Location: Cannon Beach, Northern Coast, Oregon, USA (75 Miles from Portland, Oregon)

Accommodations:  House, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)

The Bonnie Nook is a very charming historic landmark. It was the 8th house built in Cannon Beach in 1908. It is furnished with turn of the century American antiques. The oak library table in the living room is original to the house. There are two small bedrooms downstairs, one with a antique double 1850's bed and matching dresser, and the other with two twin beds and antique armoire.

Upstairs is a very large room with one queen bed and two twins. There is a bathroom upstairs and one on the main floor. The spacious living room has a stone fireplace that houses a woodstove. We have wood that you can use.

There is an armoire that has surround sound TV and VCR, DVD, stereo with cassette and CD. There is a closet that has lots of games. The large country kitchen is fully equipped and has an antique harvest table that seats 10.

The backyard has a large deck with two benches. It is very quiet and private and great for sunbathing and outdoor eating. We recently added a fire pit for marshmellow roasting and just sitting around the fire at night.

Once you are there, you do not have to drive anywhere (except home if you can bear to leave). The beach is 1.5 blocks, 3 blocks to town (or the village as some call it) and 2 blocks to midtown.

We have had the house for 18 years. One family has been coming for 17 years and says, "we are so thankful for your sweet place that has brought our entire family so much joy every summer". Other comments include, "we feel so at home here" and "this is the best bargain in Cannon Beach".

Again, we have a no smoking, no pet and no small children policy. Guests also bring their own linens: sheets, towels and dish towels. If this is not possible, other arrangements can be made.

For you bargain hunters, please note any last minute "specials" listed under RATES.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1991

We live in Portland, Oregon and are both semi-retired. We love to travel, read, spend time with each other, family and friends. We have been married for 40 years, have one married daughter who lives in Bellingham, Washington. She is a award winning wedding photographe. We are proud grandparents to 3 year old Daphne and Fiona Rue who is coming in May.

Why the Owner Chose Cannon Beach

In 1989 we drove through Cannon Beach and it was love at first sight. We noticed that there were no antique stores there and since Margie had a shop in Portland, we decided to open a shop in Cannon Beach. So if you are going to have a shop in CB, it might be nice to have a place to sleep at night. So began our search for a house. When we saw this cottage, we knew it had to be ours. It was sitting on the ground without a foundation, had no heat inside but it had the character and history that we loved. Gary jacked up the house, put in a furnace, new wiring and the list goes on. The history of the cottage is posted inside the house with some original photos. It is also featured in a book called "Cannon Beach Cottages" by Jill Grady. We love that the house in so centrally located and we do not need to drive once we are there. This is especially nice when the town gets really crowded and there is no parking. Cannon Beach is one of the prettiest coastal towns in the country. We feel so fortunate to have a home here.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Great shops, interesting restaurants, long walks on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, hiking, the fresh salt air.

Charm, comfort and a great location!

We rented this home for a mother/daughter/girlfriends holiday at the beach and had a blast. This historic cottage is in a wonderful and quiet location just a short walk to the ocean which you can see as you're walking towards it and a 3 block walk into town. Holiday weekends at Cannon Beach can be crazy and crowded but we enjoyed wonderful peace and quiet in this charming home. It was perfect for our group. The kitchen is very well stocked, the home is clean and the furnishings are unique and comfortable. We loved the family sized kitchen table and the game table in the living room was the perfect spot for jigsaw puzzles. The backyard and deck are private and sheltered from the wind and a fire in the evening was a great way to end the day. Margie (owner) was very easy to work with and everything was just as she said it would be. This is now one of our favorite beach rentals!

Charming and Comfortable

Our family returned from the beach and the Bonnie Nook just a week ago! This was our second stay and we love this little house. It is a great place to "come back to" after being at the beach or doing all the wonderful nearby things that one can do in this part of the country and is also a great place to "just be cozy in" if the weather isn't cooperating. (we forgot to sign the guestbook, but wanted to thank you again for renting out such a fabulous place to make memories in)!

What a trip!

We loved our stay at the Bonnie Nook! Favorite activities were surfing at Indian Beach, hiking at Oswald West State Park, renting the surrey (4-person bike) in Seaside, shopping the charming shops of Cannon Beach, watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean, exploring the tidal pools around Haystack Rock, and jogging, playing Frisbee, and flying a kite on the beach. Very clean and adorably decorated home, and we loved the drop-down door of the bedroom upstairs! The kitchen was the best stocked of any place we've ever stayed, and we loved the beautiful flowers and landscaping outside. It was an easy walk to the beach, and we'd highly recommend this home to anyone! Thanks!

Owner response:It gives us such pleasure that renters love our cottage as much as we do! And Cannon Beach is the best...so much to do and so relaxing. Nothing like that ocean air!!

Ladies' Weekend

Guest: Fran (Olympia)
Date of Stay: 11/12/10 Review Submitted: 11/14/10

I was tasked with finding the place to stay, and was delighted to hear the Oh's and Ah's when my friends stepped in the door. Better yet, the Oh's and Ah's continued even after we were gone. . .close to everything, cute, great antique homeyness, affordable, more than they expected. Several others could not make it to our ladies' weekend, so it was just the 4 of us with room to add more next time. We will definitely recommend the Bonnie Nook to others.

Owner response:We are so pleased that you enjoyed our cottage and thank you for your kind review. You are welcome back anytime!

The Bonnie Nook

Guest: FrankC (Bellevue, WA)
Date of Stay: 08/12/10 Review Submitted: 08/20/10

We stayed at the Bonnie Nook August 2010. It's a fabulous house and my wife and girls (18 and 14) loved it. What's great is that it's in a quiet street about 200 yards from the beach and 5 mins walk from town. Although one of the oldest in CB, it doesn't feel that way inside. It was nice and clean and very well maintained. You can see that a lot of thought been put into every aspect of it. Kitchen is very nice and well stocked with essential supplies (that's not always the case with vacation homes!) There's a great fire pit outside for roasting smores. This is a house we'd all come back too - a real pleasure to stay in.

A Magical Place!

Date of Stay: 04/17/10 Review Submitted: 04/26/10

Our family spent the weekend at The Bonnie Nook and we had a wonderful time! This cottage is so wonderful you will not regret staying here. It is clean and totally equipped for cooking and having everyone sit at the big table. The decorating is interesting and fun to look at. All the little lamps work! The neighborhood is quaint and relaxing and my mom who is 79 walked more than she has in quite a while. Of course the beach is nearby and easily accessible. We love the shops and the quaint restaurants too. All in all I can't say enough nice things about this little cottage. It is well taken care of and loved by its owners and it shows. Thanks for having us, I would love to come back :)

Amazing Atmosphere!

Guest: Family of Seven! (Vancouver)
Date of Stay: 02/16/10 Review Submitted: 04/14/10

One of the things we enjoyed the most about your home was the wonderful atmosphere! It felt like we were in a historic home, very close to the ocean (which, of course, we were, but it really felt like it, even if we hadn't known it was so close to the ocean). It was very cozy, and very comfortable, and it felt just like home - actually, even more comfortable than our own home. We loved all of the finishing touches ... the ship shades on the lamps, the anchor upstairs (the boys loved that!), the 'trap door' leading to the loft, the cute teddy bears on the shelves and the extremely well-stocked kitchen. We could even see the stars when we looked out of the windows of the loft, and it was so nice and quiet at night for sleeping. The beach was so close, we went there 4 times in one day! The kids loved jumping in the waves, on a beautiful sunny February day. And, at night, they ran back to play in the sand, and came 'home' to build their own campfire in the backyard! We really do love your place, and its homey atmosphere, and we want to return again for a much longer time. - SOON!

The Bonnie Nook

Guest: KasB (Portland, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 03/31/10 Review Submitted: 03/31/10

This is a lovely cottage, 2 short blocks from the beach and 3 blocks from downtown, a plesent walk to almost anywhere. My husband & I and a group of friends have been going for several years and love it. It's charmingly furnished and very comfortable. The kichen is well stocked with dishes, pots and pans and has plenty of seating for meals. The back porch is great to sit on to soak up the sun, enjoy a glass of wine and just enjoy the peace and quiet. It's our favorite place to stay at the Oregon coast. Not to mention, the owners are wonderful to deal with.

Owner response:Thank you for the nice comments you made about our cottage. Hope you come back again! Margie

This will be our third summer staying at the Bonnie Nook. While I hate to promote it so we can have it all to ourselves, it is only fair to the Waite's to let you know what a great job they have done with the cottage. It has a true beach home feel. It is centrally located to the beach, down town, and mid town. We never drive our car once we are there. It comfortably holds two families.
