Something magical happens when you come to The Camp. You have so much fun that you never want to leave. Unique in every way, The Camp is the ultimate North Carolina mountain vacation rental, located only forty minutes from Asheville. Just up the road from Bat Cave, The Camp, comprised of four rental properties, is perfect for large gatherings such as reunions, retreats, weddings, or multi-family getaways, boasting so many activities that guests will be hard-pressed to try it all during their stay.
The first thing you notice after passing through The Camp's main gate is the enormous, twisting water slide that ends in its own pool. The next thing you notice as you make your way past the pond and up to Cloud 9 is how amazing this place is. There's tennis courts and an outdoor basketball court, an athletic field that'll be perfect for a game of competitive baseball, and is that an old fire truck parked over there? You can't believe your eyes: The Camp really is a full-fledged summer camp, complete with a gymnasium and recreation hall, meticulously restored into a mountain paradise.
Cloud 9, The Camp's premiere vacation home, is attached to the poolside deck, right in the middle of all the action. Cloud 9 is an entertainer's delight, able to accommodate up to 21 people and boasting numerous gathering areas, including multiple outdoor and indoor dining tables, a huge screened-in porch underneath the wrap-around deck, and two family rooms with oversized leather couches. Evenings, people can gather in the kitchen, which feels spacious with vaulted ceilings, a huge stainless steel refrigerator, and high wooden cabinets. And late at night, you can practically leap right out of the hot tub and into the master bedroom's king-sized bed through a private entrance off the pool deck. Cloud 9 also has a home office with wireless internet and a downstairs area for the kids that includes their own den and a bunk room, both equipped with TV's, and their own full bath. The whole house is hardwood floored, making it great for the dogs to have a relaxing vacation too!
The Owner's Suite, which is a part of Cloud 9, is a magnificently appointed room with a private entrance off of the sunroom. The vaulted ceilings, high windows, stone fireplace and private balcony make the Owner's Suite feel like a room in a luxurious castle. A spacious stone and glass shower and an old-fashioned claw foot tub complete the fantasy with amazing attention to detail, right down to the golden fixtures on the double marble sinks.
A new adventure awaits you every hour at The Camp. You'll be surprised at all you can do without ever leaving. You might go for a morning jog on the paved trail, take a few hits at the punching bag in the exercise room, shoot a round of hoops in the gym, and then cannonball off the diving board into the heated pool. And after dinner, you find yourself engaged in a game of Scrabble in the social hall and then winding-down with a local brew as you listen to a friend play guitar by the bonfire. This is the kind of camaraderie that you've come to cherish at The Camp.
For nearly eight decades prior to its renovation, The Camp operated as Camp Mishemokwa where hundreds of children spent summers having all of those classic first-time-at-camp experiences. In 2005, The Blum Family purchased the 150-acre property, spending countless dollars and tireless hours rebuilding and renovating, and have given The Camp a new lease on life as an exclusive rental property.
The Camp is located near several of the best attractions that the North Carolina mountains have to offer. Five scenic miles bring you to Lake Lure, where Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey practiced dance moves in the moonlit water in the hit 80's movie Dirty Dancing. Just down the road from Lake Lure is Chimney Rock Park, a thousand-acre pet-friendly park whose main attraction is breathtaking Exclamation Point, which offers a stunning view of the gorge below. Nearby attractions also include gem mining and whitewater rafting.
You'll find everything you ever dreamed possible right on-site at The Camp. Catering is available, as is food delivery from dozens of restaurants. The Camp also provides plenty of firewood; delightful Smores will make you giggle like you haven't in years. Carolina Mornings is pleased to offer this one-of-a-kind North Carolina mountain vacation rental. Ideal for large gatherings, multi-family getaways, or an exclusive escape, The Camp is private, well appointed, and brimming with loads of fun for all ages!
Testimonial, Bill Coffman: "The Camp was the perfect place to host the 2011 Coffman Family Vacation! The whole week was a just a joy; whether relaxing by the campfire (we had one nearly every night), fishing in the ponds, hanging out in the hot tub, or playing on the grounds, the whole group had fun! The kids moved from the game room to the tennis court, to the gym (the trampoline was a big hit!),and then up to the field for kickball. They were on the go all day. Add to that snow tubing at the ski resort, hiking the trails at Chimney Rock and dinner in Lake Lure and Hendersonville; wow! Your location has it all!"

I don't believe pictures or words can sufficiently describe what this property has to offer. There truly is something for everyone at The Camp. My first of many visits to The Camp was on a guys trip filled with unbelievable memories. After that trip, I realized I needed to experience The Camp with my family. Although our children range in age from 16, 11, 2 and my wife and I were amazed at how much we were all able to do both on the property, and within in close proximity to Bat Cave. Being very fortunate to have returned to The Camp several times and in each of the four seasons, I could not imagine staying anywhere else in the Carolinas. This is the most economic way of having a home away from home. I must say that no matter what time of year you are looking to travel, there are a lifetime of memories waiting for you at the The Camp NC!

I am lucky enough to know the owner of the camp and am fortunate to have visited the camp at least 10 times ... so i am a little biased. Darren has created a piece of heaven in the hills - the camp has provided endless hours of enjoyment for our children, parents, siblings, etc. Plenty of activities, awesome grounds, amazing memories and more starts than you will see in a planetarium. You will never stay just once at the camp - i think about it while i work and want to go back again and again. You will not be diappointed.

The camp is a perfect venue for any get away!!! We have been there with and without children many times and always had a great time. The amenities are wonderful: cozy living spaces, outdoor waterslide, pool, gym, trails, close to chimney rock and Lake Lure, and so much more!!! The owners are very responsive to your needs and always available to answer questions and provide great advice on day trips and sights to see in NC. They make sure your "camp experience" is truly wonderful and relaxing. Your family will want to go back year after year - mine do!!

The camp is absolutely gorgeous. I must have went down the water slide 100 times. I couldn't believe it when I walked into a full-size basketball court/gym. I worked up a real good sweat and then did a few laps in the refreshing pool. The house itself is very luxurious and is decorated beautifully. The listing on this site was extremely accurate and the pictures were right-on. I couldn't get over how big the property was. We had a campfire and made smores which brought me back to my childhood. The kids can also play pool, ping pong, pinball and other games in the game room. Yes, I said a game room. Unlimited play....nice! I would recommend this vacation home to anyone who wants to give their family a real cozy vacation in the mountains with unlimited things to enjoy. Talk about lifestyles of the rich and famous, this was awesome.

Our family has trying to find the right place for a family reunion for years, but could not find a location that met our needs until we found this fantastic camp in the mountains! We had so much fun together-it's hard to say what we enjoyed the most: the heated pool, the heated water-slide, the full-court basketball gym, the game room with the giant fireplace (we made smores!), barbecues - non-stop fun and activities - yet we were able to find the quiet time when we needed it too with the many nature trails and walks along the stream leading up to the camp. One thing for sure - we we made some great family memories together. It was a perfect place to have a family reunion. We hope to come back every year!

This is a one of a kind vacation experience. A perfect place for a family (or families) to "get away" from today's frenzied world and slow down, relax, reconnect and simply enjoy being together. All in a private setting. Too many outdoor activities to list.

My family has been to The Camp several times and loved it! The kids had a full sleepaway camp experience with all the amenities all to themselves for the whole stay. The property is incredible as well as the mountain views which surrounded us. I would recommend this type of vacation to anyone looking for a unique experience. We can't wait to go back!

We have visited and stayed at the camp several times. It has become a yearly trip for my family. VERY kid friendly, very secluded, with many activities for everyone. The gym, baseball field, water slide were some of the favorites for my kids. Not to mention the multiple bon fire sites for roasting those marshmellows! So many attractions near by as well. You really need a full week to take advantage of all the FUN!! So much to do!! The main house is beautiful! With every amenity you could imagine. I have never seen a rental property like this.

I am a relative of the owner so someone may believe that my review is slanted (this is not the case at all). My family and I spent almost a week there and we still wished we had more time to enjoy the tons of activities at The Camp as well as the outlying areas. From the heated pool, jacuzzi, and water slide to the tennis and basketball courts, hiking trails, game room full of pinball machines, billiard and ping pong tables, air hockey, fireplace, etc... Aside from the camp itself, we also took advantage of the activities within a 45 minute drive including renting a boat on a gorgeous lake (Lake Lure), white water rapids, hiking at chimney rock park, golfing, and gemming with our children. The photos unfortunately do not give you an idea of what to expect as the inside of the home is decorated similiar to a five star luxury resort! Granite eat in kitchen, plasma tv's in rooms, and full bar. It was truly a combination of the most relaxing stay coupled with more activities than anyone could have time to enjoy in one stay. Cannot wait to go back again and again (my entire family feels the same as I do).
