A perfect place to stay in Tuscany

We just returned from a week in Tuscany, where we stayed at Tuscany Vecchio Frantoio, just outside of Cortona, Italy. What a beautiful apartment! It It had absolutely everything we needed and was spotless! This apartment was one of several modern apartments in what was once an an old olive press. The original stone structure has been preserved, complete with gates and an enclosed plaza. The view from both our front balcony and our bedroom window was incredible! The grounds are beautiful and the location perfect. Although it is possible to walk to Cortona, it is a long walk and a very steep climb. We would definitely recommend having a car. There is a grocery market just down the street and plenty of shops in Cortona. There is a great deal to do in Cortona to keep you busy, but if you want to go further, the train station is nearby, and it is a relatively short drive to Sienna, Assisi and many other Tuscan communities. We'd definitely recommend a visit to the Cortona Saturday market, as well as Alessandra's cooking class and Patrizia and Imperio's oil press tour and class. Dealing with the owners, Catherine and Ben, was so easy. They promptly answered our e-mails and were very patient with our many questions. Patrizia, the owner's local agent in Cortona, went out of her way to make our stay perfect. If you visit Cortona, this is definitely the place to stay.

Amazing Apartment

Our family has holidayed in this apartment three times and each time has been a joy. The apartment is part of a beautifully restored olive mill, set among delightful gardens and with a good size pool which has a stunning view of the surrounding hills. It is very comfortably furnished in typical local style and the kitchen has all mod-cons, making cooking a pleasure, especially with the abundant local ingredients. The lounge area has ample seating and plenty of floor space to accommodate kids and their inevitable toys and detritus, and this in turn leads onto a common patio area where you can eat outside in pleasant surroundings. If you are unlucky enough to encounter inclement weather, however, the dining table seats six comfortably. The house suited our family well with two bedrooms and lounge with TV and DVD player which was also helpful at the end of the day with the children. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens, with ample space for kids to run around in as well as pretty seating areas – there's even a vineyard, lovingly tended to by one of the owners. Location-wise, Cortona – a gorgeous Etruscan town perched improbably at the top of a steep Tuscan hill – is only 5 minutes away, and has many places of historical significance, including an abundance of Etruscan tombs. You can also do a stunning walk to Cortona. Cortona has great bars and restaurants, presided over by friendly locals, and the laid-back 'arty' vibe that prevails, with little galleries and artists' studios round every corner. And if you wish to travel further afield, the autostrada is conveniently located, making it easy to visit many Tuscan and Umbrian towns and cities, for example, Florence, Siena, Perugia and Orvieto. Perhaps the most significant element of holidaying in this part of Tuscany is that you are also close to Umbria and towns like Assissi. So would we go again? Emphatically yes!

This is a beautiful part of italy and this is a lovely apartment. It is an old olive press converted sympathetically to apartments. The property was very clean and very well maintained. The amenities in the property all worked. There was plenty of car parking and there was a pool in the property. It was situated in the countryside and therefore it was very peaceful. You could either walk to Cortona or drive which was just 10 minutes by car. Cortona itself is a quaint, medieval town. On market days the town is crowded. The owner was very helpful in answering all our questions and queries. There are so many places which visited. Arrezo, Assisi and Perugia can all be done in a couple of hours. We also visited Montepulciano for the wine. Florence too is possible on the train. We had a great time and would thoroughly recommend this property to friends.

From the minute we arrived at the gate and saw the outside of the property we knew we had made the right choice. Inside was tastefully furnished and it was also in keeping with the Tuscan environment - rustic but well complimented with the luxuries and conveniences we needed. The apartment is extremely comfortable. One of the best features of this apartment without a doubt is the great panoramic views of the Tuscan hillside. When you sit by the pool there is 360 degree view. It is safe and plenty of room for the kids to run about and several barbeques are available with chairs, tables etc. Ample room to sit outside to have your antipasti and slip a glass or two of Chianti. Cortona is a great little town and it is a place for walkers. There is scenic walk from the back of the apartment to Cortona (approx. 45 minutes) which takes you through olive groves and the hill side is bursting with wild flowers and herbs.
