Le Château Saint-Germain is an elegant and luxurious three-bedroom/three-bath apartment (or two-bedroom with separate studio) located in the very heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district of Paris with a view on the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and steps from the liveliest part of the quartier. Visitors to Paris who are lucky enough to make themselves at home here will be talking about their delightful stay for years to come and return as often as they can.
This gem will appeal to those looking for 3 separate bedrooms, each with it's own ensuite bathroom. The apartment can also be separated into a 2 bedroom unit plus a self contained studio. Each room is like a private hotel room with bathroom, full length mirror and blow dryer.
Located on the second floor (European, third floor American) of a 17th-century Hôtel Particulier (townhouse), the spacious rooms wrap around a central courtyard affording windows on all sides of the apartment with views of three streets and the courtyard. The apartment was renovated within the last few years and no detail was spared. Upon entering the foyer, you may choose to turn left to enter the open living room/dining room/kitchen, positioned on two living levels, adorned by columns, an 18th century stone fireplace, tall windows and a state-of-the-art contemporary kitchen. Furnishings are antique and elegant, but inviting, friendly and comfortable.
The all encompassing and spacious central core of the apartment is where everyone will want to be -- equipped with a large flat-screen TV, DVD player, high-speed Internet with Wi-Fi, IPOD dock (that can also be connected to your computer), fireplace and open kitchen where a full buffet can be served from the long butcher-block island. It's a perfect venue for entertaining and relaxing after a long day of sightseeing in the City of Light.
At one end of the dining room which comfortably seats eight, an original painted portrait of the "lady of the manor" by American artist in Paris Kathy Burke, hangs in honor of the owner with an amused eye on her happy guests. From the portrait, to the left down the stone-walled corridor, you will find a luxurious suite with twin beds which convert to one king-sized bed, a shower, toilet, deep open bathtub with hand-held shower, heated towel rack and vanity with sink. Its windows overlook the courtyard for full calm and privacy.
On the opposite corner of the living room, an original 17th-century door leads you to the suite whose hand-carved woodwork and curved wall was discovered during the complete renovation of the apartment. From the windows on both sides of the room, you have a perfect view of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and all down rue de l'Abbaye. Light pours in these windows onto the golden tones of the boudoir's decor of antique furnishings and Provençal fabrics. A contemporary shower with toilet and heated towel rack is adjacent and an additional antique sink/vanity accents the feminine room.
From the foyer, if you turn right from the main entrance, you find a laundry room with washer/dryer and further down the hall, the third bedroom suite. This part of the apartment can be an independent studio with an entrance direct to the main stairwell of the building. It has a full bathroom adjacent to it which is also accessible from the foyer with a shower, toilet, antique wash basin and large window overlooking the side street of rue de l'Echaudé. This is a perfect spot for a couple or kids who want their own TV and entertainment center and separate entrance. The Queen bed can be separated into 2 twins.
Le Château Saint-Germain affords an authentic spirit of the City of Paris and of this particular spot on the Left Bank, where history is oozing from its cobblestoned narrow ancient streets. You will revel in every minute of your stay in such a beautiful and elegant "home-away-from home."
The Area Around Saint-Germain-de-Prés
Saint-Germain-des-Prés is the city's most sought-after district by North American visitors. Centered around the church of the former Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, it is home to a number of famous cafés, such as Les Deux Magots, Brasserie Lipp and Café de Flore and was the center of the existentialist movement, associated with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. From this part of the 6th arrondissement, most of Paris' most important sights are within walking distance.
Le Château Saint-Germain overlooks the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, which at one time was just beyond the outskirts of early medieval Paris, and was the burial place of Merovingian kings of Nutria. The 37-meter long rue de Bourbon-le-Château, has been in Paris since 1610, when it was opened as a short-cut between the Porte Buci and the entry door of the Abbey in the rue de l'Echaudé. Rues de Buci and Seine, just steps away are two of the district's primary market and gathering places, with cafés, restaurants, shops and fresh food markets in abundance.
Designer shops are within steps of the apartment -- Louis Vuitton, Dior, Armani and Sonya Rykiel are at home here, to name just a few. Many of the city's finest art galleries line the nearby Left Bank streets. Just one block from the apartment is an olympic-size indoor public swimming pool (at 12, rue Lobineau) and you are just two blocks from the River Seine to easily cross to the Right Bank.
The district is every visitor's dream -- with everything you could ever need or desire within reach...the city of Paris and all its best entertainment at your doorstep.

Le Château Saint-Germain - Location, Luxury, Stunning!
Why the Owner Chose Paris Arrondissement 6
I fell in love with the wonderful location of this apartment years before owning there. Apartments for sale are rare in this area so when one became available I had to see it. It had been stripped of all its charm by the previous owners and neglected but the bones were incredible... Huge windows on three sides..open airy feel..High ceilings.... spectacular view of Abbey. Location Location Location... Near les Deux Magots cafe, Lipp, Cafe Flore and the new Costes restaurant... Dior, Armani... and a cornucopia of small reasonable boutiques ea with their own unique style..
Paradise...
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
It is in the hippest area of Paris, with all the action of the rue de Buci around the corner but quiet since it is on a no traffic little well lit side street. An famous cafe on the corner.. the Chai l'Abbey... the perfect place for your breakfast or afternoon drink.
The best wine store in Paris at your feet. A fabulous spa across the street...One of the more famous friperies (high end gently used clothing) at your door... where you can find that Hermes bag or amazing designer coat and be sooo French. You are near the Siene river, near the Pont Neuf, the Musee d'Orsey, the Louvre, The Rodin museum. The Bon Marche department store.... total luxury. A visit to their epicurean center a must.
Many famous cafes that Hemingway frequented: Flore, Lipp and Les Deux Magot. Not far from Shakespeare and Co... English bookstore that still looks like it did just post war...Was modelled after Sylvia Beaches original store that Hemingway, Fitzgerald and James Joyce frequented in their Paris days... It is walking distance to most things of importance.. Notra Dame Cathedral... The list goes on and on.. an indoor public pool a block away... fresh fruit markets.. Two Metro stations St. Germain and Mabillion. You can get on at the St. Germain stop and go directly to Clignoncourt antique markets like Paul Bert. There is a taxi stand a few steps from the door with a constant flow of taxis..rare in Paris.. The area is safe and well lit.

As three couples, we enjoyed a wonderful 8 days stay in this apartment. The layout allowed us plenty of room to move about, the decor was delightful, the kitchen well equipped and washer/dryer very convenient and easy to use. The distict really is every visitors dream. Everything we needed to self-cater was no more than one or two streets away - Carrefour, boulangeries, patisseries, charcuteries, chocolate shops, corner cafes, bars and restaurants. We became regular visitors to the wine store downstairs - La Derniere Goutte and loved coming home every evening to our neighbourhood to relax after a busy day of sightseeing. We would return in a heartbeat.

Annalee: Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful apartment. You were so wonderful to work with as was Frank upon our arrival. My family and I loved the apartment from the moment we walked in. You made everything so easy- hair dryers, iron, washer, dryer, etc. I have been to Paris a number of times but could not imagine coming back and not staying at your apartment again. It is in a perfect location to move around Paris with wonderful shops, restaurants and convenient grocery stores. Thank you so much for making this such a wonderful experience for myself and my family.

We travelled in March 2010 and were overwhelmed by the beauty and charm of this apartment. It was like having our own little Chateau Versailles! The location was fantastic, and to be greeted upon arrival in person and with fresh daffodils throughout! Our family of four (parents with two teenage daughters) and a sister/brother in law comprised the six guests and the space was perfectly accomodating to our party.

Our kids were jumping for joy when we first walked into the apartment. We loved the location, how nice everything was inside and how spacious it was for our family of 5. We walked and took the Metro everywhere and felt perfectly safe returning at nights. Thank you for sharing your amazing place. Our kids ages 13, 11 and 8, really got to experience Paris and loved it.
