This was our second stay at Fortuna and well worth the return. The comfort of the house, high ceilings, spacious feeling all made the 6 weeks a pleasure. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bathrooms large and beautiful and the roof top deck so nicely greened by olive trees and flowering cacti. We also enjoyed our breakfasts sitting on the entry level patio watching the hummingbirds swoop in to feed on the courtyard flowering bushes. This is a wonderful place to stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

The property is as beautiful as promised. Spacious, clean, comfortable and very private. An oasis away from the long days you want to be out exploring the area. For out of town exploration, the bus station is a comfortable 15 minute walk (whic we did) or a very short taxi ride and Centro is a similar distance, although up a walkable grade to the Jardin. Local markets close by provided basic provisions of fresh fruit, milk and bread which made our stay feel more like home to prepare some of our meals. Finally the property manager, Norma, was a pleasure and made sure our arrivial and departure were smooth and seamless and transactions with the owner was timely and responsive setting up the rental. My wife and I highly recommend this property to others.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

----what an amazing place this is. Although this was our first trip to San Miguel we could have not anticipated any better accommodations. The phtos posted on line dont adequately convey how truly majestic and comfortable this property is. The craftsmanship is mesmerizing. Before you go, note the following things that are not specifically listed 1) Water: This house does indeed have a treated and purified water system. In addition bottled water is supplied and plentiful. 2) FIreplace in winter: The one living room fireplace, miraculously enough adds warm to the entire house. 3) Access to El Centro: there are two routes - one that is level and about 20 minutes by foot and one shorter but requires a bit of a climb up a hill. There is a bus stop right outside the front gate and taxis are inexpensive (about $2.75 US) almost anywhere you care to go. The neighborhood is clean and extremely safe and quiet (well except for New Years Eve). So the location is great and the roof top view UNBEATABLE! 4) Norma: The house manager is a GEM! We had a problem witht the firepace on the terrace and she wcame right over in about 20 minutes and had the lines cleaned out the next day. 5) Hot water - is plentiful thanks to teh on-demand hot water system. Even though we were told that one of the showers would take a while to warm up - we experienced no problem whatsoever. 6) It is only a 10 minute wal to teh central bus terminal, so great for day trips to other locations, such as Guanajuato. We hated to leave and look forward to returning some day.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We just recently spent one week in San Miguel and had the pleasure of staying at La Fortuna. The home was the perfect size for our small group (three people) although it could have accomadated a much larger group. The home is furnished very nicely and was very clean. The roof top terrace was truly spectacular; perfect for morning coffee and late night margaritas. The walk to town was short and we felt very safe, even late at night. The owner was great to work with and made us feel at home. We plan on returning to San Miguel in a few months and would stay in this lovely home again if it isn't booked. We highly recommend this property.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We have just returned home from spending six wonderful weeks in the comfort of Casa Fortuna...one of three houses located within a large open space behind a gated wall. The house itself is beautifully designed with a mixture of both Moorish and Mexican features, is attractively and comfortably furnished with a well-stocked kitchen in terms of utensils, pots, pans and appliances. Every morning we would have our breakfast on the roof where you can choose from three different areas to sit. Each area is fully furnished and has trees, bushes and plants in pots. The view from here is spectacular as, in one direction, you have probably the best view of the town highlighting church spires and domes as well blocks of reds, oranges and yellows that is the housing on the town's slopes. The backcloth for this mesmerising sight are the hills and mountains behind the town. In the other direction there is a wide panorama of the valley with mountains in the distance behind which the sun sets. This was always our favourite place to sit...either in the morning or else with a drink in hand, watching the sun go down and the ibises migrating home from the nearby dramatic botanical garden, located in an arid canyon (a "must-see" when you visit...take the tour). The house is situated about a 15-20 minute walk from the El Jardin...the centre of town. However, if you're feeling lazy, there is a slow and quiet bus that stops right outside the front gate that will take you there over cobbled roads for five pesos. We generally walked into town as we enjoyed peering into the numerous galleries, stores, restaurants along the way. The house is located in an area called San Antonio, mainly Mexican but with some North Americans living there as well. There are a number of small grocery stores close by that are useful to shop in but for larger needs, there is an excellent super market (Mega) only a five minute taxi drive away (25-35 pesos) or else 30 minutes walking. Be sure to shop across the street at corner store and enjoy the warmth and humour of the two women owners. Casa Fortuna is quiet and well maintained with a cleaning lady that arrives three times a week. A binder in the house has suggestions for eating and visiting. We found the owners exceptionally friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning to spend more time in Casa Fortuna in the future....the pictures on the web don't do justice to how attractive this place really is.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed at Casa Fortuna for several weeks in December, 2010. The house is even more stunning than the pictures show. We felt like we were staying in a small castle, what with all the stone and cement--and yet, it was comfy, too! Loved having the fireplace in the mornings and on the roof at night. A great neighborhood and just the right length from the Centro to guarantee a good walk. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat. An incredible bargain. The rooftop was amazing and so romantic. It was our second visit to San Miguel and both times we're stayed in San Antonio neighborhood and loved it. We highly recommend this house! Positive experience in every way. We felt as if Lorne was a close friend of ours who thought of everything to make us feel comfortable and at home. They way he would like it to be, if he were the guest. Every aspect was as described or better. His manager Norma was a delight to talk to and prompt to return a phone call. Emma is meticulous in her work. If you are staying for a while and plan to cook, all the equipment you will need is in place. After you do your big food marketing, shop across the way for fill-ins. The owner is welcoming and patient with those of us who may have limited or no Spanish language abilities. And don't forget your ipod. We would gladly return next year if it were available.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+.

We have just returned from two glorious weeks in San Miguel de Allende. Our stay was made so enjoyable because of the luxury accomodation at Casa Fortuna. We felt like we were living in a Moorish Castle atop a hill, but with all the modernity of home. Relaxing on the rooftop patio with the 360 degree view of beautiful San Miguel listening to church bells took us to a serene meditative space where our only decision was on which piece of furniture to park ourselves.Did you find this review helpful? This spacious and beautifully decorated home was very clean and comfortable. The rooftop terrace is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the views of the city and surrounding areas. There are small grocers and good restaurants right outside the gates, and the town centre is just a short walk from the house. After each day of activities in San Miguel, we always looked forward to coming back to the comforts of the house. We have already started planning our return trip to Casa Fortuna!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2
