This historic landmark building was built in 1927 and originally known as Mendelson's Oakland Hotel. In the 1970's it was converted into two separate residences and the north half provides over 2200 square feet of sun soaked living space. There are four spacious bedrooms (two queen beds, one full bed and the fourth bedroom has two sets of bunk beds) with two completely remodeled full baths.
The Oakland North has been impeccably maintained and boasts all of the original architectural details of a bygone era including ten foot high ceilings, arched double hung windows with true divided lights, original oak hardwood flooring on the entire first floor, stain grade millwork trim throughout with operable transom vents above the second floor bedroom doors. The feeling of the home is truly unique and feels as if you are in a historic turn of the century beach house. The finishes, fixtures and furnishings all add to the overall casual relaxed feeling and remind you that you are 'away from it all'.

Why the Owner Chose South Haven
Historic Monroe Park is our neighborhood which is directly adjacent to the North Beach on South Haven's North Shore. The key to this location is there are no huge hills nor endless staircases to climb up and down when going to and from the beach. Kind of an important thing to remember with small children and grandparents who want to join you down at the waters edge.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We enjoy the easy access to the North Beach as well as the less than ten minute walk to downtown South Haven. Once the groceries are purchased, there is no need for your car again. Even if you do need something from the store, you can walk two blocks to North Side Memories which is a small, privately owned convenience store and deli. We have said it so many times but it is true... once you cross the draw bridge it feels as though all of life's struggles seem to be lifted. We hope you are able to experience the same feeling!
The North Beach is less than a one minute walk west down Avery Street. It is at the same elevation as the house with no huge hills nor endless staircases to walk up and down when going to and from th
North Side Memories is a small, privately owned convenience store located two blocks north. A convenient walk to get an extra bag of ice, a gallon of milk or an extra case of beer or bottle of wine.
There are swings and a basketball court in this park. Also a hill top gazebo with a beautiful view overlooking tha marina.
This is just a great place to walk. If possible, wake up early in the morning and stroll out to the end of the pier with a cup of coffee. Admire Mother Nature's work and look out at the horizon and

Spacious vacation home a block from the beach! The front has a patio and it was an excellent place to soak up the sun and enjoy the slow pace of South Haven. The yard and deck were great for relaxing. It was our family's first time to South Haven and the owners were helpful and had great recommendations for local restaurants. The house has a fully stocked kitchen with everything you need to cook a meal. The kids loved the house and the alcove shower - just their size. The bedrooms were roomy and the main shower was great, too. The home was comfortably furnished, with homey touches and many seating areas. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get away to the beaches of Lake Michigan.
