Location: Marble, Northwest, Colorado, USA (Aspen-60 Min; Glenwood Springs-45 Min; Carbondale-30 Min)

Accommodations:  Cabin Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Attached Unit, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-6)

The Marble Outpost in Marble, Colorado, is an ideal vacation destination for people looking to unplug and relax in a quiet, beautiful, scenic Colorado setting. The upstairs apartment has two sleeping rooms (one queen and one bunk-bed), a kitchen, living area, and bath, vaulted ceilings and warm wood accents. The unit is one of four in a lodge that looks like a mountain log cabin, and it has its own separate entrance, kitchen, and bath. Balconies are spacious and views are outstanding. The kitchen is fully equipped; beds are log frames with handmade quilts. It's perfect for a family of four. Three other units are available for larger groups.

Marble is a unique little town. In the winter, it's home to 85 souls, while in the summer the population swells to 200. It's funky and interesting, as the Marble sculptors' symposium cranks up and you can mosey on down to watch the carvers working on their blocks of white stone. The quarry is still in full operation, producing large blocks of pristine white marble, and the historic buildings in town are fun to visit. Down the road a mile from town, the airstrip is home to an annual fly-in for bush pilots that like to fly into mountain destinations. The town isn't ruined by a bunch of ski condos, roundabouts, and traffic lights--it's pretty laid-back.

However, Marble is only an hour from Aspen, so if you're into concerts and night life, you can sure find it there. Glenwood Springs, with spelunking, caving, whitewater rafting, and the hot springs pool, is only 45 minutes away, and Carbondale, with several championship golf courses, is only half an hour. Of course, the charming little village of Redstone is a mere 15 minutes away.

Marble is a recreational paradise. The town is framed on the south by the Raggeds Wilderness and on the north by the Maroon Bells/Snowmass Wilderness, and all the recreation activities associated with Colorado mountains are right there in Marble. In the summer, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and canoeing are all found in Marble; Beaver Lake is right on the edge of town, and offers excellent canoeing and pretty good fishing. Fly-fishing on the nearby Crystal River and on the various high-country creeks can be excellent. Hunting for elk and mule deer in the surrounding mountains is great. There are several challenging jeep trails in the surrounding mountains, and the Lead King Loop offers a great 4x4 tour into the high country. Ice climbing, back-country skiing, ice skating, cross-country skiing, and sledding complete the winter sports offerings. Call us for more information! We know Marble inside and out.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2000

Our family has been exploring the Marble area since the 1970's, and we love the scenic beauty and relaxed atmosphere. It's like Colorado used to be, before the clutter of the ski areas and overdeveloped mountain valleys. We enjoy the wide range of Marble-area activities: horseback riding, fly-fishing, elk hunting, mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking, cross-country and backcountry skiing, the marble sculptors' seminar, or even just playing basketball in the town park. We used to be the wilderness outfitters in Marble, offering guided horseback rides, fly-fishing trips, and overnight pack trips, so we know the area very, very well. You'll have fun staying at the Marble Outpost! We keep it neat and clean, and you'll be surprised at how nice the units are. They're very comfortable. Wildlife abounds in the Marble area. This winter an entire herd of elk wintered within 50 yards of our lodge.

Why the Owner Chose Marble

We were the wilderness outfitters in Marble, and we bought the property for wrangler housing. Our crew used to live in the downstairs, while our guests enjoyed the two upstairs apartments. Since then, we have completely remodeled the downstairs, installing a solid maple wood floor, a second kitchen, a full bath, and a bedroom so we made two really nice guest apartments downstairs as well.

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin Condo

The Marble Marble sculptors' seminar is right across the street, so you can wander on down and watch the marble carvers doing their thing. It's fascinating. The Crystal River is only about 200 yards away, and there's plenty of public access for fly-fishing. We often have deer and elk walking right through the property. In fact, a big doe likes to bed down in the shade underneath the back balcony! In the winter, the views are breathtaking, with the avalanche chute across the way sometimes filling up with a big snow-slide. This place is in the real mountains, and the views are spectacular, yet the atmosphere is homey and small-town. Marble is a great place for winter fun. The town makes an ice skating rink at the old marble mill site, and it's a great place to skate outdoors or enjoy a game of pickup hockey. You can sled down the quarry road, and with proper precautions, the run is up to 1.5 miles long! Backcountry skiers are starting to explore the mountains around Marble in an effort to "earn their turns" by hiking up and then skiing down untouched lines of powder. Elk hunting, mule deer hunting, and fly-fishing are all good in the surrounding backcountry, and life is slow-paced and fun.
