Waterfront Cottage on Fishers Island, New York - easy access via CT Amtrak to either Boston/ Providence or New York. Fishers Island is a naturalist's and artist's dream location for a holiday - sailors, golfer's, tennis players, fishermen... all keep Fishers TOP SECRET. Accessible from New London, CT via a car-carrying ferry boat.

This house, "Skimmer's Rest", has a large Master Bedroom on the ground floor (queen bed) with private master bath (shower and Jacuzzi tub); a Child's room with twin beds, private sink and sleeping/play loft; Guest Bedroom, 2nd floor, over library (queen bed), with sleeping nook for more kids. Second bathroom (ground floor) has shower. Living room has open design with library area (TV, CD/ Tape, DVD/VCR; sofa bed - double) and fireplace wood stove insert. Dining room with table for 14+/-; screened porch and large deck overlook lawn and small sandy beach. There is an out-door Shower.

The house is about 20 years old, has a simple design and is furnished in a Scandinavian style. Centrally located on the east end of the island. One can easily walk to Middle Farms Flats or Chocamount Beach. Island has a small food store, hardware, liquor store and a few gift shops. Very quiet island life - perfect for R&R.

  • I have twice visited this home on Fishers Island. Both times it was as though I was in an entirely different world. The island itself is enchanting - one steps back in time into a combination of nature at it's best and tradition. The house itself is open and inviting, comfortable and able to easily accomodate a group. And it's right on the ocean and yet private. Hang out on the screen porch with a book, in the living room with a puzzle, cook to your heart's content in the open and generous kitchen, hike along the many island trails, site the numerous osprey nests or relax on the sandy beaches. It's a treat.

  • We stayed at Skimmer's Rest for a month in the summer of 2001 and had a fantastic time. The island itself is wonderful to explore, the house is a treat to live in, and the owner a pleasure to work with!
