A truly wonderful place!

Guest: Carol (Seattle, WA)
Date of Stay: 05/16/12 Review Submitted: 05/23/12

This apartment rates superlatives. The bedroom is spacious and comfortable, with a lovely view to the lush garden below. Bathroom is large and light, with a great shower. But what sets the place apart is the wonderful living room and office area. You can relax and look out at the trees above the street -- A great place to just sit and read after a busy day in the city. We loved the neighborhood -- lots of restaurants, Prospect Park, the Botanic Garden, and museum nearby. Margaret is friendly and responsive to inquiries, overall very nice to deal with. My husband and I stayed three nights (would have loved to stay more, but it was booked), and will definitely book here again on trips to NY.

We've just returned home after spending five days in New York attending our daughter's wedding. We've visited Park Slope many times, but this was our first time staying at this property. And now there's no reason to go anywhere else! The location is perfect--convenient to so many shops, restaurants, Prospect Park, easy subway access--the list goes on and on. The apartment is comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean. The hosts are friendly and helpful. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

What you get is a lot more than what you see in the photos. We are frequent VRBO renters and this one was one of the finest. Very spacious rooms, immaculately clean, high quality furnishings, great Park Slope location. Best of all, the price was all inclusive (taxes, cleaning fees, etc) and a great value.

Charming Accomodations

Guest: Kat (Naperville, IL, USA)
Date of Stay: 11/29/11 Review Submitted: 12/06/11

We had a delightful 6-day stay at this lovely Brownstone apartment. It was extremely comfortable, clean, private and quiet. It is beautifully decorated with old world charm. The owner was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. This pleasant neighborhood has abundant restaurants offering delicious American and ethnic menus, and also grocery stores, shops and bars. We walked to Prospect Park and the beautiful Botanical Gardens. The subway is within reasonable walking distance and we travelled into Manhattan daily to see Broadway shows and peruse the wonderful museums. I would highly recommend this apartment for anyone looking for a city stay in a quiet and charming neighborhood for a reasonable price.

We stayed in this charming apartment for 4 nights. Lovely antique furnishings, comfortable and very spacious for two people. It's a short walk to great restaurants (on 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue), an independent bookstore, and gorgeous Prospect Park. The owners are friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended!

We stayed here for 5 nights during the big snowstorm just prior to Halloween. All around a suburb experience. We've stayed in many VRBO properties and this apartment was amazing. Well loved, clean, unique and tasteful, walking distance to great restaurants, and a 15 min. subway to Manhattan. Park Slope was a great surprise--so much to see and do within just a few blocks.

Heartfelt thanks to owners. Wanted to walk Brklyn Brdge & decided to make this our base for a short, 3 ngt stay vs. NYC. Prev reviewer explained so well by saying owners generous in trusting visitors among nice antiques, furnt & all sorts of pictures, books & artful objects. Felt like immediate residents just for having stayed here & in exploring area. Plenty of brochures for siteseeing/rest/local info. Lots of archt details, cool sky lights, pretty backyd views from bdrm thanks to owner's love of gardening & shady tree lined st from livg rm windws. Bed & linens exc! Rarely sleep in & made myself 1 morning just to enjoy the comfort. Bathrm even better in person; spotless, bright & rainfall showerhead (yipee). Clearly not just a space to rent but thoughful & special place who's owners are kind & friendly. Private entry up front stoop as seen in photo & continue up entry hall staircase to apt. Great privacy while help is only a doorbell away if needed. Arrivd Sat morn b4 check-in so dropped off bags & caught Park Slope in full swing: flea mkt on corner @ 6th Ave schoolyard, stoop sales along sidewalks on way to Prospect Pk where farmer's mkt fans out across Grand Army Plaza in front of Bklyn Pub Library (worth a quick pop-in) 5th & 7th Ave's busy w/ shoppers & families strolling w/ dogs & kids of all sizes on razor scooters navigating sidewalks like pros! Pizza at Two Boots just east of apt on 2nd St. exc, inexp & obvious local fav. Quick stop at Key Foods on 7th Ave & ran smack dab into Wafel & Dinges truck (known in NYC as best Belgian waffles & now frequenting Park Slope) & neighbrhd game of stick ball going on as crowd was gathered on church steps. After watching grown men dodge traffic to make a catch (yikes!) & a peek inside church, finally made our way to apt to rest & freshen up. Though NY had a humidity streak while we were there, A/C units & ceiling fans quickly cooled apt. Spacious & quiet refuge for lounging in the A.M. & after long days. Felt perfectly safe at all hours. 5th & 7th Aves loaded w/ restaurants. Had awesome meals at JPan (sushi & to-die-for udon noodles) & Moutarde (casual french). 10-15 min walk to UNION subway stop at President St. & 4th Ave. The R Line goes direct to South Station (Staten Island Ferry for views of Statue of LIberty). Easy transfers to other areas like DUMBO/Brklyn Heights & anywhere in NYC. Ironically never did walk the Brklyn Bridge but there's always next time. Can't say enough good things @ owners & property!

So nice to come home to...

Guest: Gloria & John (Gold Beach, OR)
Date of Stay: 08/31/11 Review Submitted: 09/09/11

This lovely apartment exceeded our expectations. We came to NY for a week to attend our nephew's Park Slope wedding and to sample life in the big city. Being small town folks, we're used to a slow pace of life and, after each day's excitement in the city, we loved coming back to the serenity and graciousness of this rental so we could get recharged for the next day. The apartment is beautiful and tastefully furnished. The bed was very comfortable and we both slept well. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and, at the same time, unobtrusive. The neighborhood is quiet and feels very safe. We were close to our nephew's home and the wedding events as well as unlimited wonderful restaurants, transit stops, coffee shops, markets, post office, Prospect Park, museums, gardens, etc., etc., etc. Many thanks to our hosts for sharing their lovely home with us...

Perfect Park Slope Visit

Date of Stay: 08/25/11 Review Submitted: 09/01/11

We can't imagine a nicer place to have spent our Irene-extended holiday. We love Park Slope but the location of the apartment coupled with a subway shutdown due to Irene forced us to explore the area even more and we were not disappointed. The number of restaurants and diners within easy walking distance provided us with a difficult choice to make each time we ate out. Prospect Park and the Botanical Gardens are a great way to spend a quiet afternoon. And the apartment is wonderful. Margaret made us feel right at home. The apartment is nicely decorated, very clean, and so comfortable. We definately plan to return and have already recommended it to friends.

Fabulous apartment

Guest: JJB (Southwest U.S.)
Date of Stay: 08/11/11 Review Submitted: 08/15/11

We often stay in this area to visit family, and this apartment is head and shoulders above the hotels in the area, and even the very best and most elegant of the b&b's. It is in a perfect location, close to transportation, shopping, restaurants and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Museum of Art, and Brooklyn Academy of Music. The apartment is absolutely immaculate, and the living room is larger than it looks in the pictures. We could not have been more comfortable. My only concern in writing this review is that this property will become so popular that we will have a hard time renting it for our next visit!

Date of Stay: 07/28/11 Review Submitted: 12/09/11

My wife and I (both 63) recently stayed in this apartment for 11 nights (Jun-Jul) in order to experience Brooklyn and also spend time in Manhattan. It was our third trip to NYC in the last two years, having previously rented apartments in the East Village and Harlem. We started renting vacation apartments many years ago (Rome, Florence, Paris, Barcelona, Lucca, Perugia, Montepulciano, Venice, etc.) This is the nicest apartment we have ever rented. Gracious hosts, very spacious and clean rooms, comfortable bed, new bathroom, and most especially, fine furniture and antiques and very nice paintings, prints, decorative objects and books. You don't often see owners willing to trust their tenants with such things. Park Slope is wonderful. Many, many nearby restaurants, markets and shops. The Brooklyn Museum of Art is not to be missed. We spent two afternoons there. Access to Manhattan is painless--about 4 blocks to the subway station. Only one suggestion--a serrated knife to cut bagels would be great!

Owner response:A new serrated knife will be installed promptly! Thanks for the suggestion. New York bagels musn't be compromised.

Wonderful brownstone experience

Guest: Foxhill (Greeley, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 06/09/11 Review Submitted: 06/18/11

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, wanting to sample a historic Brownstone in Brooklyn. We occupied the top floor which included spacious rooms. The apartment is very clean with all expected amenities. Queen bed was extremely comfortable. The quiet neighborhood is multi-cultural and family oriented with an elementary school nearby. We were a short walk away from an array of shops and great restaurants too numerous to count. Plus easy access to the subway for sightseeing in other parts of the city. The fabulous Prospect Park is close as well. We did experience a brief heat wave where the two window air conditioners struggled to keep the rooms bearable. Once the weather cooled off, we were quite comfortable, however. There are some steep stairs to climb, which was not a problem for us but might be for others. All in all, a very positive experience.

Guest: stern78chen (Berlin)
Date of Stay: 03/25/11 Review Submitted: 04/08/11

I had a fantastic time spending 8 nights in the apartment, located directly between 5th and 7th! I would definitely chose the same place when visiting again! The bedroom is beautiful, the bathroom of highest standard and people most friendly. The kitchenette offers a toaster, coffee machine, microwave, and fridge and the living area was very cosy and decorated lovely! The 5th star is missing because they had temporarily a weak wifi signal in the apartment which made it difficult for me to work (it was a business trip). But I am sure this problem will be /is solved. Go and visit the place! It is a fantastic base to explore Brooklyn!

Owner response:The wifi is indeed up and running again. Time Warner took their time to come out and fix the problem, as usual, but everything is fine now.

What a pleasant experience! We spent 5 nights here. It's convenient to many restaurants and a short walk to the Metro. Lots of extra niceties: like a choice of bed pillows, many, many towels, a lovely place to sit and read, etc. We will only make our next New York trip fit with the availability of this VRBO.

We have used vrbo many times over the last 2 years and this Park Slope treasure is our favorite. The location to shopping and restaurants on 5th and 7th Ave and to the train cannot be topped. Character abounds in this lovely home and I only wish the winter weather had permitted me to explore the "secret garden." My fingers are crossed the apartment will be available for our next Brooklyn visit.

We just returned from our visit to Brooklyn and couldn't have been happier with our apartment. The apartment was even more beautiful than the website could demonstrate. All of the comforts of home, huge bathroom with heated tile flooring, comfortable beds, and a perfect, quiet location! Margaret was extremely helpful and provides lots of information about area restaurants and shops which are plentiful in this area of Brooklyn. We would recommend this apartment to anyone, and will definitely return in the future as we will be frequent visitors to Brooklyn. Thanks Margaret!

This was an excellent location from which to visit NYC: beautiful brownstones and close to excellent restaurants, stores, subway; overall a very nice neighborhood. We walked back from the subway after midnight and felt very safe. Prospect Park is a well-kept secret to travelers; we enjoyed more than Central Park! Next time we may spend more time in Brooklyn than Manhattan. The owner is very accommodating and helpful with even the smallest details. Everything was exactly as in photos; the space is very clean and has added amenities of a small kitchen area and reading room. There is a lot of light and space. We definitely hope to return and stay again!

Our 2 night stay was wonderful. The property is as nice as the pictures depict. The location is excellent, and the neighborhood is quite safe. It's a short walk to good restaurants and the subway into Manhattan. Parking is tight, but if you are patient, you'll find a spot. Also, there is a paid garage on Union Street, several blocks away.

This property is wonderful! Beautiful located in a typical red stone house, lovely restored with old funiture and nice pieces of art. Absolutly quiet with a view on a cherry tree but the ripple of a fountain. A pure paradise after a trip through Manhattan. The bed is new and very comfortable, the bathroom perfect and when you cook your coffee in the morning, you feel like this is your place. Park Slope area is so nice and after a while to don't want to go to Manhattan at all! And you don't have to: Rent a bike and explore Brooklyn!

The space is upstairs and separate from the rest of the house. In fact, the owner was away while I was there and the rest of the house was closed off. Not sure if that's always true, but it worked out well. Place was quiet and area safe. Space is more like a 1 bdrm apartment, with a large living room area, with an eclectic library and a large writing desk. Bed was super comfortable. Kitchenette instead of kitchen, but owner has descriptions and details of walking distance restaurants (there are many). Thanks again Margaret for a great stay.

My wife and I stayed here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed this apartment. It is very spacious and well furnished, including a well-appointed kitchen, a very comfortable bed, WiFi and cable TV. We went to several performances in Manhattan and it was very convenient to the city--an easy walk to the subway (R Train) and then an easy ride (30-45 minutes) to the theatre district. It took between 45 minutes and an hour to get to Lincoln Center, but still a realtively quick trip. We regularly returned to the apartment around midnight and felt perfectly safe walking through the neighborhood at that time. And speaking of the neighborhood, it offers many good restaurants, coffee shops, bagel shops and bars as well as a complete grocery store and wine shop all within a couple of blocks. Margaret also has a beautiful garden with a fountain that can be heard from the bedroom--very soothing. Also 2 charming dogs. We will certainly stay here again on our next trip to NY.

I have stayed here several times over the last few years and it wouldn’t occur to me to try anything else. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, the F and R are in walking distance. But above all, the apartment is quite wonderful. The spacious bedroom with adjoining walk in closet opens to a lovely garden – all you hear at night is the fountain and you wouldn’t believe you’re in the city. The living area is nicely decorated, a functioning kitchenette and WLAN complete the picture. The landlords are courteous and so is the dog.
