In 2004 I found the village where my German ancestors emigrated from in the early 1900s. It was originally called SOVA. It is now called Ravno Selo. My family although German came from this village. I am a Donau Schwab. Literally translated Donau is Danube; Schwab is a state in Germany. In the 1800s many Germans lived in this region and my house and many others like it were built by Donau Schwabs. Now it is called Ravno Selo, literally "flat village". It is a beautiful small village in northern Serbia far from any political problems. Life is very simple and quiet and the people are incredibly friendly and helpful.
My house is a hundred years old, made of clay, straw and brick. I have installed all updated appliances and a new bathroom and kitchen. The grounds are about 2 acres and include an orchard with apple, plum, walnut and pear trees. Raspberries and grapes and figs also can be found in the yard. Every time I go, I discover a new fruit growing in my yard. It is very safe and you will feel like you have stepped back in time.
1. My dear friends Goran and his wife Sneza will welcome you and get you settled in the house. Goran's mother Duschka is an incredible Serbian cook and I'm sure would be glad to add you to her table or bring you prepared meals for a reasonable price. She makes her own sausages and much of what she prepares comes from her garden.
My house is an hour drive from Belgrade on a highway. It is about 20 kms from Novisad. From my house you can explore Novisad, "the Athens of Eastern Europe" a beautiful city on the Danube River. The Petrovarasin Fortress sits right across the river from Novisad and is truly amazing and totally intact.
If you want to explore an undiscovered and still very cheap part of Europe this is the location for you.

- My house is located on 2 and 1/2 acres. There are many fruit trees on the property. There are children's swings and a hammock. It is in a small village that is like stepping back in time a couple hundred years. There are many interesting road trips you can take from my village as it is centrally located in the northern province of Voivodinja.
