Welcome to Phoenix in the Dunes, a luxury home completed in 2006 with all the amenities you seek, just 2.5 hours from Chicago and 3.5 hours from Detroit. It's perched on a wooded dune 700 feet from a large private beach shared by just ten houses--easy to get away from it all, yet a short walk or ride from the center of Castle Park, a historic 19th century resort community. There's a pool, eight green-clay tennis courts, half-day "play class" for the kids from July 4 to mid-August, and lots more.
Bedrooms: 5 (1 king, 1 queen, 2 with 2 twin beds each, 1 with bunk-beds, daybed and sleeping loft)
Sleeps: 12 in beds. Overflow guests can also be accommodated on 2 sleeper couches in the living room.
Bathrooms: 3 1/2. Master bath has two-person whirlpool tub. Downstairs bath (adjacent to queen bedroom) has walk-in shower with grab-bars, seat and hand-held shower, plus rain-head. Second upstairs bath has kid-depth bathtub with shower. Extra upstairs powder room, too!
Kitchen: State of the art gourmet kitchen and adjoining pantry with soapstone countertops, hickory cabinets. Kitchen windowseat and farm table look out on deck and wooded ravine.
Dining room: Farm table seats up to 12.
Living room: Comfy couches, fireplace, TV with DVD player and gaming system.
Outdoor living: Back deck and patio put you in the treetops, with excellent morning sun and terrific bird-watching. Gas grill, charcoal grill, Adirondack chairs, and dining table and chairs. Another deck wraps around the house on the upper level, with a bump-out overhanging the hill--spectacular yet peaceful.

We booked this outstanding vacation home for a reunion of close college friends + families and kids and it was the perfect venue! The house itself is situated high on a hill and offers nice views as well as a charming forest location. A brief and exciting (but doable) hike across the bluff and sand dune brings you to a private beach where the sand is pristine and the crowds non-existent. Ample kitchen and dining space meant that we could stay in the house all week and never really have to venture out of Castle Park. There is also a terrific kids play area down the hill that is perfect for kids ages 0 - 8.
Recommended for:Families with young children, families with teenagers.

I stayed here as part of a group of 15 7 adults and 8 kids ranging from 1 year to 7 years old. What a wonderful vacation. The owner is incredibly well organized and the house which was just rebuilt/remodeled in 2006 is fantastic not just because of the great amenities, kitchen, flat screen, BBQ, games, etc. but also the artchitecture of the hosue is wonderful, it is at the top of a hill at the end of the road on castle park, with its wonderful location you feel surrounded by nature, and are completely isolated from any other man made noise. The house itself has a wonderful, layout, open kitchen, cathedral ceiling many windows to give great light and wonderful reading nooks, and outdoor balconies, plus a great room with bunk beds where you can pack all the kids. The walk to the beach is wonderful, a few hundred feet through a wooded ridge and down a sand dune, for the kids this in itself was a wonderful adventure, and what a beach totally private, fine white sand and the lake in summer was great. Castle park is a very well to do private area, with Sagautuk nearby a wonderful quaint town for a daytrip. kids really enjoyed the go kart, bumper boats in Maine, I would highly recommend this home for a good clean family oriented vacation to get it away from the rat race for a week. There is a reason that every review is a 5!!!! Enjoy.

We just got back from our first vacation on Lake Michigan and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The house was exactly as described, if not a little understated!!! Six of us (parents and four young adults) lived very comfortably in this well appointed house. The owner was a great communicator throughout. Without her directions I don't think we would have found the house when we first arrived!!! The private beach was a short walk away and was never crowded, even over the July 4th holiday weekend. We appreciate that Castle Park and the home were dog friendly. We enjoyed the beach, golf, on-site tennis, downtown Holland and all the amenities in the home. Thanks for a wonderful experience!!!

We were so thrilled when we arrived at Phoenix in the Dunes and opened the door to a gorgeous home! With a top-quality kitchen, beautiful bathrooms with great fixtures, and spacious living, this home is a perfect blend of luxury and woodsy, outdoor living. My husband and I can't wait to return!
