If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but still want the amenities that make a truly enjoyable vacation, this is a beautiful solution. Set up as a future retirement home, this luxurious 2,500 square foot cabin has many features that will make your stay a comfortable one.

Swan Lake is located less than 20 miles northeast of Grand Rapids in the quiet town of Pengilly, which is only 2.5 - 3 hours north of the Twin Cities. The property has 150 feet of East facing lakeshore with a sand bottom and gradual slope that invites you to play all day in the water. This lake is very quiet, but yet 2,700 acres gives you the feel of big water for both fishing and recreational boating - whatever you desire. A public boat landing is less than 1 mile away.

Watch the sun come up from the elevated deck as the day greets you. Excellent walleye fishing (and sunnies from the dock), skiing, wakeboarding, tubing and every other water sport imaginable can be done right from the shore or dock. Use the boat lift or tie your boats up to 2 sets of cleats on the dock, or use the 2 seat kayak available from the beach. Relax at the firepit, cedar swing, or hammock right down by the water after a fun day on the water, a round of golf at one of the nearby courses, or bike rides on the nearby Mesabi trail. If you’re a star-gazer, enjoy the Milky Way right from the dock, or if you’re a movie buff, enjoy the full theater experience in the walkout level with a 100” dropdown screen, projector, and 6 Barcalounger reclining theater chairs. If you're a Winter enthusiast, state snowmobile trails are accessible right from the property, and the fireplace and radiant floor heat in the lower level will warm you quickly upon your return. Plenty of board games are here for your enjoyment for quiet evenings with adults or kids.

This home includes a full kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, stove, dishwasher, and large pantry. A 22" Weber charcoal grill is right outside the kitchen door. A large round dining room table seats 6-8, the kitchen island raised counter seats 3, and the bar seats 6 comfortably for meals indoors. Bring your whole family, as there are also 2 full sets of dining furniture with umbrellas that will seat 10 on the deck. 12 people will sleep soundly with 2 kings, 1 queen, 2 double beds and a new sleeper sofa, with plenty of space for air mattresses if needed. No need for a full suitcase of clothes; a full sized, stackable washer and dryer are located on the lower level.

A very large deck overlooks the water, with glass paneled railings that enhance your viewing enjoyment. A full patio under the deck provides day long shade if desired.

This uniquely decorated home is truly one-of-a-kind, with vivid murals decorating the entire lower walkout level, and many other creative touches throughout the entire home.

Swan Lake provides a uniquely exhilarating, yet relaxing vacation spot at the same time, where you'll often find more loons and eagles than boats on the water. Experience the best that Northern Minnesota has to offer!

Great Getaway Retreat!

Guest: Kurt (Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 09/24/11 Review Submitted: 10/18/11

If you're looking for a great place to unwind and enjoy good company this well kept clean home has all you need. The greatroom setting makes for easy social interaction as well as provide a nice view of the outdoors. The kitchen is well appointed and we especially enjoyed the wonderful bar area and unique sound system that is fully adjustable to anywhere on the residence. The movie theatre was neat and its chairs were outstanding. The home comes fully furnished for indoor and outdoor activities so you don't have to bring a thing to stay busy. The owners are easy to contact, helpful for area questions, and making the arrangements went slick. I highly recommend this stay to couples looking for a great getaway retreat, especially in the fall.

Nice place, but be advised!

Guest: Swanmano (MN)
Date of Stay: 07/09/11 Review Submitted: 08/10/11

The home is beautiful, many amenities and basically a nice place to stay. For the price, disappoiningly the home has no AC (which made for very warm and humid evenings), the dock has only two cleats so be prepared to pull your boat out each night because the aluminum dock has no bumper and it will shred your boat. Lastly, when you check in do a walk through of the house or you may get charged for a broken toilet seat ($40), which was broken when you arrived. We were looking to book for the same week in 2012, but because of the charge we will look for a different place to stay that does charge customers for items of routine maintenance.

Owner response:1. Air Conditioning. The renter is correct, it does not have air conditioning, however, all bedrooms and main rooms have ceiling fans, and floor fans are available where needed. I do know that we did have some hot weeks up there this past Summer. When we built the cabin, we purposely didn’t put in air conditioning because it typically is not as hot as it had been this Summer. Also, when we created the VRBO website, A/C would only be noted as available if and only if we checked a box stating that it had that feature. Since it does not, we didn’t check the box, and it doesn’t show up on the website. The VRBO system is very comprehensive, however, to be clear, I’ve added notations in both Other Amenities and Other Activities sections on the website that the property does not have A/C so renters are made aware. We are reconsidering adding A/C for the next season. Please ask about this when inquiring. 2. The dock cleats. Our dock system is a Pier Pleasure sectional dock system with 2 sets of cleats, one set on either side of the dock, and a Pier Pleasure 4,000# boat lift with an electric drive for renters’ use. We do not have permanent, mounted bumpers/fenders on either side of the dock. I am a boat owner, and I’ve tied my boat to our dock and many others, in big water, and I would never consider tying my boat to anything without using my own bumpers/fenders, nor have I ever had a problem. I have many times had friends and family tie their boats to our dock overnight (while mine was on the lift) and have had no problems whatsoever. We will evaluate putting solid bumpers on either side of the dock for the upcoming season. 3. The broken toilet seat. Our cleaning staff is very thorough, and this item was not reported any of the weeks prior to the renters’ arrival, which means that it must have occurred during their stay. The toilets are cleaned every week, so it could not have been missed, as it could not open without it falling off. It is written in the contract, initial instruction email sent out the week prior to the rental start date, as well as the 3 ring binder on site that I request the renter to review the property upon arrival and report any damage found. The renter has valid points about our damage policy regarding wear and tear items, and I’ve offered to refund the cost paid for this item; they declined. Our policy will be reviewed and updated accordingly based on this instance. Tom

Great place for families

Guest: Ann (Mt. Horeb, WI)
Date of Stay: 07/24/10 Review Submitted: 08/05/10

This was a beautiful home to create family vacation memories in! The lake is large, but quiet and clear. All kinds of outdoor activities are provided by the owner. There is bocce ball, horseshoes, kayaking and the RAVE trampoline for your enjoyment. Zip line for the kiddies, also. For more quiet times there is a hammock by the lake and a large fire pit. So much to do that you do not want to come in until dark. But there is so much to come in for. The owner thought of everything you could possibly need. For rainy days there are dozens of board games for all ages. The home theatre in the basement is amazing. We watched movies every night before we went to bed. The home is so well maintained and thought out. The owners want to make sure that you have a great time and are happy in their home. I can’t wait to go to this gorgeous location again!

absolutely the ultimate vacation spot

Guest: Iowans (Midwesst)
Date of Stay: 06/20/10 Review Submitted: 07/07/10

I just can't say enough about this property, I have never done VBRO before, but this was the easiest and best vacation one can go for. The property owner has great pictures of the details that have gone into this home. It has a paved bike trail that runs close to the cabin, good fishing, blowup water toys, and the ultimate entertainment, a MOVIE THEATER. If you are thinking about staying some place I doubt any person would walk away from this place unsatisfied no matter what the weather. The property owner is a very easy person to work with and very helpful.
