Our house is a garden oasis perfect for kids on a gigantic 15,000 foot lot in Mar Vista, very close to the 405 and 10 freeways as well as the beaches and sites of Venice and Santa Monica. We are fifteen minutes to LAX airport ($20 taxi), Beverly Hills, and the best surfing and hiking on the west side. Our neighborhood is a large King Palm-lined oval with easy parking and tons of gourmet coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance. If you want the proximity to the beaches without the noise, crowds, and traffic, this is a great solution.
Our house is a unique blend of antique and modern, and was completely renovated a few years ago. The gourmet kitchen has everything you would ever need (spices, utensils, you name it), and there is a complete BBQ setup with a grill and smoker outside. Adjacent to the kitchen is a large garden with fresh herbs, blackberries (summer) and vegetables. In addition to a large lawn with badminton, there is a hand-crafted two-story kids play fort with a professional climbing wall. It is perfect for families who want a central location in L.A., or have kids who want a lot of outdoor space to play.
