This House is on the site where one of the first houses in the area was built circa 1940's. It was an old stucco house with no indoor plumbing and a wood stove. My Grandmother bought it along with the 40 acres that surrounded it in the 1960's from an elderly woman that was fond of cigars. A new house was built next to it in 1974. The old stucco house was eventually tore down in1998 and buried on the site.
The Newer Home now on 3 1/2 acres, has 2 living rooms. The upstairs living room has 2 large picture windows that have a scenic overlook of 2 ponds. Deer and turkey are present quite frequently in the mornings and evenings. There are small fish to catch and release along with plenty of frogs and turtles. There is a Paver/patio area with chiminea and tiki's to relax and barbeque. The (1900's) pavers were saved from when the old brick (paved) courthouse street in Mauston was tore up and black topped. There is a trail that leads to a private campfire site that has huge Oak logs hewned into fireside benches.
The house is a short walk to Castle Rock Lake (.43 mi) which has multiple taverns, eateries and boat landings. Boat rental is available at local lake establishments. It is about 9 miles from Mauston, 8 miles from New Lisbon and 11 miles to Necedah. It is roughly 30 miles from the Wisconsin Dells. I began this rental with the idea to have the LOWEST RATES with the most to offer so more families could afford to have a GETAWAY vacation. Come and enjoy a worry free vacation with everything you could ask for. If you would like to stay at our home, please call or email to set up reservations.

This was our second year here for New Years and loved it just as much as last year. The house is cozy and warm and isolated enough to have the nature feel without the "lost in the middle of nowhere" feel. :) it's close to K-mart and grocery stores in case you forgot to bring something. We didn't realy get much out of the house. Spent a lot of time playing games and watching movies and having a great time with friends. Definitely thinking about coming back next year for New Years and probably going to try to come back in the summer too. Cyle (the owner) is just so easy to deal with, everything got taken care of pretty fast so I loved this place.Owner response: Thanks Anca...you have to come back next year....now you have made it a tradition! :)

First off I want to say this was everything I was looking for. I went to have Thanksgiving with my family 11 of us total. There was plenty of room and the place was a home away from home. The fire pit was amazing and the property was just secluded enough. Cyle and Vicki were amazing to work with and very accommodating. I have stayed at many of these rentals and this couple were by far the easiest to reach and the best to work with. I really cannot say enough good things about these owners other than I will be staying again in the future. Thank you for an outstanding experience.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks Bill, if kindness could kill I would be dead! LOL see you next time. :)

This is the fourth stay we have spent at this cabin. Always clean and ready for our arrival. The owners are flexible with arrival and departure times making things much more convenient for coordinating with everyones schedule. Can't wait to come back! Thanks for the beer:-)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Anytime Andrew, it was great seeing you all at Shipwreck, I could feel the house was really used as I intended this last weekend, a home away from home! Thanks for the Carmel Apples now come over and hunt these coyotes. LOL

The rental has been used for my annual girls weekend for several years and we ALWAYS love our time there. So much so, that when I was assigned the task of finding a location for our office "Team Building" day - I knew exactly where I wanted to take the crew! Everyone loved the house and of course the amazing fire pit! As always, Cyle and Vicky provide a great retreat location at an affordable price! Thanks GUYS!!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you!! Nicki, see you next year or sooner :)

This is an "ok" rental property. It is spacious, and is in moderate to good condition. Its location is ok not secluded, also not on a busy road. It is .7 miles from Castle Rock Lake, where there is a private camp ground and boat launch and a Bar and Grill, no public swimming location there. The closest swimming location we found is at "Buckhorn State Park" about 6 miles away for Five dollars per hour. The listing description was accurate except for the "Boat Repair Business" located approximately 75ft from the house and does share the front driveway. The grounds were ok, the area of the patio and grills could use a little work. The "Resident Duck", is frendly but can be annoying at times. When ever we needed to contact the owners, their response was fairly quick and courteous. The area attractions and restaurants are good which we did appreciate. Karl&Nanette TEXASOwner response: Like everything in life how someone views things are relative to the person. Some may like the movie -Dances with Wolfs- and some may not. The distance to the lake like I said in the website is -walking distance- about 1/2 mile. I didnt get out a Department of Transportation measuring device to measure, I just jumped on my Harley and went down the road, I didnt really take it all that serious, in a nut shell it is -walking distance-. As for the swimming, there is a swimming beach right down the road -walking distance-. I swam there for most of my life. It is shared by the people who own the condominiums so maybe Karl did not realize that it is also for public use. There is another public use Beach about a mile -walking or bike distance- down at the Dirty Turtle, my daughter still swims there all the time. If you decide to go to the Buckhorn State Park to swim which is a nice place to visit anyway, it is $5 a day for use of the whole park per car. Rockets Boat repair is ran by a really nice guy named Jeff. He works hard and is great for fishing information or anything you want to know about the lake or area. The house has two driveways one will bring you past his shop the other not. The shop is a fair distance from the house, much further than most cabin rentals are from each other. He closes @ 5 everyday. The home, shop, campfire site and trail is all located on 3 1/2 acres of land. If you cannot find seclusion somewhere, you are not looking very hard LOL! I have a nice comfortable 5 bedroom 2 bath -Home- at a reasonable rate. My wife and I are simple common people with full time jobs and family. I turned the home I was raised in, into a clean, affordable place for people that are like us to -getaway- with family. If are looking for pristine, perfection beach front with maid service and mints left on your pillows, there are places that fit that criteria. If you are looking for a quiet home away from home-, -very near- the lake, come and check it out.

Great place if you want to getaway, or for a family vacation. 6 Women on the loose, it was great. The house was wonderful, actually more than what we expected. Cyle/Vicki were awesome to work with. The fire pit was great, hope we were'nt to loud for the neighbors. Great memories. Tubing and gambling were close. I give it high ratings for anybody looking for a home away from home. Thankyou so much for sharing your home with us. Debbie Bunkoske and girls.Owner response: Thanks Deb, glad you girls had a blast! Next time you will have to bring your ATV's, they just opened trails through out the whole area. We plan on doing some changes on the house before next year also. I don't know if you girls made it to the hidden cave, if not the wife and I will bring you personally next visit. See Ya'll then! Cyle and Vickie

We had a GREAT time on our 4 day mini family reunion!! Cyle and Vikie communicate very well and are very accommodating!! The home is very clean, and enough room for our 7 adults, 4 children, and 3 dogs! It is so close to the lake, lots of trails for bike rides, and the fire pit is AWESOME. The Dirty Turtle and Shipwreck Bay are really close to the house and fun places right on the lake. We had a very relaxing, fun time, and will be back again! Thank you for everything!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: When I know people have enjoyed their stay, it gives me the ambition to keep trying even harder to make it everything people expect when they come to visit. Thanks Racquel your my pep rally!!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1966
About the owner: Taken at the Dirty Turtle Bar on Castle Rock Lake. We have 3 children (one still in the nest) and have been married for 24 years. I am a Correctional Sergeant and my wife is a Nursing Assistant.
Why the Owner Chose Castle Rock Lake:
My Grandparents John and Wahneeta, bought this property in the early 60's. It became Johns Castle Rock Acres Subdivision. My Grandfather named all streets with words that started with a 'W' in honor of my Grandmother. I was raised on the property and bought it from my Grandmother in 2001. It has a lot of memories and happens to be located in a wonderful vacation getaway area. I decided to turn it into a vacation rental and let others enjoy it as much as I have.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The Lake area businesses are awesome with scenic veiws everywhere, all within walking distance. The house is comfortable has a historical type feeling of how it used to be before it became 'built up' in the area. There is a nice secluded path through the woods that has a private campfiresite. It is one of my wife and I's favorite places to relax.
