The Sailfish Beach Resort (formerly Sailfish Gulf Suites) is a small family-owned resort. There are no hallways, stairs, streets,or elevators to traverse, one just needs to open your sliding glass door to the patio, walk five steps and you are touching sand - you're on the beach! There are not many properties like this on the island. We have a one-bedroom spacious unit, with king-size bed, sofa-sleeper in the living room, full kitchen, and sunsets on the patio.

We are located on a quiet stretch of Gulf Drive, walking distance to an outdoor cafe and the island trolley. Plus, the local grocery store is easily accessible from our place if you want to make your own meals, and stay close the beach.

Our little resort is managed by Jeanne, who will make you feel right at home with her Florida charm. She has a passion for gardening, so something is always blooming at our place.

Beachfront-Open Door and Beach is There! Spacious 1 BR Flat

Year Purchased: 1972

Why the Owner Chose Holmes Beach

This family resort was a dream of our parents. We had a tiny cottage on the south end of the island, but my mom wanted to be on the water. My dad drove up and down the west coast one day, looking for a place on the water. He found our little 4-flat resort around 8PM, called my mom who drove over and met him there, and they proceeded to negotiate with the original owners and shook hands at midnight. My mom had her place on the water.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

There is nothing better than the sunsets while sitting on our patio, or watching the dolphins pass by in the morning, or just being able to go inside for a glass of water whenever I want to do so! We've had manatees swim by every so often, so this place is magical.

Owner's Map of Holmes Beach

The Lantz family began coming to Anna Maria Island in 1968 when our folks (mom was a second grade teacher and dad an Educational Psychology professor at USF) purchased a small cottage on the south end of the island, one house from the bay. We enjoyed the cottage for years but being next to the water was one of mom’s goal. She grew up near the shores of Lake Superior (a tad bit colder than the Gulf) and being next to water was in her blood! When the Sailfish came on the market in 1972, my folks made the plunge and purchased it making them “resort owners”. At that time period, the gulf came all the way up to the seawall, which was located where the patio now ends. Paradise!

Our family had many great years at the Sailfish and continues to enjoy it as we have grown with our own children. We were all avid swimmers, and with my childhood hopes of becoming a mermaid, being right at the water’s edge was extremely special for us! On calm days we would swim to the buoys and dive for sand dollars. When the weather kicked up we would body surf up and down the shoreline, or try our hand at surfing. We spear fished near rocks off or our beach, attempting to catch our dinner. When we needed a rest we would walk the beach hunting for the lion’s paw shell or take it easy on the patio. Life was always good.

We truly believe that the Sailfish is a very special place on the beach. No roads to cross or hallways to go down, just open the door, and you are there!

Just returned from a beautiful place in the sun...Sailfish Gulf Suites (now known as Sailfish Beach Resort). We had such a great time; the weather was gorgeous and so was the view from our suite. Thank you Jeanne for making us feel so welcome...like we had been there many times before. There is no doubt that we would like to come back next year around the same time. Hopefully we can bring some of the family with us next year. Take care until next Oct.
