Was left disappointed...
Was left disappointed...
The biggest disappointment of my 3 night stay here was the missing screen door for the lanai. I was made aware that the previous renters had broken it which is why it was missing. I emailed the owner the day I checked in with the following: "My Mom and I are now enjoying your condo, found it with no problem at all. I'm simply wondering if the screen door might be replaced during our stay here?" Frustratingly, I never received a response. It was impossible to try to keep the unit comfortable with a cross breeze because leaving the sliding glass door open without the screen door would have let in countless unwanted bugs. Additionally two of the smaller windows inside had to stay closed due to a thick layer of dust, dirt, etc on the screens. You couldn't even see through the screens the muck was so thick. I was also deflated to constantly hear the resident's footsteps from above the unit. If you are on a tight budget, then stay here...but be willing to sacrifice some level of comfort.

Owner response: Thank you Melina. Feedback is always appreciated. Perhaps this was not the right fit for you and your mom. We offered a very nice place to stay at the very affordable rate of $89/n. At that price-point, given this is Hawaii, we offer an extremely good option for a beautifully furnished, golf course frontage condo with an amazing ocean view in a very small, low density complex. Comparably priced offerings in Hawaii are, as you infer 'budget accomodation', and thankfully for you, you didn't have the experience of true "budget accomodations" here. Your arrival 2 hours prior to check in may have thrown the housekeeper. I will follow up. Also, bear in mind we are at app 1,000' elevation and it is typically very comfortable for sleeping. Your stay was in August at the peak of summer when we were experiencing higher than normal temperatures. Warmest aloha. ali

Great location,: small village with a great market a couple of restaurants. The unit is on the golf ourse and has a lovely view across the greens to the distant ocean. Sunsets are wonderful to watch either from the lanai, or cozy bench in the tiny garden. There's a bird feeder near the unit and it's fun to watch the colorful Birds feed as you have your morning coffee. It is peaceful and serene and even though glass doors face the golf course, it felt very private. The unit is nicely furnished, comfy bed and bath, and kitchen nicely stocked. The only thing I'd change is add better lighting in the kitchen. Despite this one small flaw the place is great. I'd return in a heartbeat!

We went to big island purchase a vacation home and spent 5 nights at this condo at end of April. I just love this property, the view and surrounding is breath taking!! Every morning, I would feel like waking up in a paradise, stepping out the door to the thin cushioning grass, breathing moist fresh air, hearing the birds chirping, watching the wild turkeys closely, and seeking the ocean view beyond the golf course through the thin fog . This is the best ground level unit in the entire condo complex, it has nice landscape, a outdoor chair under the tree for you to rest, and an open lanai may you feel you can embrace the full green of the golf course. The unit has very tasteful design and furnishing, comfortable bed and a full functional kitchen. The location is very convenient, walking distance to golf club, swimming pool, grocery, shops and restaurants. And beaches are only few minutes drive, my favorite Mauna Kea beach ( with turquoise clear water and wonderful snorkel spots) is less than 10 minutes drive. In general, Waikoloa village is a wonderful town for vacationers on Big Island, since you have the convenience to drive everywhere easily (Hilo, Kona, Waimea, Kohala) and can still experience the authentic Hawaii feeling. We stayed at the same owner's Laughing Geoko Garden Sanctuary in 2010, it was also a very beautiful, sanctuary like Ohana, with elegant design. It made us love Waikoloa so much and we decide to purchase a vacation home here. Thank you Ali for making our each stay so enjoyable and help us realizing our dream of own a Hawaii home :) Mei

Owner response: Thank you for your kind words. You are most welcome! There are few things in life as rewarding as making people's dreams come true. You had a dream of owning your own home in Paradise and I am so happy I was able to be a part of making that dream come true! And I am equally honored that you trust my design skills to transform your Hawaii home into the "dream" dream home you have worked so hard to find. aloha. ali
Great value and location. This is a nice quiet and relaxing place to stay! A typical day for us started with coffee next to the golf course while watching the golfers and the birds. Then we would walk to the grocery store and get a doughnut! :) What a treat! Then it was off to the pool to lie in the sun before lunch. You get the picture...it is a little slice of heaven in paradise. Thanks for letting us stay here and for being so professional. We will be back!

Owner response: Goodness! now you have made me wish i was living in my own vacation spot that is available to everyone but me! it sounds like paradise!! But wait ... it is paradise ... and i did live there ... and i loved it too! I'm so glad you had a lovely stay. Aloha. ali
Great location, good price, conveniently located.
Great location, good price, conveniently located.
Tasteful furnishings and finishes, good quality bed and lots of pillows... Thank you!!! Well appointed kitchen, also thank you! Lighting a bit dim in the kitchen at night but just decided to with the cozy feeling of mood lighting. Great view, quiet neighbors, really appreciated the peace and tranquility. Though on the golf course not an issue, golfers only were on tee which was far enough away, and they weren't interested in anything beyond their game. My travel companion ended up being sick for the trip and slept on couch instead, which was comfortable. Would gladly stay here again and recommend to others. Small shopping complex with great grocery store, lovely cafe for coffee, breakfast and lunch, another small Mexican restaurant, mailing/office center, gas station and regular post office only 3 minutes away. Great beaches only 15 mintues away. Excellent all around. Other reviewers' complaints about parking and lighting seemingly a bit nit-picky. Parking stall is tight but manageable, and it is closest spot to condo, which is barely a 15 second walk away. Otherwise, street parking plentiful, and main paved and lighted path to condo is only 1 minute walk. No big deal. Was surprised that guests were expected to strip linens and leave them and towels on bed, especially in light of a cleaning charge, but I can also see how not having expectation that guests leave place tidy and ready for housekeeping to turn unit around in 3 hours could invite less respectful guests to leave the place a big mess that could take longer to clean up and prepare for the next guest. In light of reasonable rate and all the other positive factors, it was a tolerable expectation of a guest.

Owner response: Aloha Sonja, and thanks for your kind words. Our cleaning fee is well below most because we cover a portion. Cleaners are pressed for time, it's true, and asking guests to strip beds & bundle laundry is a normal practise for rentals. Most guests are mindful, but we do arrive to complete nighmares sometimes. It help greatly when guests are respectful. Sorry to hear you were unwell, but I can't think of a nicer spot to recouperate. ali

3 nights in Waikoloa
3 nights in Waikoloa
My girlfriend and I stayed in this condo for our last 3 nights on the Big Island in August 2012. Overall, it was a GREAT place, the views truly are spectacular, and it was sufficient for our needs. I must, however, admit there were a few MINOR surprises - 1) the wireless router was missing before we got there. I had a laptop, which was ok to connect to the modem via ethernet cable, but had I just taken my smartphone or tablet, I would have been without internet for our stay despite the listing stating that wireless was included. I e-mailed Ali as soon as I noticed (i.e. immediately when we got to the condo), and she responded...but that didn't fix my lack of wifi. 2) Other than a curtain to the bedroom, expect no privacy. There are some 'bamboo curtains' on the lanai, but they only go halfway down and are still nearly completely see-through...since you are right on the golf course, and since the Nene party outside your lanai (LOVE the Nene), people are constantly at your windows looking in. Not a problem for everyone, but made me a bit uncomfortable. 3) The kitchen is VERY well stocked...it truly had everything you could need to cook...except for any staple ingredients in which to actually cook - the fridge was literally empty of all things when we got there. For a 3 night stay, that meant we had to buy, and leave, a lot of stuff. Fortunately, someone else left us coffee filters :) 4) the parking space is DISMAL. The adjacent parking stall (neighbour's) had a covered, stored car that was parked dead-centre in his/her spot, yet there was hardly enough room to open the door of our convertible. More importantly, you have to back in, or you will never get your car out...there's an uneven curb beside the parking stall that is VERY hard to see at night. 5) We came at night and had a really tough time. The way (shortcut) to the condo is not lit at all - take the designated, longer path. Ali, the light on the lanai should be left on if whomever is checking in indicates in advance that they will be arriving at night as we did in the contract - we couldn't see anything. Despite those minor shortcomings, the view is unreal, the bed is very comfortable, having in-unit, free laundry was amazing, the place was clean, and we had a great time!!! We just wish we knew those 5 things before we booked.

Owner response: Aloha Noah, and thank you for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed your stay. re your 5 points - 1.) Wireless - we offer wireless. The prior guest did something with the router, so to ensure internet access housekeeping put in a cable as a temporary solution to provide connectivity for your laptop. A 3 hour change over is not enough time to prep and go to Kona to buy a router. Smart phones typically do not require a 3rd party connection, but if they do, there are several open networks in the complex. 2.) Privacy - between the blinds & drapes we feel privacy is adequate. All golf course frontage units are visible to golfers. Course closes 6PM - 6AM. 3.) Condiments/staples - these are not provided in your rental. It's a liability issue. Eg., a guest gets sick, they say from the ketchup that was 'provided' and a.) requesst a full refund, b.) write a negative review, or c.) sue for damages. It happens. We provide accomodation, not food. 4.) Parking - I have a full size Toyota truck and manage to park forwards in the parking space just fine. However, there is ample street parking just in front of the unit if you prefer. Parking is an ammenity controlled by the Association and not by Laughing Gecko. Off street, shaded parking is a bonus. 5.) After dark arrivals - Housekeeping does try to leave a light on for after dark arrrivals if the timegap is short, but there is also a (fire) risk in leaving electrics on in unattended spaces. Smart phones have flashlight aps (mine lights a whole room) which would seem safer. The walkway is lit. I have to say in over 10 years of rentals on this unit this is the 1st time any of these points have been brought up but I appreciate the feedback and always believe in improvments where possible. Here are my actions - 1.) Have Housekeeping keep a back up router in stock for emergencies. 2.) Privacy is not an issue in my opinion, but I plan to reconfigure the lanai and install shutters for 100% black out. 3.) Food - ensure neutral condiments - salt, pepper, sweetner are stocked (they typically are) 4.) Parking - recommend to the Association they repaint flourescent strips on parking curb. 5.) Provide a flashlight for after dark arrivals. Many thanks and kind regards, ali
Great value, amazing view and setting
Great value, amazing view and setting
We just got back to Chicago and wanted to let you know we had a great time in hawaii and your condo was just perfect for our needs. Great spot to sit and watch sunset, the view is just spectacular. We could see all the way up the kohala coast to Maui most days. Can't tell you the number of hours spent on the lanai, being entertained by the golfers at the 6th (?) tee. Actually we could watch the 3 tee spots from the lanai, womens, mens and pro. Loved being able to walk across the street to the clubhouse, we spent many happy hours there. Food was very good and affordable. Also convenient to have the driving range just across the street. We walked to the grocery store and coffee shop as well. Waikoloa is a wonderful town if you want to stay some place a bit more authentic and "real" hawaii wise. We spent a weekend down at the resorts before moving up to your condo and the cooler temperatures of your condo in the village were much better for us. 85-87 every day was perfect. Loved the decorating and the large flat screen tv. Kitchen had every thing we needed and more. We met your upstairs neighbors, the one who is a tennis pro at 4 seasons. We actually set up private tennis lessons with him one day at the courts right across the street. My wife was in heaven. I noticed the arm on one of your beach chairs sticks a bit when you put it in the recline position, might need some tweaking. Thanks again. We absolutely loved your place and will recommend it to all our friends and family. Great place for couples. See you next year. Hope you got my email request for our reservation for July 2013! Owner response: Hi Michael, thank you. The tennis courts were just redone and are great and did you use the mobile library right across the street by the courts. They have some really good books in case there is nothing in the collection in the condo that strikes your fancy. You cannot beat the two dollar tacos at happy hour at the restaurant at the clubhouse across the road can you. see you next year. ali

Why the Owner Chose Waikoloa Village:
In searching for a condo as a vacation rental my criteria included a superb location, outstanding ocean and mountain views, golf course frontage, established and beautiful landscaped common areas, privacy and quiet. A tall order, for sure, but I found the perfect unit in the perfect location, that met all my criteria, and then some! For a single person or a couple this is a delightfully charming getaway.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
This condo is located right on the golf course and just opposite the golf course club house, pool and tennis courts. As an end unit the condo is quiet and private. There is a small secluded garden out front with a teak bench just ideal for sitting out and enjoying the amazing views and watching the birds and golfers. I lived in this unit and loved every day. It is a very sweet spot, within easy walking distance of shopping and dining.
