This is a beautiful, well maintained farm house at the end of a dirt road, surrounded by 150 acres of undeveloped field and forest. A perfect retreat for writers, artists, yoga enthusiasts, or a family reunion.

Situated between the town centers of Bethlehem and Littleton, there are restaurants, book and antique shops, a Sunday flea market, Maya Papaya Coffee shop, as well as Chutter's Candy Store that boasts one of the longest candy counters in the US. Movie theatres in both towns provide nightly entertainment.

If getting back to nature is your goal, this is the place. The night sky sets off the stars like you never see near the city. Take a hike through the woods down to the river, swim or float on the playful rapids, and sunbath on lazy summer day on the pebbled banks of the Amanoosac River.

We are in the heart of the White Mountains, not far from skiing and swimming at Echo Lake at the base of Canon Mountain, where you can fish, rent canoes, or take an Canon Mountain Aerial Tramway ride up the slopes. Forest Lake is only a 15 minute drive, as is Moore Dam Reservoir, if you want to bring your boat. Bretton Woods ski area is not far a drive.

The White Mounains' famed Flume Gorge in Franconia Notch State Park, is only a 30 minute drive, where you can walk the 2 mile hike up past the waterfalls and covered bridges. And for fun day trips for the kids, less than 40 minutes will bring you to North Woodstock, NH where there is a water park, miniature golf, and other amusements.

Another great trip takes you to Clark's Trading Post, in Lincoln, NH, where you can take a miniature train ride, and see dancing bears. 40 minutes from Bretton Woods for cross country skiing, or feel free to cut your own trail over our 250 private woodland acres.

The large house with kitchen, dining room, living room, parlor, and several upstairs bedroom, a full bathroom with tub on first floor, shower on second, along with an additional half bath, will give you the space to stretch out, and enjoy a relaxing time away from the hectic daily pace of life. Though the furnishings are a bit of a hodge podge, you will love the light and comfort of this roomy home.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2008

Artist and his partner, took over the farm from their parents, who purchased and restored the smaller farmhouse 30 years ago. The rental property was part of the original farm, repurchased in 2008. Owners live up the road "a piece."

Why the Owner Chose Bethlehem

We bought the house for our own living, but, have decided to remain in our old house for now, and hold onto the rental house for future living.

The Unique Benefits of this House

It is a remarkably serene spot in the White Mountains. Our property sits on one of the largest privately own parcels of land, almost 150 acres. There is a charming old barn on the property that boasts one of the truest peaks to be found in the area. We are at the end of a dirt road, off the beaten path, where the stars take your breath away at night, but we are close to two towns, and both have quite a lot to do to keep you from getting too bored.

Family Reunion a Big Success

Guest: Cameron (Rockport, MA, USA)
Date of Stay: 10/14/11 Review Submitted: 11/18/11

We spent 2 nights with 14 of our closest family members and had no fights. Each couple had their own bedroom, the kids had an attic with lots of beds and mattresses, and the baby got to sleep by himself. The kitchen had all necessary appliances, all up to date, and there were enough settings for all of us. The living room was big enough for the kids to get away from the rest of us. The overall effect in 1st half 20th century farming, an ancient-history lesson for the grandkids. Surroundings include a big barn, apple trees and no neighbors in sight. Recreation includes a nearby river, an estate turned historical reservation, Cannon Ski area and Franconia Notch State Park, plus gentrified little Bethlehem. The property feels remote but is only about 10 minutes from Interstate 93.

New Hampshire Family Reunion

Guest: Margie (Katy, TX)
Date of Stay: 07/15/11 Review Submitted: 08/16/11

We stayed here for a week this summer and had a fabulous time. The house was very accommodating with lots of space for sleeping, relaxing and eating around the kitchen/dining room tables. It is located in the peaceful country and we spent early mornings sitting on the front porch. It is close to both Bethlehem and Littleton which are very quaint towns. And it is close to Echo Lake which has a beautiful beach (but very cold water)! We hiked a few mountains with our kids and they hiked several more mountains fairly close to the house. We even drove to Vermont to a cheese farm/factory and to Maine for lobster! Our only disappointment was that we did not see a moose. We are from Texas and we had never seen signs posted on the highway "Watch for Moose"! All in all, we had a relaxing, fun time with family at this farmhouse and we would recommend it to others.

Great House for Groups and Location near Mt. Washington!

Guest: jimmy (san jose, ca)
Date of Stay: 04/15/11 Review Submitted: 05/19/11

I organized a gathering for a group of 13 and the house proved to be perfect! The house was clean and spacious - everyone had a bed to sleep on and the kitchen/dining area was perfectly suited for everyone to fit around the table. Added bonus was the vintage record player with an eclectic mix of records to choose from made for some strolls down memory lane! We did a hike up Mt. Pierce and Mt. Eisenhower which was a quick, easy 20 minute drive from the house (we were going to attempt Mt. Washington but the weather wasn't looking very favorable for the climb). Easy to find, easy access to trails, and well-stocked home away from home! All in all a great rental that I would highly recommend!

Owner response:Thank you for your kind words, and helpful hints on your adventures while staying at our home. So glad your group enjoyed, and loved that you appreciated the Vintage sound system. Come back again soon, Asa and Lori

Peaceful country charm was just what we were looking for

Guest: willo L (Boston's North Shore)
Date of Stay: 12/18/10 Review Submitted: 12/26/10

We planned a last minute trip to this house for the first week of Christmas vacation, and the owner was very helpful and accommodating as we worked out details via email with just a few days' notice. We are a family of four with two little boys, joined for part of the week by another family of four and a single adult friend. The house easily held our group with plenty of room for everyone to find a comfortable corner for solitary or group activities. Having a separate eat-in-kitchen (comfortable for 6) and dining room table (seats 10+) wasn't a priority, but really made meals easy and comfortable. Along the same lines, the separate front and back parlor (living rooms) arrangement helped us corral the kids' toys into one space, leaving a less cluttered sitting space for adults who wanted a break from beeping electronics. There were plenty of bedrooms. The older kids made a game out of trying out different beds, so I think we slept in almost every one of the eleven different sleeping surfaces in the home! The setting at the end of the road was ideal. Even with snow on the roads (but not heavy snow), it was no trouble getting back and forth to the highway, even for a sedan. The small hill behind the house was good for sledding (our kids were 3-10 years old), and a 7 year old even practiced his skiing down the hill. This wouldn't be the place for a luxury seeker, and the sputtering plumbing kept startling me right up to the end of the week, but I think we will come back. We'd love to see this house in other seasons, and will be likely to return in winter, though getting a working woodstove in would really seal the deal for us. That's the thing we most wished for during our visit, especially when the power went out for a few hours. Both Littleton and Bethlehem were charming towns to visit. We want to come back in the summer to see the grist mill working in downtown Littleton.

Owner response:Dear Willo, So happy to hear you enjoyed our house. We are glad you appreciated the uniqueness of the property, and your great perspective on how the kids enjoyed the house, and the grounds is charming. We hear your request for the woodstove, and appreciate the yearning, it's a popular sentiment, but so far our insurance company is not budging on allowing us to rent with a woodstove. We'll keep investigating.,,,, Thank you for being such a considerate, and clean guest. Would love to have you back, Asa and Lori
