We had a great time staying at this home on Lake Independence. We had four couples with three children ages 13, 10 and 4. The home has a nice dock. The lake has shallow, clear water with a soft sandy bottom that goes out about 75 yards from shore where it drops off, so we didn't have to worry much about the kids getting into trouble. The home is clean with all the amenities except for cable TV and the internet. There is a nice walkout basement with bedrooms. The surrounding area is wooded and quiet. The fire wood is provided and so we had a campfire every night. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy the water.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Memorial Day weekend stay at the “rustic” cabin! The accommodations suited our family needs perfectly and the weather did a great job of cooperating. (80 degerees and sunny EVERYday!) The lake and the view from the cottage are wonderful and the set up of the space inside the house makes for an easy “flow”. Thanks to the owners for maintaining and sharing such a lovely spot. We would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to venture on up to Big Bay.

Stayed over the new year 2009-10 weekend and was very happy with this place. This has to be one of the nicest places to stay in Big Bay. LOTS of room, far more than the 3 couples who shared this place could use, and a huge screen porch which nearly doubles the square footage. Telephone, laundry, lots of wood for the wood burner that kept the place near 80 degrees, so my daughter was happy there too. Only one draw back, and that is the place needs a better frying pan, and the spatula is pretty much gone. Otherwise, there is NO reason not to rent this place and I am sure you will be very happy. This is not a self promotion, as I don't know these owners from strangers, just an honest assessment of a great place to stay. No disappointments here...for sure!
Owner response:Thank you. Be advised that the cabin now has a new set of frying pans along with a new set of spatula's

You have a wonderful home. Thank you for allowing us to have a great Easter 2008. With us living in southeastern Wisconsin and both of our daughters going to school in the UP (NMU and MTU) getting together is challenging. This allowed us to get together with them and some of their friends for Easter dinner, egg coloring, skiing and ice fishing. The home had ample space for all us, which totaled 10. Your description and pictures on the web site doesn't describe just how nice of a place you have. This is on our list of "must visit again". Thank you Rick, Sandi, Kristin, Erin Eidsvoog and friends.

We had a great time at this beautiful home on Independence Lake! We had a total of 10 people (2 families) and were very comfortable. The older kids enjoyed having their own space in the lower level - a pullout sofa and two twin beds. The view is spectacular and lake is very sandy. Lake Superior is a short walk or drive. Great location - town is nearby with a couple of stores and restaurants with Marquette within a 1/2 hours drive. Enjoyed swimming and relaxing by the lake, visting Lake Superior, leisurely boat rides we rented pontoon),bonfires and dinner at the Thunder Bay and Lumberjack Inns. There are also a couple of small cafes for good big breakfasts. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We love the Upper Peninsula - and we would defintely recommend staying at this lakefront home. The Hurley Families, Huntington Woods & Ann Arbor, MI

Wonderful barely describes the house! We had a great time, and even the rainy days we were able to enjoy the fabulous view. A wonderful place to escape from the world with Marquette close enough to visit.
