This is a truly secluded cabin, in a heavily forested valley of the Mississippi bluffs. Enjoy the cool shade of the forest in the hot summer months and the amazing array of changing leaves in the fall and the still peace of the stars and the snow in the forest in the winter time. Sitting outside with a warm bonfire in this quiet valley with the moon and stars overhead is something to behold. The cabin is equipped for year round rental with the wood stove to warm you on the cold winter days (as well as a large off peak electric heater) and for the hot summer nights this valley stays cool and the option of air condition is available. The kitchen has a large stainless fridge and a full oven and double bowl cast iron sink. The cozy loft has one full size bed and a futon that folds down to a full size bed that is very comfortable. In the loft area is a large flat screen TV with a large selection of DVD's for cozy movie enjoyment. The loft also has a game area with chairs and a large selection of board games for a rainy day.

The Mississippi is less than a mile walk from property. The Cold Springs Boat landing located on HWY 35 in between Ferryville and Lynxville on the Mississippi River, has some of the best fishing available on the Mississippi (people travel a long way to attend this local hotspot.)

There is a Handicap parking and a ADA concrete ramp that allows wheelchair access to the cold spring fishing spot.

There are several parks near the property with amazing trails and sights: Effigy mounds National Monument Iowa, Pikes Peak State Park Iowa, Yellow River State Forest Iowa, Rush Creek Natural Area WI, Upper Mississippi wildlife refuge WI. Prairie Du Chien, the second oldest settlement in Wisconsin offers many amenities from shopping to museums, swimming pools, amusement park, movie theaters, restaurants. McGreggor and Marquette Iowa are just across the river from Prairie Du Chien and are very attractive tourist destinations. Nine miles south of the property on HWY 35 is a restaurant Voted one of the best in the state for prime rib, and that is the smoke free Spring Lake Inn restaurant. The list could go on and on as you explore this amazing area of the state of Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota.

Our "Walden"

Guest: Bill (Chicago)
Date of Stay: 08/07/11 Review Submitted: 08/10/11

I have stayed here on three separate occasions: once with my late dog, and twice with two good friends. We are middle-aged, quite used to the comforts of living in the big city. But we have decided that this is one of our favorite places. It's rustic to be sure, but clean, well kept, full of character, and beautifully situated in a lovely, deeply wooded ravine by the Mississippi. It's a long drive for us, over 5 hours, but once we arrive, we forget the drive. If you seek quiet, come here. We will, next chance we get.

Great location, cozy cabin

Guest: Emily (Madison, Wisconsin)
Date of Stay: 01/05/11 Review Submitted: 01/09/11

A few more photos would help define this cabin, so I will explain them. Upstairs is another full bed that is extra comfy along with a sitting area between the bedroom area and the TV section. Plenty of extra blankets and pillows. Downstairs is a bathroom with shower- nice hot water- and has a space heater so you don't need to worry about being cold. We didn't leave once, so I can't recommend any nearby activities. There are a few board games available and a WONDERFUL selection of DVD's to use with the big-screen tv. I would recommend this location to anyone; young, old, families, couples.

Perfect Thanksgiving Setting

Guest: Brad & Oma (Chicago, IL)
Date of Stay: 11/25/09 Review Submitted: 10/26/10

My fiance and I stayed here to celebrate and prepare our first Thanksgiving meal together, and it was without a doubt one of the greatest long weekends we've ever shared. The cabin is perfect - secluded, warm, well equipped with the necessary modern amenities, and in a beautiful valley. When we pulled up everything was set - there was even a fire in the fireplace to heat up the place for us! (There is also a more traditional heater, but we preferred the sounds of the fire!). We were able to cook up a fantastic Thanksgiving feast for the two of us and our two pups and cat, and the cabin-in-the-woods-setting couldn't have been better! Truly a very special place - whether hiking the valley, exploring the local town, sipping a glass of wine by the campfire outside while playing fetch, or curled up in the loft upstairs watching a movie on a chilly night... every memory from here is cherished, and we greatly appreciate the owner sharing this awesome treat with us!

Cabin At The End of the Road

Guest: Caroline (Minneapolis, MN)
Date of Stay: 10/15/10 Review Submitted: 10/19/10

Fabulous spot to spend the weekend, and we were thrilled when we drove up the driveway to see how secluded and lovely the little cabin is. Perfect for 2 adults plus a couple of well-mannered dogs (and this would be perfect for 2 adults and a couple of well-mannered kids, too!). It was clean, well organized, situated close to many interesting day adventures including the sculpture garden near the visitor's center and the Indian Burial Effigies/Mounds, Old Man River Brewery ~ and so much more. With a beautiful October weekend, a fire inside was out of the ?, so the fire pit outside was very welcome. A well-stocked kitchen, good bathroom and the bed was comfy to boot! If back in the area I wouldn't stay anywhere else! Caroline from Minneapolis

Weekend Away

Guest: A couple in the woods (Alpha Il)
Date of Stay: 10/24/09 Review Submitted: 10/11/10

This is a very rustic cabin maybe best suited for hunting. There game feathers and blood not far from the cabin I assume left from the last guests. We were there in late October and walking around the cabin I had eight ticks on me including one on my eye lid. There was construction work from the neighbor and his chain saw ran much of the day. We have stayed in a lot of cabins this one was okay, but best for hunters with tick repellent in my opinion.

Owner response: The review is accurate that there was construction at a neighbors land over a football field away and yes the construction is finished. You can not see this persons cabin as it is around a bluff valley and is not visible at all. Sound does travel well in a valley and it is a pleasure to hear what is going on there 99% of the time, which is geese flying overhead and owls hooting and rustling of leaves and of course the chorus of crickets in the summer. I did last year have some duck hunters stay at our cabin and they did not properly dispose of a bird carcass and this will not happen again as I am not renting to hunters. Our cabin my be more rustic than a modern home, but it has running water and a full bath and kitchen as well as a modern heating system with the choice of wood stove use if one wants. The whole entire region of southwest WI has wood ticks and the cabin is located in the middle of the forest and it was October and the ticks are vibrant in the late oct early nov months also it must be noted there are NO ticks inside the cabin and with moderate precaution i.e. insect repellent anyone can avoid wood ticks outside the cabin. I do not thick it is accurate to say this cabin is suited for the rugged only as we have family's and couples staying there filling a guest book at the cabin, and the pages are filled with wonderful stories of people and there stay there, so I encourage anyone who has concerns to contact me and ask me personally. Thanks Michael.

Just what we needed

Guest: Sarah/Todd (Altoona/Arcadia WI)
Date of Stay: 03/20/10 Review Submitted: 03/26/10

My boyfriend and I needed a get away, and this cabin was just what we needed. The only thing different we would do next time is bring our own food. We brought breakfast food, but after seeing the grill and full kitchen we wished we would have cooked all of our meals there. We will definately return.

Great spot. We really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin is very cozy and well equipped. It's peaceful and quiet yet there are numerous things to explore very close by. It was also a real bonus to be able to bring our dog with. Thanks for making it available for others to enjoy.

My wife and I had the chance to stay at this cabin in the fall and winter seasons. What a great experience! This cabin is very private and cozy. There are TONS of things to do nearby, as well as just relaxing next to the fire inside or outside at the cabin. It was great to have some little "luxuries" and amenities like a flat screen TV, a full-size refrigerator, and a full stove/oven. This made planning and preparing meals SO easy for us. This was a great experience. I would recommend this cabin to anyone!
