Why the Owner Chose Houghton Lake
We bought the vacation home because we were always looking for a place large enough to accommodate our family vacations. When we had the opportunity to buy Gardale Retreat we knew that other families would enjoy vacationing here too. It is the perfect size and location for a family vacation.
The Unique Benefits of this House
When you rent all three units you will enjoy the privacy that a family vacation can bring. You feel like you will own the lake. Great for large parties, group outings, multi-family get-a-ways or family reunions.

we rented cabin 2 Aug 14 to 21 of 2011. I thought that I was getting cabin 1 but they are identical so no big deal. The cabin had 2 nice queen size beds with nice sheets. The third bedroom had a set of bunk beds which were fine as they gave the room lots of space for a pack in play. The cabin was clean and had nice windows and screen to let in air. The bedrooms also had small fans for circulation. The cabin did not have a washer and dryer as stated in the add. This was a problem as I only had clothes for 4 days and the towels needed washed up. The owner said he would give me the code to the house on Wednesday as it was not cleaned and I could not use the washer and dryer. This was not true as the house was cleaned and the washer and dryer were in an other area from the main house. You could look through the window and the cleaning service was there on Monday using the washer. The cabin had only 4 plates and 2 small Perri knives. There were not any pots to boil water in. There were 2 skillets and a blender to use for a pitcher. The house keeper did get me a few pots from cabin 1 and a large knife. If you wanted to cook or have anyone over for dinner this is not the cabin for you. I realized after that the cabin is used to sleep in and the main house for cooking and washing. The bathroom has a small shower and is small. The owner did call me on Friday to give me the code to use the washer but by this time I had gone to town to use the laundry mat. The pontoon was not working either. The add has since been corrected and this should help all who rent.

We vacationed at the Gardale Retreat in November. It was amazing. The house was very warm and cozy and large enough for everyone to move around and have quiet time to themselves. On the warmer days we enjoyed sitting by the water, feeding the ducks and watching a beautiful sunset over Houghton Lake. The house has everything you need. Games, a gas grill, and even satellite television to help get the kids to bed! If you are trying to decide on a trustworthy and quality place to vacation then look no further than Gardale. You won’t be disappointed!!!

Each year before our busy season at work, we do a co-workers girl’s weekend. I have chosen different places in the state so that we get a new view of this wonderful state that we live in. I just want to say that we hit the jackpot when I chose to stay at Gardale Retreat. When you choose a place, site unseen, you never know what you are going to receive. When I first opened the house door, the first word that came to mind was CHARM. There was plenty of space for everyone and we had everything we needed. Sitting by the bonfire at night just put a cap on a wonderful day that was spent soaking up the sun by the lake that is suitable for children from 1 to 120. Everyone has already agreed that this is the place that we plan to rent again.

June 2009 "We rented the house along with both cottages, and our family consists of 16 people and 1 infant. The house and the cottages were very clean and by renting all three we had 10 bedrooms and 4 ½ bathrooms. There was plenty of room in the main house to do all the cooking and it was large enough to accommodate all of us for our meals. Dale, the owner, was very friendly and kind. He called during the week to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. There were plenty of things to keep everyone entertained for the week - included in the rental - such as a pontoon boat, water trampoline and canoe. In the garage, there is a ping-pong table, foosball and dart board. The last night we were sitting around the campfire and everyone agreed we want to come back next year. It was unanimous we had a wonderful vacation where we made a lot of great memories."
