A Host of Attractions
Chrisanns Beach Resort is two hours away from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. The resort is just steps away from some of Ocho Rios's finest attractions. Across the street are Glenns Restaurant, Tower Jerk Center, Toscanini's Italian Restaurant, and Harmony Hall Gallery, an exquisite old mansion where you can view art by Jamaica's finest artists. Harmony Hall is also a Jamaican National Heritage site. If you want to cook for yourself, there's a well stocked grocery store right across the street, and a weekly farmers' market just down the road with a wide variety of fresh Jamaican fruits and vegetables.
In Ocho Rios, you can shop for souvenirs, duty free jewelry and other goodies at the Island Village plaza. Relax at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville Restaurant and Lounge, right on the beach at Island Village. You can visit museums such as the Reggae Museum in Island Village, and the world-famous Dunns River Falls and Park.
Ocho Rios has many restaurants: Italian, Chinese, international, Indian, and Jamaican. Every June, the town hosts a local jazz festival that brings together jazz musicians from across the island.
You'll find other attractions in Ocho Rios like Dolphin Cove, where you can swim with these friendly creatures, and Mystic Mountain for an awesome eco-tourism experience, complete with canopy bridges and bungee rides above a tropical rain forest. Tour a working citrus plantation at the Prospect Plantation Tour, or go kayaking down the White River, or go mountain biking on trails nearby.
Ocho Rios is also one of the few resorts where you can visit authentic Jamaican towns, such as St. Ann's Bay, the birthplace of Marcus Garvey and Brown's Town, a major market town on the North Coast. Just 45 minutes from Chrisanns is the birthplace of Bob Marley: Nine Miles, where you can visit his mausoleum and museum. St. Ann's Bay is just beside New Seville, the site where Christopher Columbus first landed in Jamaica. Here you can visit a historical museum and ruins of early Spanish settlements dating back to the 15th century.
Chrisanns Beach Resort is just an hour's drive away from Firefly, the home of Sir Noel Coward. Firefly is now a museum, and another National Heritage site. Forty five minutes away is Golden Eye, the former home of Ian Fleming, where he wrote his James Bond novels.
If you feel adventurous, you can rent a car right across the street. Rent a car and drive to Portland and visit Navy Island, where Errol Flynn once lived. There's a tour desk and car rental information in the reception area where you can make your sightseeing plans.

My Experience at Chrisanns
My Experience at Chrisanns
Our Experience at Chrisanns Beach Resort was overall very favorable! we chose Chrisanns because we wanted a quiet place to stay that was on the beach, clean and safe. We also wanted our own cooking facilities. The unit was very comfortable and clean. the bed was wonderful!!! I slept like a baby!!! The staff was very courteous and helpful of our needs. The only drawback was the lack of Wifi in the unit, we had to go to the lobby to get internet service, but I was told about this when I booked the Unit. I would definitely go back!!!

Owner response: Thanks for your great feedback Sean. Glad to hear you had a good time. You'll be happy to hear that I have WiFi inside my condo and on my balcony now, so hurry and come back! I'll pass on your kind compliments to the Chrisanns staff. They're a great team. Regards, Marian
Lovely Condo...but local problems are an issue.
Lovely Condo...but local problems are an issue.
This condo and resort are very pretty, the unit is well stocked, and resort staff are very friendly. The pictures listed represent this condo well and we really loved the house-keeping staff! The resort is well secured and a guard does watch the gate and lot - though friends of ours had something taken from their rental car (unlocked). The AC works very well in the condo, the equipment all works except that the remote for the DVD is broken and needs to be replaced. The weather was beautiful and the resort grounds were immaculately maintained by staff. And taking advantage of the rental cell phone was a big help during our stay. However during our 8 day stay, the water was out one day, the power off for another day, and the internet only worked 1 day out of our entire stay. The Chrisanns resort internet also was very difficult to access meaning that we and other guests had to grab an internet signal from Glens Restaurant across the road even though we advised staff of these issues. After pre-booking them, the bus company Tropical Tours suddenly refused to come pick us up at Chrisanns to take us back to the airport so we had to take a taxi in to town to catch their bus. Since renting a car is problematic for those of us used to driving on the right side of the road (our friends got in an accident), I would recommend that people renting this suite plan their entire stay out with excursions before hand so that you don't end up with "cabin fever." Staying at the condo is no problem though since the grocery/liquor store and Glens Restaurant are right across the street, the pool is nice, and the ocean is just a few steps further away. I did swim out to the ocean and snorkled every day and saw fish of all types, colors, and sizes. Entrance to the ocean is dicey though when you have to swim through the rock barrier. Taxi prices were high and all service type people outside the condo are demanding tips. We took a trip to Glistening Waters (amazing by the way) and the negotiated taxi fair with tip came to 120 US$ - and I am not sure there is a way around those prices. The grocery store is well stocked but does not have a lot of fresh vegetables - yet it does provide a currency exchange service from US$ to Jamaican. ATM is a taxi ride away - so bring a lot of cash remembering that the exchange rate is 90 or 100$ Jamaican to every 1$ USD. So while Jamaica is lovely and Chrisanns is a pretty & sweet little resort, we are not sure we would come back.

Owner response: Dear Isabelle: Thanks so much for your detailed review. Thanks for your compliments about the Chrisanns’ staff, and I‘ll be sure to pass on your kind words to them. I’m glad you were comfortable in my condo, and I’ll be sure to get a new DVD remote. The WiFi inside my apartment has been an ongoing problem, and despite repeated repairs, the signal still isn’t working continually. The WiFi dealer says the local topography keeps interfering with the signal, so the best thing is to access WiFi in the entry lobby. Jamaica is a developing country and the power and water supply do go off from time to time, but these outages only last for a few hours. Some locals do hustle visitors in the resort areas, so you have to keep your wits about you when walking around the local towns. And Jamaica can be expensive in terms of taxis and some attractions if you’re on a tight budget. However the US$120 you paid for your taxi trip to Glistening Waters in Trelawney was the right price, as a taxi excursion to Bob Marley’s birthplace and mausoleum which is much nearer to Chrisanns than Glistening Waters is US$100. Thanks as well for your feedback about your difficulty with Tropical Tours. I’ll be contacting other bus companies as alternatives. Hope you’ll consider coming back to Jamaica. The peace and laid back vibe of Chrisanns will always be waiting for you! Regards, Marian
Marian, I had a wonderful 18 day stay at your beautiful place and will definitely be back again! Chrisanns was like my own little piece of paradise, the staff was wonderful, the sun was shining, the water was crystal clear and the villa was everything I needed. Everything was perfect and it was quiet but also close to all the action. I visited several farmers markets, local bars and restaurants and even went to a few street parties! Had an awesome time and would recommend to anyone thinking of staying here. Thanks again for all the great info you provided and the rental phone, it came in very handy and I saved a whole lot of cash by not using my own cell phone. I would defintely recommend your place to anyone looking to avoid the masses at an AI and who want to experience the local culture. Thanks again Marian, I had a wonderful time.

Marian, just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed staying at your condo. What a lovely place you have. Our two weeks (December 18/12 thru January 1/13) went by too quickly. We so enjoyed the wonderful Jamaican people, the management and staff at Chrissans were so friendly and helpful. The food and beaches were fantastic - loved the Jerk chicken! The weather could not have been better. Thank you Marian also for all your helpful tips on restaurants and where to go. We will certainly go back to Jamaica in the near future. Quiet Beach-side a Plus
Quiet Beach-side a Plus
We traveled to Jamaica at the end of July 2012 for just over a week after having researched several destinations including Montego Bay, Negril, and Ocho Rios. While our research pointed to Negril, we opted for Ocho Rios on the basis of additional on-the-ground advice by our extended family that live in Jamaica. We also decided that a more intimate resort located on the beach would be preferable to a large all-inclusive however, we soon discovered that the activities that we understood would be abundantly available were only to be found at the much larger all-inclusive resorts. We tend to agree with some aspects of previous reviews that distinguish between expectations of the term “resort” versus what we might describe as an apartment complex. Chrisann’s Beach Resort is definitely the latter. The sea views were very nice and the breeze welcomed; however, the “beach” aspect of the property was not what we had envisioned. While it was great that it was private and that there was a breaker, we had anticipated that we might enjoy evening strolls along the beach. We stayed in unit # 10 and found it to be nice, although if you plan to lounge, the sofa is very compact and requires some horizontal gymnastics to maneuver with two people! The kitchen, while a bit constrained, was reasonably well-stocked with utensils. The loft layout was nice and we are sure that we must have had the most effective a/c in the complex! One just needs to be very careful descending the stairs because the tread depths are shallow and there are a couple of generous risers that may surprise you at the bottom of the stair, so just as a note of caution – take care in this area. The bed was spacious and comfortable however the dressers were locked and there was no place to hang one’s clothes, so we really did feel as though we were “living out of a suit case”! The staff were very kind and helpful. Of particular help to us was having the owner of the condo offer detailed insights and tips well in advance of our stay. Thanks Marian!! We hired a well-known taxi driver – Kevin – he was fantastic! We then used him for all of our “custom” travel needs. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to relocate to unit # 22 for the last two nights of our stay. Our move to this unit left us very disappointed – it really ought to be upgraded – sure unit # 24 is quite special, but some units fall well below that threshold.

Owner response: Dear Murray Thanks so much for your very comprehensive review! I really appreciate the tome you took to give me such useful feedback. I’d like to respond to your points for your benefit and that of future guests: Beach: Chrisanns’s private beach is small, as we’re located between two other beachfront properties. So no long walks on the beach, sorry! But Reggae Beach is next door to us. It’s much bigger and private too. The benefit with Chrisanns beach though is that it’s private and peaceful. Sofa: I removed two bulky back cushions and the sofa is much more comfortable now. I found it too bulky myself. Kitchen: I added an electric can opener, as the manual ones rust quickly as the condo is by the sea. I also got an electric kettle, which heats water faster than the stove or microwave. I keep adding or replacing appliances as needed. Staircase: The treads are steep, especially if you have young kids. I plan to modify the angle of the stairs by next summer so they won’t be so steep. Bedroom dresser: The top drawer is locked but the other two are open. The wood tends to expand in he sea air so I’m having the drawers planed to making it easier to open them. Clothing storage: There’s a wooden rack on the bedroom wall to hang clothes but I’ll install another one. There’s also a closet downstairs in the living room, but you’re right, if you want privacy to dress in the bedroom, I need to put in more hanging space. Other apartments: Each one is owned by different people so interiors and amenities vary. I agree that Apt 24 is very beautiful, and right by the beach. Thanks again for all your comments and I look forward to hosting you and your family again soon. Best, Marian
Our 3rd stay at Chrisanns
Our 3rd stay at Chrisanns
We are Merrick and Malika from Paris. We came back to Chrisanns for the 3rd time because it's a place where you can be at peace. Surroundings are idyllic. The view from the reception is just breathtaking, the sea is awesome. the garden is full of coconut trees, palm trees, and other wonderful tropical vegetation like aloe vera. When you're sat on the gazebo, you have a complete view of the caribbean sea and the coast line. The staff are very nice and helpful. The resort is well maintained : the pool and the sea are clean, the garden also. Regarding the apartment, it's beautiful, colourful, and clean. Everything is there to make sure you have a wonderful stay. Actually, you feel like you're at home with the added bonus of the sun and the sea. We would recommend a stay at Chrisanns apartment 10 to anyone who's looking for a little piece of paradise.

Marian, We really enjoyed our stay at your home. The caribbean styled decor was an especially nice touch. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. We were disappointed that we were not able to walk along the beach at Chrisanns but we did enjoy our time at the pool and sitting by the sea. The food at Glenn's restaurant was delicious. We would certainly recommend you home to future vacationers.

Owner response: Thanks for the review Arleta: Chrisanns has its own private beach and is located between two other properties with their own private beaches as well. All the properties have built sea walls with gazebos at the end, so it's not possible to walk from one beach to another. However, our visitors still enjoy Chrisanns' private beach because there are no vendors or hustlers coming onto the beach to disturb our guests. It also makes for more privacy and better security for our guests. Thanks again for your support. Marian
Quaint Cottage in Jamaica
Quaint Cottage in Jamaica
Our family of five (kids aged 2, 4 and 6) stayed in this lovely, quaint unit in February 2012. Check-in was smooth – the housekeeper Charmaine was literally waiting at the front desk with the key. We found the unit to be clean and comfortable. It was fully equipped with all the necessities – French press coffee maker, kettle, scissors, pots, pans and even plastic dishes for the kids. It felt like we were borrowing someone’s cottage in Jamaica for a week! The fridge worked well and froze our kids’ freezies and ice very quickly! While there was a pull-out couch, we all slept together in the bed upstairs. The kids enjoyed the beach toys, pool noodles and flutter boards. We had brought our own snorkel equipment, but Marion had provided some in the unit, as well. The air conditioner works very well, but we rarely needed to use it. We would often run it for 30 minutes before bed to bring the temperature down, and then sleep with only a fan. The wireless internet in the unit did not work for us – there may have been a problem with the router. However, we took it as a message that we needed to detach from home! We were able to connect to the wireless signal in the lobby with no problems. One caution for having young children in this unit is that the stairs in the unit are indeed steep and narrow. I would recommend the unit to kids aged 4 and over for this reason. We had to keep a close eye on our inquisitive, wandering 2-year-old! For food, we stocked up at the local Petcom grocery store. We rarely cooked in the unit, but purchased most of our meals at Glenn’s restaurant across the street. We ate one or two meals from the Jerk Centre, but didn’t enjoy it as much as Glenn’s. When we ran out of items, we also purchased some things from the small supermarket across the street. For transportation, we used the licensed red plate taxis. Trips into Ocho Rios were a standard $100 JMD per adult (kids were free). It was a great adventure for our kids who are used to being strapped into car seats! Trips home varied in price, but we soon learned that we needed to stand by the big clock in downtown Ochi to catch drivers who were responsible for the Oracabessa route that leads back to Chrisann’s. We truly enjoyed our stay. We didn’t notice any bugs and the resort was extremely quiet. The only thing missing from this unit is a direct view of the sea while inside. However, being just steps from the water made our stay truly worthwhile. Thanks!

Owner response: Dear Bob and Lisa: Thanks so much for your very detailed and factual review. And thanks for all your kind words! Sorry the WiFi inside my apartment didn't work. What usually helps is to plug out the router, wait a few seconds and plug it back in again. Thanks for letting me know as I'm only in my apartment in January and July so I don't always hear about these problems unless guests let me know. There is an ongoing problem with WiFi in this area though, and sometimes the reception lobby signal trips out too. Thanks as well for the feedback about the need to be careful with very young kids on the staircase. I'll let other guests know about this. I truly appreciate your taking the time to write such an informative review. Glad to hear you had a good time, and I look forward to hosting all of you again soon. Best wishes, Marian

About the owner: I was born and grew up in Jamaica, just 30 miles away from Chrisanns Beach Resort. My childhood memories are filled with visits to the beaches on Jamaica's north coast. I've been living in New York City since 1998, working in public relations in the non profit sector, and more recently, as a college instructor. I also make jewelry and quilts, and sell these at craft fairs around New York City. I visit Jamaica several times each year and spend part of my vacations at the beach while I'm there. My condo at no. 10 Chrisanns Beach Resort is now my creative retreat from the hustle and bustle of New York City. I plan to spend more time painting the breathtaking scenery around the north coast, using this beachfront condo as my base.
Why the Owner Chose Ocho Rios:
This location is very convenient for many activities. Chrisanns Beach Resort is an ideal haven if you want to get away from the big resort hotels, and enjoy the calmer, more mellow side of Jamaica. I love the beach, and Chrisanns has its own private cove where you can swim in the sheltered area, or venture further out to the deeper sections of the sea. The countryside sorrounding Chrisanns Beach Resort has some of the most breathtakingly beautiful vegetation, beaches and rivers on Jamaica's north coast. Chrisanns Beach Resort is also near to many atttractions, and is an easy 45 minute ride from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, along a newly built highway that has awesome views of the Caribbean sea.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
The sunsets from the beach are to die for. The breezes that you'll experience if you're on the beach or out in the gazebo overlooking the sea are calming and refreshing. When you're sitting on the balcony of no. 10, you can see the sea, and hear the waves all day and night. Having a housekeeper who can cook for you is a real benefit, as she can prepare Jamaican dishes if you wish. Glenn's Restaurant, just across the street, offers Jamaican and international dishes. There's a Glenn's menu at the front desk, so you can call them and ask them to deliver right to your condo. Your condo has access to a wide variety of cable channels, and you can also borrow a range of current DVDs from the resort manager's office, at no charge, and watch these on a DVD in the condo. It's like having Netflix without the fees. If you can't do without the Internet, no worries, as the complex has both wireless and high speed plug in Web access.
