Gasparee Island is a small island in the archipelago between Trinidad and Venezuela known as the "Dragon's Mouth".
Findlay house, actually 2 houses side-by side, is located on Point Baleine, at the northern end of Gasparee. Accessible only by boat, the property is on the waterfront looking toward Trinidad, with spectacular snorkeling and swimming right out the front door. There is also a salt-water pool on the patio.
Several species of bird are native to the island and can be frequently seen from the house. The spectacular Gasparee caves are a short walk from the house, and guests have free access. The island, only about a mile in diameter, has several walking trails through the forest canopy. Point Baleine was once a tony hotel, later a whaling station and in the 40's was used as an army base for the British army. The "guns" a short walk from Findlay House, is a British Cannon perched at the top of the island with panoramic views.
The houses themselves are very simple, with no glass in the windows (sometimes birds fly right through!) and were once part of the military base. This is a unique place, with no cars and few neighbors, nestled between the jungle and the sea. The weather is always warm, with seasonal afternoon showers.
Nightlife, shopping, surfing beaches, zoos, Carnival, and museums can be found on nearby Trinidad.
