Disappointed with our stay......
Disappointed with our stay......
We rented the Luxurious Ocean-Front Cottage April 29 - 30 (2 nights). Our goal was to venture away from the typical tourist/hotel scene. On the website, the Cottage looks quaint and cozy and the kitchen looks like a chef's dream. We were so excited to check in, hit the grocery store and spend a few comfortable nights at the Cottage. First of all, to the owner's credit, I must say that the house is beautiful. The decor, furniture and cottage feel is awesome. However..... Disappointment began when we noticed how close the house was to the highway. It can't be more than 20 feet from the road. Constant noise from cars, trucks and motorcycles is impossible to ignore. The simple solution to that problem would be to close the windows right???......well that's when we notice that the house does NOT have air conditioning. We remained optimistic and ventured to town in search of a grocery store. There are two grocery stores that carry the essentials but I must say that the meat selection was pretty weak. Unable to find some good steaks to grill, we decided to grab a bite at the local restaurant (the only real one that we found). We ate at Wranglers Steak House. I'd say that it's on par with Ponderosa - fair at best. The town is not a place that I would suggest walking around after dark. It felt a bit 'shady'. This is not a sightseeing town. We returned back to the cottage around 10p. It was very dark. Unable to close the windows when we left, I did a full sweep of the house. I checked the closets, under beds etc to make sure nobody was in the house. The location is extremely remote and we were concerned about our security. Neither one of us slept well that night. We were hot and clammy, felt vulnerable and very unsafe. The following morning we left the property for the Marriott. There was no way were we going spend another day/night here. We notified the home owners of our departure and requested some sort of monetary refund. They kept our money for the 2nd night but offered to refund our deposit. As of June 17th, nothing. We traveled from Ohio and were not going to let this ruin our vacation. I don't believe that the owners have misrepresented the property, (with exception that those nice white chairs facing the ocean were not there) they just left out some very important details. We in no way are vindictive people. We just want potential renters to know about our experience.
