Property description

Our Cape Cod home stands on a quiet street with no direct access from Route 6, away from traffic and is therefore ideal for children. It has large open space main floor with fireplaced living/dining room with a large screen plasma TV with cable. The eat-in kitchen with cathedral ceiling was remodeled in the fall 2012, and it has a French-doors fridge and a dishwasher. A nice screened porch is off the living/dining room. The first floor has one bedroom with a double bed, another with two twin beds, and bathroom with a spacious shower stall with a seat. Upstairs there are three spacious bedrooms with a full bathroom. The beds are two queen, and one king. New hardwood floors were installed in 2011 and 2012 in all the rooms on the first and second floors, while the bathrooms and the kitchen are tiled. There is a washer/dryer in the basement. Outside on our spacious new deck is a charcoal grill and an outdoor shower with enclosed changing area.
Our house has been enjoyed by multiple or extended families. Children are welcome and pets are considered! Renters provide their own linens. There is no smoking in the house.

Eastham - Cape Cod's Little Secret: 'Cape Cod's Little Secret' (The New York Times) and 'Gateway to the National Seashore', Eastham is still considered a small town (population just under 5000) and is more quiet than most Cape towns. Eastham beaches offer gentle surf, soft sand, warm water and a beach that changes in appearance every few hours. An inlet on the bay, Eastham is home to the Cape's warmest water, thanks to shoreline stretching into the bay during low tide. Sandbars are heated by the sun in low tide and as the tide rolls in, the water heats up over the warm sand. Low tide is a great time to relax and read, while kids hunt for hermit crabs, minnows and other beach creatures in the clean, warm water tide pools. At high tide, Eastham beaches change completely, offering gentle surf and warm water, excellent swimming and canoeing. Very gradual elevation changes make an easy and safe water entry and exit for little ones.

Cape Cod National Seashore: The great “Outer Beach” of the Cape Cod National Seashore, on the ocean side of the lower Cape, was described in great detail by Thoreau in the 1800's, and today is a protected beach within the national seashore. Forty miles of pristine sandy beach, marshes, ponds, and uplands support diverse species from Orleans and Chatham to Provincetown. The Cape's Outer Beaches are worth checking out and are but a short drive or a half-day bike trip. The surf might be a bit higher and the water is a bit cooler, but the scenery is fantastic, offering glimpses of sand dunes, lighthouses, landscapes, and wild cranberry bogs. The National Seashore includes six swimming beaches, 11 self-guided nature trails, picnic areas and scenic overlooks. Some beaches (such as Marconi Beach) feature full bathhouses and changing areas. http://www.nps.gov/caco

Activities: Nearby you will find: biking, golf, fishing, whale watching, drive-in movie, flea markets, shopping, miniature golf, hiking, kayaking, Audubon Center, Rock Harbor and more...most less than 5 minutes away!

Swimming: All Town Beaches on the bay with summer water temperature 60-70 F and ice cream truck frequent visits are ideal for young children.
First Encounter Beach - 2.4 miles, 5 min drive
Herring Pond (beautiful clean freshwater pond with sandy beach and public parking) - 1.1 miles, 4 min drive, 20 min walk.

Biking: Cape Cod Rail Trail is just 0.5 mile from the house, 4 minutes by bike: http://www.capecodbikeguide.com/railtrail.asp

Hiking: Hemenway Landing (National Seashore) – 0.8 mile, 4 min drive, 15 min walk. Here begin the walking trails of the Fort Hill area, a gem of the National Seashore, such as Red Maple Swamp boardwalk, beloved of bird watchers, and several other trails.
