This 4 bedroom/4 bath home, which was leased by Abercrombie and Kent Destination Club previously, has a master bedroom on each floor and was decorated by one of Charleston's finest home designers with families in mind. The home is located in the Vanderhorst Plantation section of Kiawah on a quiet cul-de-sac. It is an open floor plan. The pool is gated for safety and there is pool lighting for nighttime swimming. The kitchen is well stocked for all of your cooking needs, especially during the holidays.
There is a small gameroom on the second floor with foosball and airhockey. A 48' plasma TV hangs above the fireplace for great entertainment. Sliding glass doors from the family room lead to a large screened in porch with 3 fans, overlooking the pool with plenty of seating. There is no dvd player in the family room but it has cable. All bedrooms have televisions and dvd players.

This is our fourth stay on the island and we will never stay anywhere else again! As a decorator, I am picky about my surroundings and this far exceeded my hopes. It is casual, yet elegant and I wouldn't change a thing. The pool and the game room were huge hits with my kids. We didn't even feel the need to go out to dinner because it was a FULLY stocked kitchen with top of the line everything even down to the williams sonoma plates. It is private yet in the middle of everything. Gail was like a host or concierge, answering any questions we had, making suggestions and even helping us during our stay. I can not say enough good about this home! I even debated writing this because I want to keep it to myself and not have to worry about other renters taking our vacation spot! You will not be dissapointed.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

This estate home has all the bells and whistles for a very private luxury vacation. It is located at the end of a very private cul de sac surrounded by woods with reasonable distance from neighbors to insure privacy. We loved the pool in backyard and the large screened in porch. The interior is decked out exactly as stated in the posting. We loved the first floor master with large master bath and closet space. This home is great for families or a group of men or women on a golf or tennis getaway. We really enjoyed renting bikes to get around including riding on the expansive beaches. When we return to Kiawah, we want to stay here again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

Everything about this home was outstanding. The home is as beautiful and immaculate as depicted in the pictures. There was a problem with the alarm which was addressed immediately and corrected as soon as it was possible creating the only minor inconvenience we experienced during our stay. I would have wished for more access to A/V equipment in family room but our portable DVD player connected easily to the TV there allowing our family to watch DVDs together. The beach is a short drive or bicycle ride away. We would love to stay in this home again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Your feedback regarding the DVD player is a very good one. Because the TV sits above the mantle, I always worried about a player falling off. However, I think it would be nice to have a portable one that hooks into the TV should a guest like to use it. Thanks!!!

This was our 16th Thanksgiving on Kiawah Island and my extended family and I rent 2-3 houses each year, so we've been in a number of rental homes on the island. This is by far my best experience AND the best home we have rented in all our time. Gail (the owner) was such a delight to work with and was so attentive to our needs. The home was great with the living area centrally located and the bedrooms offering so much privacy. We hosted one of the big family meals and had brunch for 16 the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The kitchen got a great workout and I did not want for any kitchen utensil or bowl or pot. The screened-in back porch was so peaceful and the weather was very moderate for most of the week. This home sits at the end of a cul-de-sac and is VERY private. Wildlife walks through the yard every day (we saw 2 bucks every day) and I have to admit that what I think was a red-tailed hawk screaming one night was a spine-chilling experience!) Gail, thank you so much for allowing us to make your home OUR home for a week. Your home is beautifully decorated and cozy and comfortable. I even loved the river rock shower floor (I didn't think I would like that, but it felt so good on my feet!) and even got to relax in the jacuzzi tub! My husband and I and the rest of our family got some much needed rest and relaxation.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Katharine, Thank you for your kind words. I am glad we were able to help bring your family together on Thanksgiving for a nice time.

Anyone rating this property or property owner less than 5 stars is CRAZY! The pictures don't do this home justice. The culdesac location offers loads of privacy, and the pool is surrounded by trees. The home has all the finishing touches you could possibly want. Gail, the home owner, could not have been more responsive...it was as if she was sitting by her email waiting to respond to me -- before vacation all the way through our stay. She provided lots of tips and brochures (via email and mail) about places to go and see. The kitchen (and grill) was very well stocked. TVs in every room. Lots of pool toys for the kids as well as beach chairs. Two fabulous master suites, one with a dream bathroom. Our entire family was impressed. My husband and I have been to Kiawah numerous times, and we would both recommend this home and this home owner to anyone with discriminating tastes. Thanks, Gail! We love Kiawah (and your home)!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful words about our home. I am so happy that we were able to help you and your family have an enjoyable vacation!!

We really enjoyed our stay on Kiawah, and this house is beautiful. It is professionally decorated and looks like it does in the pictures. It is very private and on a cul-de-sac. It is nice having a pool when you don't feel like going to the beach. The pool is in the shade most of the day, which is probably great in the summer, but made it a little cool when we were there in May. It is a 5-10 min bike ride to the beach. It would be difficult to walk to the beach from the house if you're carrying the typical chairs and cooler, but there are a few places to park near the beach. I did have some issues with the property. The spa tub was broken, and the owner would not fix it, blaming it on previous guests. There is no DVD player in the living room, the only place that allows for the whole family to gather to watch anything. All of the AV equipment was locked up. There were no cushions on the wicker porch furniture and it made it uncomfortable to sit on. The owner said she had ordered new ones, but they were never delivered during our stay. The kitchen has a lot of stuff in it, but it is missing basic items like mixing bowls, liquid measuring cups, and a clean can opener. There were ants all over the pool patio... we all got bitten by at least one of them! Even my sister, sitting on a ledge in the pool leaning up against the pool wall, had ants crawling on her. The owner said we must have left food by the pool, but we did not. Be careful about complaining about anything to her, because she just gets defensive. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay, and Kiawah is wonderful.Owner response: Pool is shaded late afternoon in high season, in May early afternoon. The jets on the tub were not working during guest's stay. I was unable to get someone out to Island to fix as it was a holiday weekend. There is no DVD player in family room because the tv sits above the mantle and we were nervous about it falling off, so our listing only mentions the DVD players in each bedroom. The only AV equipment in closet that is not available to guests is the stereo because we found that one needs a PHD to use it and we no longer use it ourselves because one wrong button, and even the tv goes off. When the wicker furniture for the patio was purchased, it did not come with cushions and we purchased the set with the rubber coating so that we didn't need cushions. However, in 2006 we had our designer make cushions for the lounge seating and we replace it every other season. They came in during this guest's stay, but we felt we would be inconveniencing them more by having the cushions delivered. We have a contract for pest control which includes ants. It truly takes nothing for the pest company to come and spray, especially because they are on the Island most days.I wished I would have known during the guest's stay. I just don't know what happened to the liquid measuring cup. There were 2 sets of dry measuring cups, and we have always gotten such wonderful feedback from our guests that have cooked at the home, but yes, the liquid cup was gone. Because it was early in the season, I did fly down to do my own inventory check. There were 2 can openers and I threw out the dirty one. I purchased a couple of liquid measuring cups. We find that guests love to grille, and we always have 2 commercial sets of grilling utensils. We also make sure that we always have dining items for outside and a full set of 12 of dinnerware. During my stay, I made certain that no items were missing so that guests will not be inconvenienced. As of April all decorative and bed pillows are new, along with all linens. Home is pristine and pictures shown are as of 6/6/2011. I do not feel that I am just an owner renting a home. I will help my guests to have the most enjoyable vacation possible. I am accessible at all times whether for a question or issue that may arise in the home, dinner/activities recommendations, or side trips, and my cell phone is next to my side 24 hours a day when a guest is staying in the home.

What a beautiful house! We could not have made a better selection for our stay at Kiawah Island. My son was getting married on the beach and the house was excellent for all of the groomsmen. Sleeping arrrangements were very comfortable. The house has a very open floor plan with a kitchen that was "to die for". We would definitely rent this property again. The owner was also a delight to deal with.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely, well appointed home. The house is beautifully furnished, well stocked with all the kitchen equipment you could ever need, and the beds are extremely comfortable. Our kids enjoyed the game room when we weren't in the pool, at the beach, or bike riding, and the house easily accommodated our family of 7. Gail was very responsive and great to work with for getting our rental set up. Overall, we really enjoyed this trip.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had the pleasure of staying in this very lovely home during Easter vacation with our five children. We felt at home from the moment we entered the premises and were very comfortable during our stay on Kiawah Island. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the game room, pool and television in every room. All of the amenities offered on Kiawah Island are only a short drive away as well. Golf, beach, dining and more is all right there. A bonus for our children was for them to see their cousin who attends the nearby College of Charleston. Should Kiawah Island come up in future vacation plans, and we certainly hope it does, we certainly know a place to return to for our stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Our home was completed in 2005. The home was designed with the safety of our four children in mind but it also needed to appeal to the clientele of Abercrombie and Kent,a premiere high end destination Club. We leased the home to the Club for two years.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We had searched for years for a place that we could enjoy as a family. We wanted a place that offered much more than just a beach. Our family enjoys all that the Island has to offer including it natural beauty and wildlife. We enjoy boating and fishing and the well thought out bike paths on the Island. Not to be forgotten is Freshfields that leaves plenty to do on a rainy day.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The home is truly wonderful for 2 families because there is a master bedroom on each floor with another bedroom on each floor. Also, when we built the pool, we built it with safety in mind. Upon exiting the back porch, there is a staircase. At the first landing of the stairs, there is a gate with a lock. We have heard from many of our guests that the safety of the pool was very important for them. So oftentimes, the pools in Kiawah are level with the homes and ungated from the home. We truly wanted safety, above all else, to drive how our home and the pool were built.
