The Camp

Guest: Mchael M (Black Mountain, NC)

My family has been to The Camp several times and loved it! The kids had a full sleepaway camp experience with all the amenities all to themselves for the whole stay. The property is incredible as well as the mountain views which surrounded us. I would recommend this type of vacation to anyone looking for a unique experience. We can't wait to go back!

The Camp NC is simply the best vacation home period. The main homes look like they are out of a magizine and the facilities are simply amazing. Best way to spend time with the family. So much to do and its all right there on the property. Kids loved it. This is our new vacation property for years to come..

I am a relative of the owner so someone may believe that my review is slanted (this is not the case at all). My family and I spent almost a week there and we still wished we had more time to enjoy the tons of activities at The Camp as well as the outlying areas. From the heated pool, jacuzzi, and water slide to the tennis and basketball courts, hiking trails, game room full of pinball machines, billiard and ping pong tables, air hockey, fireplace, etc... Aside from the camp itself, we also took advantage of the activities within a 45 minute drive including renting a boat on a gorgeous lake (Lake Lure), white water rapids, hiking at chimney rock park, golfing, and gemming with our children. The photos unfortunately do not give you an idea of what to expect as the inside of the home is decorated similiar to a five star luxury resort! Granite eat in kitchen, plasma tv's in rooms, and full bar. It was truly a combination of the most relaxing stay coupled with more activities than anyone could have time to enjoy in one stay. Cannot wait to go back again and again (my entire family feels the same as I do).

Team Retreat

Guest: Skiheel (Asheville, NC)
Date of Stay: 02/26/10 Review Submitted: 03/25/10

We try to do a retreat/trip with our varsity baseball team every year. This year we decided to try "The Camp NC" as it seemed like a great place for our boys to spend time together in a fun environment. Well...we were not disappointed! We were there in February of 2010, so the pool and water slide were not open...but there was still plenty to do. We had 16 HS boys and 3 coaches in our group. The main house was a great place for us to sleep and the two kitchens there gave us a great place to cook/store food (and 16 HS boys need a LOT of food). Most of our time was spent doing team building activities in the gameroom by the fireplace, in the amphitheatre down by one of the ponds and in the gym. We didn't have time to check out the hiking trails or to fish,,,but would have really loved to. We gave the boys a lot of free time...and the game room (with pool, ping-pong, air hockey and video games, fireplace) was definitely their favorite spot. There was more than enough room and options for all of the guys to keep busy. The gym was also great for free time as the guys enjoyed the trampoline and playing a one-on-one basketball tournament. The gym is one of the most beautiful "vintage" gyms I've seen as it has character that only a "mature" and well used gym can have.... it has obvious that it has been been well-maintained and cared for over the years. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and were assured that the whole place was "ours for the weekend"! The staff (Ken especially) was always available to help us out in any way that we needed...but was also very respectful of our teambuilding activities/efforts. The boys did talk Ken into playing some pool with them and I hope he had as much fun as they did! The Camp is a great place to get away. Very private...but very easy to get to. There is plenty do with no need for TV, I-pods, cell phones etc...(even though if we had wanted those kind of things there are MANY TV's in the house that we could have used. The addition of being able to use the pool and waterslide( if it had been summertime) would have been the icing on the cake. What really struck the coaches was that while there was so much to do & so many places to do it....we were treated as if the entire facility was ours to use however we needed. True southern hospitality! We would DEFINITELY go back to The Camp again...and have already suggested that other groups from our High School consider The Camp as a destination. TheCampNC gets an A+ !!

Do it.

The CAMP NC will remind you of the entire point of truly getting away. Many vacation properties are overpriced, hard to get to, and can make you more stressed than relaxed. The CAMP NC offers the opposite: obviously a convenient and truly beautiful setting with hospitable accommodations, but also something different - a unique experience that immediately puts you at ease and connects you with what is important. Take a REAL vacation - Do it.

I don't believe pictures or words can sufficiently describe what this property has to offer. There truly is something for everyone at The Camp. My first of many visits to The Camp was on a guys trip filled with unbelievable memories. After that trip, I realized I needed to experience The Camp with my family. Although our children range in age from 16, 11, 2 and my wife and I were amazed at how much we were all able to do both on the property, and within in close proximity to Bat Cave. Being very fortunate to have returned to The Camp several times and in each of the four seasons, I could not imagine staying anywhere else in the Carolinas. This is the most economic way of having a home away from home. I must say that no matter what time of year you are looking to travel, there are a lifetime of memories waiting for you at the The Camp NC!

I went there for a boys trip in Nov, I must say being from Nyc and all the hustle this Camp was a GOD SEND... I arrived on a thursday and had to try to detach myself from my blackberry. Once those gates opened to the camp, it was heaven.(goodbye blackberry). The fresh mountain air and tranquil views made me forget my nyc stress. The owner was awesome. He made sure we had everything we needed to make us comfortable. The house was upscale, never thought to find that type of home in the mountains. Our days were filled with things to do, we went hiking up into the mountains, then returned to play a game of basketball indoors.I never wanted to leave the camp but we did and went to dinner in town, very cute and clean. I also met some locals on my walk off the camp grounds and they gave me a jar of home made Honey that was made that same week...I am upset that I havent made time to go back there. I vacation alot and have gone to alot of hotels and resorts, but this CAMP has a better feeling when you arrive. It is warm and inviting. This a retreat not to be missed..Will be back with my son when he has a break from college..

Our entire family reunion vacation

Guest: H.M. (Miami Beach, Florida)
Date of Stay: 08/01/09 Review Submitted: 03/28/10

Our family has trying to find the right place for a family reunion for years, but could not find a location that met our needs until we found this fantastic camp in the mountains! We had so much fun together-it's hard to say what we enjoyed the most: the heated pool, the heated water-slide, the full-court basketball gym, the game room with the giant fireplace (we made smores!), barbecues - non-stop fun and activities - yet we were able to find the quiet time when we needed it too with the many nature trails and walks along the stream leading up to the camp. One thing for sure - we we made some great family memories together. It was a perfect place to have a family reunion. We hope to come back every year!

The Camp NC - "A Place To Be"

I went to the Camp NC twice. The first time with a few guys, and the second time with my wife and kids. Both trips were memorable for different reasons. From the pool to the waterslide to just relaxing and watching the sun rise between all of the foliage was just AMAZING !! The owner and caretaker really keep the property clean and organized.. They had extensive knowledge on where to take the kids on excursions.. Very convenient to Lake Lure , Asheville , and Chimney Rock Park. Simply the BEST Vacation my family and I had -- EVER !!

I have been around the world and back many times. "The Camp Nc" offers something for everyone. It is great for large families and at the same time allows plenty room for privacy and tranquility. There are tons of activities and recreational sports close to the camp, but once I arrived there was no need/want to be anywhere else. All we needed was provided and just loved the idea of feeling away from it all and the chance to become truly unplugged from the stresses of everyday life. It was safe and immaculate. My family and I love "The Camp NC" and will for sure be back and give it 10 Stars!!!!!

Can't wait to get back to "THE CAMP"

Guest: Rick & Kelli (Fort Lauderdale, FL )
Date of Stay: 06/28/09 Review Submitted: 03/25/10

There really is no place like "The Camp". Our family has been several times and each time it just gets better! The days are spent under the sun on the waterslide, diving into the pool, playing video games in the rec room, basketball and trampoline and exploring the wilderness. The nights are spent by the fire with smores (bring your guitar) and the kids performing on the stage. We have gone gemming, hiking at Chimney Rock, boating on Lake Lure and whitewater rafting, which are all close by. It truly feels like you are at sleep away camp with your family and friends. The owners are down to earth and you can see it in every part of the camp. We love The Camp and can't wait to get back!

I stayed at The Camp NC with my family last summer, and we had an incredible time. We had a total of 6 children with us ranging from age 1 to 17, and I tell you each one of them had a remarkable time. The location was precise according to the description. It is definately a must see!! The amenities were unbelieveable. My boys went up to the gym and played indoor basketball, while my nieces went in the game room and did arts and crafts. My mother relaxed on the upper deck of the pool area and rocked away in the rocking chair. There is definately something for everyone. This property is soo beautiful and CLEAN. It feels like home away from home. I can't wait to go back!!!

The camp is a perfect venue for any get away!!! We have been there with and without children many times and always had a great time. The amenities are wonderful: cozy living spaces, outdoor waterslide, pool, gym, trails, close to chimney rock and Lake Lure, and so much more!!! The owners are very responsive to your needs and always available to answer questions and provide great advice on day trips and sights to see in NC. They make sure your "camp experience" is truly wonderful and relaxing. Your family will want to go back year after year - mine do!!

We have visited and stayed at the camp several times. It has become a yearly trip for my family. VERY kid friendly, very secluded, with many activities for everyone. The gym, baseball field, water slide were some of the favorites for my kids. Not to mention the multiple bon fire sites for roasting those marshmellows! So many attractions near by as well. You really need a full week to take advantage of all the FUN!! So much to do!! The main house is beautiful! With every amenity you could imagine. I have never seen a rental property like this.

Great Family Vacation

Guest: NoahJack (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Date of Stay: 05/28/09 Review Submitted: 03/25/10

My family visted the camp last year and had the time of our lives. We have three children 10, 7, 3 and they all had a blast. It's probably one of the most beauitful places in the world. I could not get my kids off the water slide. My wife and I kept an eye on the kids on the slide while relaxing in the adjacent hot tub. We had no idea what to expect when we got there and we were pleasantly surprised. We would recommend the camp to anybody looking to get away and enjoy the outdoors.

I am lucky enough to know the owner of the camp and am fortunate to have visited the camp at least 10 times ... so i am a little biased. Darren has created a piece of heaven in the hills - the camp has provided endless hours of enjoyment for our children, parents, siblings, etc. Plenty of activities, awesome grounds, amazing memories and more starts than you will see in a planetarium. You will never stay just once at the camp - i think about it while i work and want to go back again and again. You will not be diappointed.

The Perfect Family Vacation in the Mountains

Guest: DutchBoy (Hollywood, FL )
Date of Stay: 10/12/07 Review Submitted: 03/29/10

The camp is absolutely gorgeous. I must have went down the water slide 100 times. I couldn't believe it when I walked into a full-size basketball court/gym. I worked up a real good sweat and then did a few laps in the refreshing pool. The house itself is very luxurious and is decorated beautifully. The listing on this site was extremely accurate and the pictures were right-on. I couldn't get over how big the property was. We had a campfire and made smores which brought me back to my childhood. The kids can also play pool, ping pong, pinball and other games in the game room. Yes, I said a game room. Unlimited play....nice! I would recommend this vacation home to anyone who wants to give their family a real cozy vacation in the mountains with unlimited things to enjoy. Talk about lifestyles of the rich and famous, this was awesome.
