Yes, you CAN have it all! Experience the magic of the French countryside in this charming and roomy loft apartment in a 250 year old country farmhouse. Located just 15 minutes away from Amboise, one of the most visited cities in France, it’s the perfect starting point for an enchanting discovery tour of France’s glorious historical past. The Loire flows majestically through this historical castle-studded valley, recently listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Fields and forests are the views from your balcony. A separate entrance with a sturdy staircase takes you up to the spacious loft where you will marvel at the beautifully exposed, original, rough-hewn beams and stone walls. The large, dormer window floods the room with soft light and provides a pleasant view of the original 16th century well, garden and ruins. The new and modern bathroom with its comfortable, large oval soaking tub/shower stands in harmony with the ancient beams and angled walls. We enjoyed searching high and low for the loft's antique furnishings. If you are here in the spring, summer or fall, you, too, can explore the local "vide greniers" (community garage sales) or the many antique stores in the area. Treasures can be found!

Explore Amboise, only 15 minutes away, with it’s fortressed walls, ancient clock-tower, the Royal Chateau d’Amboise, and the special jewel, Clos Luce, the magnificent home where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last years of his life, now a museum and tribute to his genius. Just 30 minutes away by car or a delightful bike ride is Chenonceau, the darling of the Loire Valley Chateaux. Nearby, Chambord with its many turrets or Vilandry, with its amazingly beautiful ornamental gardens of colorful vegetables should be next on your agenda as they shouldn't be missed. Wine enthusiasts will also be delighted by the abundance of wine tasting cellars in the area. Local wine estates welcome visitors.

If you’re the outdoor type, one of the longest and most picturesque bicycle trails in Europe as well as section of the Grande Randonnee (France’s answer to the John Muir Trail) pass through Amboise, for your cycling and hiking enjoyment. Bicycles can be rented from several locations in Amboise or if you bring your own, we can shelter it in our barn.

Meals are a special treat around the farm! Chantilly, Kitty, Petunia and Pansy lay fresh eggs, and are as Free Range as one can get. When Veronica's Organic Garden is producing, the vegetables and fresh flowers are a delight for the senses. You can visit the twice-weekly open-air market and pick up something delicious to barbecue in the backyard. If you had your big meal in the afternoon, as the French do, you can enjoy a simple light meal at home in the evening; a crusty fresh-baked baguette from our village bakery with a sampling of Madame Bodet's chevre cheese, and the sausages from the market for which the region is famous, complimented with a robust red wine or sparkling, slightly fruity Vouvray from one of the many local wineries. Feel like going out? Our village is the home of the Restaurant Auberge de la Brenne, reknowned for it's gastronomical sampling of local specialities. There is also a plethora of restaurants in all price ranges from country casual to city elegant, within 20 minutes of the farmhouse and we’d be happy to recommend some to you. We have lived in France for over 20 years and are glad to offer our assistance by pointing you in interesting directions. We hope to make your stay not only one you will long remember but one you will long to return to, time and time again!
Stopping in Paris? Please ask about renting one of our studios, one or two bedroom apartments in the Chic 16th, the Impressionist Painters' Village, the Marais or the culteraly rich Latin Quarter.

Fantastic!

Guest: Annette and John (Adelaide, SA Australia)
Date of Stay: 09/15/11 Review Submitted: 11/15/11

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in September. Found it a little hard to find but what a treasure when you do! A beautifully furnished and clean apartment/loft, beautiful surroundings - better than the photos. Veronica and Steven were very kind, more than helpful in answering questions/concerns. Loved the delicious fresh tomatoes from the garden which Veronica kindly let us pick, also raspberries, chard and beetroot. It is a little out of the way, about 15 mins from Amboise, but a pleasant drive. Lots to see and do, 4 nights wasn't long enough. Absolutely recommend it!

Gorgeous country getaway after glamorous Paris!

Guest: Jelds (Melbourne Australia)
Date of Stay: 07/17/11 Review Submitted: 10/31/11

My partner and two children, 9 and 11 stayed here for close to a week in July this year. Veronica and Steven were charming, warm and fabulous hosts. It was more than we expected. The French countryside is beautifully picturesque and the farmhouse doesn't disappoint. We loved the openness, the fresh air, the green fields and forests and Adem especially loved climbing the huge weeping tree in the front yard. Veronica's hospitality is as sweet as her raspberries and green plums and we're desperate to go back.Thank-you for a wonderful time, it was perfect and I wished we'd stayed longer in Amboise (a gorgeous village with it's own river and Chateau) and the farmhouse! Till next time xx

Quaint, country apartment

Guest: ES (USA)

My spouse and in-laws decided to stay here for 2 nights. Steven and Veronica are very nice and willing to provide you with information, maps, gps, and recommendations. The apartment is on the top floor (not exactly an attic) in a farmhouse with loads of sheep, 2 chickens, a horse, and a dog. Keep in mind, the apartment can be difficult to find on the first try and is about 10-15 min from Amboise.

We just had our first trip to Paris and the countryside and this was THE highlight. The home and property are charming and Veronica and Steven are delightful. The hardest part was leaving to go back to Paris. You should stay here if you if you're visiting the Loire Valley.

Wonderful Retreat!

Guest: Susan (Springfield, Virginia)
Date of Stay: 09/05/10 Review Submitted: 04/25/11

My husband and I spent a lovely 8 days here. It's easy traveling distance to any of the castles and less than 10 minutes from Amboise. The farmhouse is charming and from the entryway to the apartment you have a lovely view of the french countryside (complete with sheep) and the owners sumptuous garden which they shared with us. The kitchen allowed us to take advantage of both the garden and the nearby markets. Madame and Monsieur were very helpful and went above and beyond in giving us information and even taking care of me when I came down with a cold. It was just lovely!!

a charming place to stay in the Loire valley

The location of farmhouse is great for anyone who wants to visit the chateaux in the area. Amboise is not too far and we went there repeatedly. It's now one of my favorite places. This loft looks just like it does in the photos. It had everything we needed, and more, (even a sweet dog!) The owners were so helpful: they provided us with lots of information on what was in the area, when were the best times to go places, good restaurants, etc. They left lots of brochures around for us to read. They were also planning to expand the loft to add another bedroom. There is a beautiful ever-expanding flower and vegetable garden in the yard. One of my favorite things to do was listen to the birds in the garden in the morning. It was so relaxing! very different from the honking car horns in the city. The view out the back door was beautiful. Seeing the different green fields made for amazing photographs. It was fun to buy local ingredients and cook a few meals in our kitchen. After a day of sight-seeing, it was nice not to have to go out hunting for a place to eat. We became very fond of the owners and did not want to leave.

Perfect

Guest: Debbie, Bill, and Clint (Winter Haven, FL USA)
Date of Stay: 07/04/10 Review Submitted: 07/26/10

Le Plessis was all as described in the listing and shown in the photos, and even more. The loft was very comfortable for the 3 of us and even with the warm temperatures, the ceiling fans provided plenty of cool relief. We literally had to make ourselves leave the tranquility of the farm to explore the amazing chateaux and other sights nearby. Everything we wanted to visit was within 15 to 30 minutes from Le Plessis, in various directions - so it is nicely centrally located. Veronica had us feeling at home immediately upon our arrival, and continued to provide suggestions for sights to see and places to eat that she felt we would enjoy -and she was right on! Our favorite activities were to either sit out in the shade with some fresh bread, cheese, and wine or stroll through the garden, grazing on the fruits, especially raspberries. We never ate a breakfast or dinner at the loft without finishing it off with the delicious raspberries (so we considered our walk through the garden as exercise with our dessert!). We enjoyed the sweet Tallulah, reminding us of our dogs back home, and the 3 girls clucking about the yard. I highly recommend Le Plessis to anyone that can slow down and enjoy the peace of the French countryside. Our only regret is that we could not have had a longer visit. We'll just have to start planning our next trip!!

An oasis of peace

Guest: Carol and Lewis (Montgomery, Alabama, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/30/10 Review Submitted: 07/18/10

What could be better than a clean, comfortable, and peaceful apartment in Loire? Veronica and Steve's barn loft is that and much more. They are great hosts and seem to provide everything and more for their guests. We felt at home on the first day and after four days we felt sad to leave our 'farm friends'. The bouquets of fresh flowers on our tables were such a pleasant surprise and made us feel that Veronica and Steve would pamper us, which they did in every way. We had spent five days in their wonderful Paris apartment and loved every minute of that but when we got to the farm we realized how much we needed nature, peace, and quiet. Gypsy, Babette, and the 'red one' Rita (pet chickens) were such a joy as we sat by Veronica’s rose garden to watch the sunset every evening beyond the pasture. We also enjoyed Fabian, their farmer neighbor, who brought his horse Beauty and Beauty's companion Romeo, a goat, to graze in the pasture every day. We would love to be there now to enjoy the harvest of tomatoes and other vegetables from the garden. This is a first class place to stay.
