Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2008

After 25 years as a professional archaologist, I decided to change my focus and concentrate on consulting and other activities using the Internet. This change freed me from the need to stay in Minnesota and I began looking for another home where I could work and also enjoy a more relaxed and people-based lifestyle. El Valle was the place I chose and I have not regretted it. I currently spend half my time in Minnesota and half in El Valle - but hopefully will be able to move full time to El Valle in the future.

Why the Owner Chose El Valle de Anton (Crater Valley)

As an archaeologist I had the chance to travel widely and was familiar with west Africa, Turkey, Italy, and other countries. When I decided to buy property overseas, I visited Argentina and subsequently Panama. The next to the last day on my first Panama trip, I decided to run up to El Valle and see what it was like. We stopped by the road overlooking El Valle and I immediately fell in love - somehow I knew that this special and mystical place was for me. I came back several months later to look at property (not intending to buy, just look)and found a lot that was exactly what I wanted - river frontage, beautiful views of the mountains, and plenty of room for a wonderful garden. My friends at Park Eden B&B encouraged me to make an offer and - it was accepted! The rest is history <s>.

The Unique Benefits of this House

My favorite thing to do at my house is sit on the terrace and just listen to the river and watch the mountains, especially Cerro Gaital. The birds are coming more and more to the property as we plant things, and I enjoy watching them play and carry on in the yard in front of the terrace as well. At night - the moon traverses the windows inside the house and particularly during full moon is really beautiful. And of course - I love having my friends over for batido's or fresh baked bread and coffee on the terraza!

    • One of our best vacation homes ever! My husband and I spent three months in Panama, and we encountered many sub-par rentals that were nothing like their descriptions. This new, custom built, lovely home was the exception, with quality materials used throughout the home. The rooms are huge and inviting, the terrace is ideal for sitting outside, and the creek out back was where I spent many hours, just watching geese, ducks, "Jesus" amphibians, and, of course, the water. The gourmet kitchen is ideal for the serious cook, with excellent quality dishes, utensils, pans, and small appliances. Everything we wanted or needed was there. The market sells fresh fruit and vegetables, and we "ate in" most of the time. In the master bedroom suite our bed was divine, the bathroom spacious, with a huge window looking out into the back yard. In fact, huge windows were in every room, and because of the mild weather, we never used the AC; we just opened the windows and let the breeze fill the house with fresh air. The landscaping is as beautiful as any park, and just walking around the grounds and observing all the trees, shrubs, and plants was a pleasant experience. The neighbor's chickens paid us a daily visit, as did many birds. The property is fenced and gated, but we enjoyed seeing the Panamanian neighbors going about their daily lives, and we were never fearful during our entire stay in El Valle. Because this home and its furnishings are of the highest quality throughout, I would not recommend it for the vacationer who simply wants to "take it easy, put their feet up, and relax" and not worry about leaving a stain on the table, or banging into the walls with luggage, or washing and storing the kitchen knives properly, etc. It would not be a good home to "kick back" in. But for the descerning guest who is happy to treat this home as they would their own, you will never find one better than this! We had to check out earlier than we wanted because the owner was arriving, so we had the good fortune to meet him and hear about his experiences building a house in Panama!
