morning, and gazing at the glistening ocean right from our bed followed by a swim in the ocean backyard. Both Pilican Cottage and Long Island totally exceeded our expectations. The property manager (Nancy/Cina) was always there to help us whenever we needed some help with the local matters. We traveled all over the Island from Cape Santa Maria on the northern tip to Gordon Beach on the southern tip. Clarence Town is one of the most beautiful places on Long Island. Our top three picks are watching sunset in Gordon Beach, Dean’s Blue Hole, and Snorkeling in Cape Santa Maria

Upon arriving, halfway up the stairs we dropped our luggage and dropped our jaws. What an amazing cottage with an exhilarating view! The Passionate Pelican was better than expected. First class accomodations and service were provided. There is great snorkeling, beach walking and a blue hole, right down front from the cottage. Our adventures on Long Island included exploring, snorkeling, fishing and eating the excellent local island food. The Forest II restaurant had the best cracked conch! If you want a delicious home style meal to take back to your place, Cheryl at Le Pon is close by. Another one of our favorites was the Hot Spot, where we enjoyed the cracked lobster and Strongback Stout! A must see is Columbus Point on the north end of the island. The view is outstanding. We also spent several hours snorkeling at Dean's Blue Hole. Gordon's Beach at the south end of Long Island will leave you trying to find footprints or other people. We found the people of Long Island to be the friendliest and the most helpful compared to other Bahamian Out Islands. The owners, Cheryl and Barry, plus their resident care taker, Nancy, will make you feel right at home the moment you arrive! We would definetlly recommend Long Island, Bahamas with a stay at the Passionate Pelican to anyone.

Being a pilot longing for a relaxing time and a 20 year dream of flying the Bahamas, we picked Long Island for our base camp. We chose the Passionate Pelican for its central location on the island. The small cottage for two was perfect in size and ammenities. We like cooking our own breakfasts and then fixed lunches to take to the beach. Most beaches we went to, we literaly had them to our selves. Nancy, the local contact in charge, was very accomidating, picked us up at the airport, and had our rental car at the cottage. Our first time in the Out Islands of the Bahamas, plan on everything very layed back and extrememly causual. We have been to almost every Carribean island to South America, but will have to say the beaches, sand and surf in this local were suberb. Shelling was excellent, boy, do I have a collection now! Small restaurants are the norm, would reccomend Rowdy Boys over all of them. Or the lonnnngggg drive to the north end at Stella Maris resort. Don't eat at the Marina, please. The cottage was as advertised, very quiet, and great place to get away from it all. Highly recommended.

We have traveled the Caribean for many years and as much as we have liked a property and island we seldom would return, well that use to be be the story untill we found this property and this island! It truly is a Little bit of Heaven on Earth. The property was everything as promised. Clean, well equited and a view to die for. If you want to kickback and unwind this is your place. Don't expect fancy restaurants or shopping malls for it has none and we can only hope it dosn't change. Nancy the property manager is wonderful. She had all the info we needed. Where to dine, where to shop and even where to fish. She saved us a lot of time and energy. We arrived on a Sunday night when all the stores were closed, but Nancy made a few phone calls and she was able to open serveral stores. I guess you just need to know the right people(she's one of them). The Bone fishing here is great, I'm not much of a fly fisherman, but I was able to catch 6 Bones, a Jack and a Baracuda. Were else can you fish and have Sea turtles,Sharks and giant Tiger rays swimming by you. Lockabar Bay is very shallow, alive and also a good place to swim and snorkle. We cooked in most nights with fresh Crawfish,Grouper and Hog fish. We did find Maxes Conch Bar and The Outer Edge and both were great local restaurants. Try and believe this, there a no burger places,no pizza places and no chain restaurants. Thank the Lord ! You may want to rent a 4 wheel drive if you are going anywhere other than the one main road. There are some great places to see Deans Blue Hole were the water goes from angle deep to 660' in abut three steps. The northern end of the island is worth a drive, it has many small fishing villages and hill side views. At the far north end you'll find Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort. It's about 1 1/2 hour drive. Great place to dine, try there Conch Fritters. I'll close now and hope I'm leaving you with warm thoughts of the perfect getaway. Michael
