A Wonderful Vacation Home

Hello Candace, We have returned from St. John and wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Mampoo Hill. The design, location, landscaping, and just the ambience of this home are truly amazing. On our previous visits to the island we have always stayed up on a ridge with wonderful views, but we always had to drive down a steep hill to get to the ocean. When you are walking the beach or snorkeling the bay, you realize there are other homes in the area, but Mampoo Hill has a peaceful privacy that is remarkable. Our experience could not have been more pleasant and relaxing. We were more than 2 hours late arriving because of a thunderstorm in Miami, so it was already nearly dark on St. John, but your local manager's partner, Craig, was so pleasant, very warm and welcoming, and eased what had been a bit of a stressful trip for us. The minute we came down the walk and saw the house (and what was left of our first sunset there), we forgot our minor travel woes, and relaxed instantly. Thank you for your personal efficiency, which made everything prior to the trip very easy. Most of all, thank you and your husband for maintaining this little piece of paradise and sharing it with others. Sincerely, Christine Bratka and Charles Fannin

In spite of wonderful vacations in Paris, Provence, the British Isles, Spain, Italy, & Greece, we have been returning to Mampoo Hill in St. John during the last 6 years. Relaxing, romantic, and private, Mampoo Hill practically sits on the water. The house itself, characterized by the term “elegant simplicity,” is well-maintained and beautifully decorated, which makes it a little treasure of an island home. Recently renovated, it has an open-air living room & kitchen which flow onto the deck overlooking the water of Devers Bay, a fantastic bay for snorkeling. The two bedrooms, each with its own private bath, are air-conditioned & enclosed and give spectacular views of the ocean from your bed as you awaken each morning. Sitting in the hot tub enjoying a St. John sunset and a rum drink amidst coconut trees and lush, tropical vegetation makes one realize that Mampoo Hill is the perfect get-away. Also, it’s close to town, restaurants, and shopping. The potentially annoying “no see-ums” that come out in the morning everywhere on the island are easily dispersed by the “bug juice” provided by the owners. Hint #1: we have found that the 4-door, air-conditioned jeep is the best deal on the island—and totally hassle-free. Hint #2: be sure to use the MH double hammock stretched between 2 palm trees right next to the ocean’s edge. We love the original artwork around the house, as well as all the modern conveniences. We’ve found this unique island home the perfect answer to our desire for a rejuvenating, laid-back, yet fun-filled holiday.

This house is the perfect place to stay if you are planning to visit St. John. Price was reasonable, house was neat and clean, location was incredible and we always felt safe. Loved having the beach towels there so we didn't have to waste the space in our suitcases. The layout of the house was perfect for 2 couples we had plenty of privacy but had the center of the house to socialize and come together. We spent time in the hot tub every night we were there... ahhh.. remembering watching the stars with a cold drink in hand... good times .. good times! The owners were so easy to work with and we had the jeep waiting for us as soon as we stepped off the ferry. We thought we'd spend more time in the water behind the house, but after one trip in we discovered it a bit tricky, of course it didn't stop us from enjoying the hammock or the lounge chairs by the water. St John is simply stunning and we can't wait to go back. We went during the off season and most of the beaches we visited were empty ... sometimes it felt like we had the island to ourselves. We can't say enough wonderful things about Mampoo Hill and St. John, this was by far the most epic vacation we've ever had.

Mampoo Hills' modern amenities and tropical setting is the perfect low key getaway. We stayed for a week in January with our 20 year olds and loved it so much we are returning this summer. The cottage is perfect for quiet, open-air relaxation, but close enough to town to enjoy all the restaurants, bars and shops. There are plenty of beaches around the island and we enjoyed exploring different ones every day. Driving the island is a rollercoaster adventure from which Mampoo Hill welcomes you home. Sunlight or starlight the setting is quietly magical and offers the best of island living.

This house was absolutely perfect for my St John vacation! It was very welcoming, private, a great layout and well-kept - a wonderful place to relax after the full days of the island's beaches. I can't wait to come back, and when I do I am for sure staying here. Thanks for renting the house out and helping to make it my best vacation ever!

My wife and I spent a week at Mampoo Hill in December, 2010 - what a great place to be!! The house is beautifully furnished and had everything we needed (and more - a gift basket of fresh fruits, juice, sodas, and rum). The house manager was most helpful and friendly too. The house has almost complete privacy and feels like you have the entire Devers Bay to yourself, and some of the best snorkeling on the island is right behind the house. We found the house to be just far enough from the hustle & bustle of Cruz Bay, yet plently close for dinners out and hitting the beaches with a quick drive. We can not wait to go back, and will definately be staying at Mampoo Hill when we do!

Our stay at Mampoo Hill was wonderful. The house is amazing and was certainly everything it had been explained it would be and more. The house managers were wonderful in having the house prepared for our arrival (especially in the middle of tropical storm Otto) and they were extremely helpful and attentive during our stay. We chose St. John for our destination wedding on 10-10-10 on Hawksnest Beach and it could not have been more perfect. The open air design of the house, Caribbean softly crashing on shore 20 yards away, lush palm trees and evening sunsets provided us with the ultimate feel of island living. Increadable romantic setting! We also leased the Jeep owned by Mampoo Hill. The Jeep is like new and allowed us to cover the entire island with ease. I would like to send a special thanks to all the great folks at Mampoo Hill for making our destination wedding experience so remarkable. We will definately be returning! Tonya and Donnie Van Patter

Great Villa

My wife and I visited from 6/12/10 through 6/18/10 and had a great time. The location cannot be beat, constantly hearing the waves crash against the shore 20 feet away. The waves were the perfect backdrop for our daily afternoon nap after we returned to the villa from the great nearby beaches and snorkeling. The pro's far outweigh any con's - the biggest con was the mosquitoes but this problem was not the villa's fault. We also got a lot of bites at the beaches on the other side of the Island so this problem was more of a result of the time of year (June) we visited. Overall this is a great place to stay, well supplied kitchen - the washer/dryer along with the gas grill came in very handy also - this is much more than a condominium. My wife did have trouble getting used to the outdoor shower in the master bedroom, especially when the neighbors pool is so close. The shower is totally private and noone can see in, so as I told my wife just relax and enjoy the uniqueness. You will have a great time here, I cannot wait till we return.
