Built at the turn of the century in the 'Modernista' (art nouveau) style this spacious four bedroom apartment in the L'Eixample area is just a 15 minute walk from the heart of the Plaza Catalunya and Ramblas district. The accommodation has undergone sympathetic restoration, retaining its traditional character whilst offering modern facilities. Two of the double bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and there is an additional bathroom with full-sized bath and shower over, while the kitchen has been restored to the highest standard.
The 2.75 metre high ceilings retain their traditional moldings, most prominently in the dining area with its ornate plasterwork and antique chandelier.
The restored decorative encaustic tiles of the floors are set off by the plain colors of the walls, while the tall elegant doors and louvered shutters complete the turn of the century ambience. Tall fitted wardrobes provide ample storage space.
One of the nicest features of the apartment are the three balconies which look out onto the streets below, giving a sense of openness not always found in older apartment buildings in Barcelona.
The immediate area is alive with shops and restaurants in an area dominated by the hub of the Mercat Sant Antoni, one of Barcelona's best markets. This location offers all the advantages of local living, the 'real' Catalunya, while being centrally located for the architecture, museums, beaches, shopping and night life Barcelona is famous for.
There are three metro stations close by, the closest being Poble Sec; Sant Antoni and Rocafort are the other two.
One important detail which must be pointed out is that the apartment is on the fifth floor and there is no lift, which rules out the elderly, unfortunately.
