Love it!

Guest: Katie (Chicago)
Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 11/27/11

We went to Charleston for Thanksgiving this year and stayed at the Carriage House. It was very comfortable, bedrooms were good size and walking distance to everything. We cooked Thanksgiving Dinner (bought a cooked turkey) and it worked out great- well equipped and 7 of us ate dinner in the house. Kira and Dewey were very helpful and we would highly recommend renting this property!

A perfect place to stay

Guest: Katherine S.
Date of Stay: 11/06/11 Review Submitted: 11/24/11

We travel with another couple and our small dogs. This was the perfect place for us. It was convenient to everything, beautifully appointed, and so comfortable. The renovation pictures are amazing. With 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, there was plenty of room and privacy, too. The kitchen is gorgeous and had everything one could possibly need. Our dogs loved the fenced yard and the owner's dog, too. I highly recommend this unit.

Charming Cottage!

Guest: NanMag (Walled Lake, MI)
Date of Stay: 10/14/11 Review Submitted: 10/31/11

My daughter and I loved our stay in the cottage house! From the minute we walked in, we could tell how well cared for it was. It was clean, comfortable and charming. The location was perfect for walking to downtown Charleston, which we did every evening for dinner, sightseeing, and shopping. I would definitely recommend the cottage house to anyone looking for a great place to stay while visiting Charleston. Kira & Dewey were fantastic to work with---we definitely hope to stay again soon!

Absolutely Perfect!

Guest: MNMom (Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 10/08/11 Review Submitted: 10/13/11

My husband and I recently stayed here for our 25th anniversary trip. It was absolutely lovely, I can't think of anything that wasn't already thought of. The house is impeccably clean and well decorated and it was wonderful to come home to after a long day's walking around town. The photos are completely accurate (it actually looks even better than the photos). The kitchen is well appointed, lacking for nothing (although we didn't cook). The neighborhood is quiet and close to some great restaurants and the museum. Parking was not a problem, although we didn't need to drive often. It really felt like a home, not a hotel. Absolutely feel confident in making this your choice.

Great Wedding Weekend

Guest: Machele Harrison_HAC50913 (Pickens, SC)
Date of Stay: 09/08/11 Review Submitted: 10/11/11

We rented this cottage to have room to spread out over the weekend for our daughter's wedding. Instead of us trying to get 4 people ready in a hotel room with a hairstylist and photographer, we had more than enough room to spread out. We were able to park right at the door thanks to off street parking (and in Charleston....what a HUGE plus). We had a great time the first night with our daughter and new son-in-law just hanging out and playing scrabble and the second night was spent with our girls...kind of a last hurrah before we added a son. The kitchen was gorgeous with beautiful countertops and very nice appliances. Having 2 bathrooms was a lifesaver the morning of the wedding. The location was ideal, just a few minutes by car to anywhere we wanted to go and close enough to walk when we needed the exercise. The photo album of the construction history of the lovely main house and cottage are a must see when you stay. It is very apparent a lot of time, effort, caring and talent went into the remodel of this truly "Charleston" home. You absolutely can not go wrong staying here. It was a wonderful place that just added to the fond memories we have of the weekend our daughter got married. We will most definately be back and who knows...in a few years may even bring our grandchildren with us.

No other place would rather stay - an absolute Charleston experience in everyway - Great hosts

Guest: H & C Izquierdo (Atlanta, GA)
Date of Stay: 09/01/11 Review Submitted: 09/07/11

Being a 1998 graduate of the College of Charleston and now living in Atlanta, GA, the return to Charleston is something we always greatly anticipate. This carriage/cottage is the perfect home away from home. The listing photos do not do the cottage any justice. Great attention to detail in every way is very evident in every room. Despite the brand new construction, the old charm is present. The master bath has a double shower head unrivaled by any other hotel or place we have stayed at. The full kitchen allows for eating in or staying for many many days. Kira & Dewey include every amenity you can think of. They are also very open to making any recomendation you may seek for restuarants, attractions, etc.... The location is right off Meeting and you can walk anywhere in downtown. It is a quick two block walk to King Street, to many great bars, shops and restaurants. If you need to head to the Battery they provide bikes or you can find a rickshaw taxi or regular cab in just minutes. Whether you travel with another couple, children or a small dog, this place is the one and only spot we will stay from here on out in Charleston. I highly recommend anyone to stay here.

Perfect Place to Stay in Charleston

Guest: Dana (Westchester, New York )
Date of Stay: 08/13/11 Review Submitted: 09/13/11

The carriage house appeared exactly as pictured on this site. It comes with everything you need and is in the center of it all. We were able to enjoy the local sites downtown, tour nearby plantations, and take in Folly Beach. Every meal was great- whether we cooked in the kitchen or stopped by a local place. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. The cottage beats any hotel. We would definitely return again. Thanks Kira and Dewey! -Dana and Brian

Staying at Charleston Carriage House

Guest: Rider (Chicago, IL)
Date of Stay: 07/29/11 Review Submitted: 09/07/11

Four of stayed at the house and were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. The house was clean and well maintained and the off street parking was great to have. The Owner's were available to answer questions and were friendly without being obtrusive. The location was easily walkable to Market Street but not located in a noisy or high traffic area. The only negative is that, if you need access to wireless internet, there is only one spot in the house where it's available, a small desk in the front bedroom. I would definitely recommend this property for your stay.

My family of 4 (me, my husband and two children) could not have asked for a better location for our visit to Charleston. The cottage was clean, roomy and private. The pictures of the cottage truly reflect how the rooms look. The appliances are top of the line and the kitchen is amazing. The owners, Kira and Dewey, were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was in a perfect location for all of our adventures. We walked almost everywhere. Be sure to take tthe advice of the owners of where to eat. We loved Coast. (Although it is not on the list, for a burger you can't beat Five Guys.)

Date of Stay: 07/02/11 Review Submitted: 07/14/11

We've used VRBO many times and have been fooled a couple times by the photos and descriptions, but not in this case. The cottage description and pictures were very accurate. The cottage was very clean and extremely comfortable, and in a great location for exploring Charleston. It was close enough to everything if you like to walk, and only a block away from the Visitors Center where free trolleys are available. Our two early 20's daughters had nightlife within safe walking distance. Kira and Dewey did a fantastic job renovating the cottage. We would definitely stay here again.

Super location and ambiance

Guest: Rene Q. (Carmel, Indiana)
Date of Stay: 06/06/11 Review Submitted: 07/01/11

You can tell that the owners originally renovated their carriage house for visiting family and friends because all of the appliances, plumbing fixtures, etc., are top quality. Everything sparkles. The location is PERFECT, so much better than one of the popular hotels that had been recommended to us. The carriage house is ideal for two couples--lots of privacy and space, SO much better than two hotel rooms would have been. The Visitors' Center (discount tickets available for carriage rides and plantations) is just down the street. Be sure to follow Kira's restaurant list--we loved all three that we had time to try and would love to go back to Charleston to try more! Don't miss Coast and Pan e Vino. Several locals recommended touring Aiken-Rhett House across the street, but we like "pretty" and didn't enjoy the dilapidated condition, although history buffs would probably appreciated it more than we did. You really can't go wrong with the carriage house. We traveled with "the grandmas," and everyone loved the accommodations.

Everything about the cottage was excellent. Loved visiting Fort Sumter, the concerts we attended at Spoleto, the City of Charleston, the restaurants recommended by our landlord. Yes, we would recommend it to friends (already have). The only restaurant we did not care for (AND NOT RECOMMENDED to TO US--we stumbled upon it) was Hyman's. Too pushy, too touristy.

Great carriage house with a nice neighborhood location--close to everything

Guest: Anonymous
Date of Stay: 04/26/11 Review Submitted: 05/12/11

This carriage house in a historic neighborhood provides the Charleston visitor with a great base of operations. Recently renovated throughout, it offers 2 good-sized bedrooms, with a nice porch off the master bedroom. Bathrooms are totally modern. The kitchen is more than adequate for even the serious cook. The living room is comfortable, with a flat screen TV (but no DVD). If you wish to dine outdoors, the patio is adequate, with a gas grill for simple meal requirements. The location is great. Walking distance to many great eating and shopping experiences along King and Meeting Streets. Highly recommend Basil's for Thai food, which happens to be about the closest place as well. The Charleston Visitor Center is just down the block, and it's a great place to begin your visit to town. If you wish to avoid driving all over town, several free bus routes with stops at key attractions leave from the Visitor Center. The hosts live in the home in front of the carriage house. They are ready to provide for all your requests. We would recommend it for anyone who wants a place close to attractions, with modern facilities to make you comfortable when you get back from a day of sight-seeing.

We found Kira and Dewey's cottage to be extremely nice and conveniently located to downtown shopping and dining. You will not need to use your car unless you're headed to the Battery area. Having previously lived in Charleston, the offf street parking that is provided plus a security gate is a true luxury in downtown Charleston. The cottage is extremely clean and well-appointed and our two miniature schnauzers enjoyed the gated courtyard. Kira and Dewey were available for questions and immediate needs. We hope to return at some point in the future.

Your home made our stay so special!

Guest: Amira and John (Washington DC)
Date of Stay: 03/22/11 Review Submitted: 04/14/11

We were delighted to arrive at Kira's place and find it even better than the description and pics portrayed! It is an oasis after touring the city, with all amenities provided. We enjoyed using the grill, dining outside at the large table with plenty of space for us all. The bedrooms are spacious and bright. The location is ideal - literally a block from the visitors center and two blocks from King st. Only downfall, and not a big one was that we had just one tv and we were traveling with one teenager! A second tv in one of the bedrooms would allow more options, but then again, it's a good opportunity to not watch tv! Wi-fi is only accessible from the front bedroom, which was a wee bit inconvenient. We would definitely recommend a stay here and hope to come back ourselves sometime soon!

I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful stay we had down in Charleston in early March. The bottle of wine was a perfect touch as we entered the cottage. Thank you so much for that. Your place is perfect for relaxing at night after busy days of sightseeing in your beautiful city. The accomodations were perfect for Jeff and I along with my mom. We certainly enjoyed many of your suggestions for restaurants, sites to see and just places to walk. Your friendliness made us right at home. Thank you again for your hospitality. p.s. we've told our friends and family about this wonderful experience!

My husband and I stayed with his parents for three nights in September 2010. The accommodations were wonderful and very comfortable for both of us couples. We each had our own bedroom and bathroom so we had plenty of privacy. The kitchen was well stocked and the grill outside was a nice touch. We had breakfast every day in the house and grilled out a few times. It was nice after a long day of walking and touring Charleston to come back to the carriage house and relax. We would highly recommend this property to anyone!!

Wow! What an amazing transformation. I saw this historic property prior to its two year renovation and historic restoration. The owners didn't miss a trick. From the vaulted ceiling in the living area which makes the space so light and airy to the added convenience of laundry facilities, the comfortable furnishings, fabulous kitchen and beautiful bathrooms, and spacious welcoming bedrooms. It is simply outstanding. The location is perfect and after a day of exploring the wonders of Charleston how nice to come home to the lovely garden patio or the rockers on the porch with a glass of wine. It's simply the best at a bargain rate! Kudos to our wonderful host and hostess.

My husband and I loved our stay in Charleston, due in very large part to Kira and Dewey and their beautifully finished, private, spacious, extremely well appointed cottage. The location of the cottage is excellent, with very easy access to a fun (and easy to use) shuttle system that takes you all over town. (No need for a car, unless you want to explore outside the city.) Kira hit the nail on the head with her restaurant recommendations to us. We'll be back, and we wouldn't think to stay anywhere else.

Restored and beautifully modern! We enjoyed being able to walk to the Historic District and markets and be able to come "home" for breaks. Our English cousins enjoyed their stay also. And the little things were such a delight, like the fresh flowers, extra pillows, and small amounts of sugar, salt and pepper, provided in the kitchen. We would gladly do this again.

This is a wonderful spot, a true oasis in downtown Charleston that is close to, but not in the chaotic center of, every place you would want to be. Kira and Dewey, the charming couple who own the place, and who are attentive but never intrusive, have done a wonderful restoration. When you're not out and about you'll enjoy being at home. The way it's set up, you and your pet (if you bring one like I did) will have plenty of privacy. I was kind of worried about parking at first, not quite believing that off-street parking was as easy as it was cracked up to be, but they were right and I was wrong. It couldn't have been easier or more available. And if you're a total anal retentive, K&D don't mind you parking in their driveway, if you don't mind hassling with the gate. Bottom line: Next time I go to Charleston this will be the first place I try to book. Even more telling, when I move to Charleston, as I plan to do, I will count Kira and Dewey among my friends.

The Carriage House is located within walking distance of the Historic Urban Plantation of Charleston, as well as the best shopping and restaurants, Once we settled into the clean, comfortable two bedrooms we were able to explore the city of Charleston. One of my favorite walks is down to the Battery to see Rainbow Row. On the way back you could stop fore a latte or look for antiques. The hosts who own the Carriage House are most helpful in suggesting an excellent restaurant for dinner or you could use the barbeque in the yard to cook in. All in all we LOVED this vacation rental. It is clean, comfortable and exceptionally well located.

The carriage house is roomy, light and airy, and as comfortable as home. Great shower! The notebook full of restaurant menus and the local grocery discount card were a nice touch and much appreciated. The location is perfect .... easy access to shops, restaurants, historic churches, and the beaches. The live oaks lining Ann Street make for a beautiful vacation spot in the middle of the city. I highly recommended it for anyone visiting Charleston.

I recently spent 3 nights in the fantastic Ann Street cottage. There were three of us and we were more than comfortable in the cheerful cottage. We walked downtown every morning & it was an easy stroll. In the evening we would usually take an inexpensive rickshaw ride (wrong shoes to walk in). We also hit the beach in the afternoon (which was only about a 20 minute car ride away). I highly reccommend the Ann Street Cottage & hope to stay there again in the future.

This is the great home away from home we have been seeking for our trips to Charleston with our furry family members! Very convenient location. Walk to all downtown restaurants and shops. Spacious bedrooms provide enough room for the family to have their own space. 10 minute drive to beaches. Kira, Dewey & Bentley are just great! They are very accommodating and able to provide insights to activities and restaurants. We cannot wait for our next stay in this fabulous place!

Classy & charming! This house is perfect for family or friends, but plenty of room for privacy. Convenient to King and Market Street, where you can visit restaurants, shops, parks and the ambience of downtown Charleston. Yet, quite and confined for relaxing and enjoying the simple life. The Shower in the Master Bathroom....is ohhh so heavenly!

Loved, loved, loved it. GREAT location -- super close to fantastic restaurants, shopping, museums, historical sites uptown and walking distance to sights further downtown. Beautiful, comfortable almost luxurious accommodations, perfectly pet friendly, gracious hosts, off street parking -- this place has it all.
