If you enjoy the urban life, you’ll love spending time in this wonderfully situated apartment in the heart of Aix en Provence. If you like to be able to walk out the door and grab a newspaper, order a coffee and sit at a café watching the passers-by; if you find pleasure in museums and bustling markets where you might stumble across the occasional spontaneous street band; if you appreciate evening concerts and indulgences at a Roman spa, then this delightful apartment on the Cours Mirabeau in this quintessential Provençal town is for you. The apartment is nestled in a newly constructed complex on the Cours and yet is surprisingly quiet, as it is in fact located on the street behind and parallel to the Cours. The Cours Mirabeau is the center of the town, the main axis and its focal point. Replete with restaurants, bookstores, specialty shops and ice cream parlors, the Cours divides the quartier Mazarin from the old town. Although you’re in the heart of town, you're guaranteed quiet, privacy and an amazing night's sleep.
This charming apartment (75 sq mt) boasts an enclosed terrace with a small garden and outdoor table, a private entrance, two bedrooms (sleeps four total) with ample storage space, a living room/dining area, a totally modern kitchen, a full bathroom with tub and separate toilet. Air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter, complete with Provençal colors and plush bed linens, equipped with all modern conveniences (microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, TV/DVD player, radio/CD/stereo with iPod docking station, cable television in several languages, hair dryer, iron, free wifi connection, free telephone calls to all of Europe, the US and Canada), you'll feel like a native with all the conveniences of home. Its ideal location affords walking distance to all the boutiques and restaurants, the old town, shops and open-air markets. And if you’re thinking about exploring the nearby stunning countryside, a designated space at no extra fee in the on-site garage facilitates the parking of a car.
The Aixois like nothing better in the afternoons than to “flâner” (stroll) up and down the Cours, have a drink at a café and chat with their friends. You can join them and feel like a native by just by walking out the door. The nearby rue d’Italie is filled with shops and boutiques of all kinds, so convenient for shopping for the apartment. The Monoprix supermarket is down the street; bring the rolling cart with you to put your groceries in like everyone else in the neighborhood. You can walk to the daily marchés, as there is one every day in Aix and on some days two; there is no shortage of marvelous Provençal vegetables, flowers, and specialty products to tantalize your taste buds.
Aix-en-Provence is renowned for its music and lyric arts festival in June-July every year, and in August the nearby town of La Roque d’Antéron hosts an internationally acclaimed piano festival. During the year one can take any number of French classes for foreigners, many located within a short walk of the apartment. The state-of-the-art spa--a short 10-minute walk from the apartment--built on the authentic ruins of the former Roman spa, offers delightful cures, massages, water aerobics, and all sorts of relaxation for your aches and pains,.
Have a wonderful sojourn, however long or short, in this well-appointed apartment; it's designed to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. We'll be happy to furnish letters from satisfied guests who have offered to serve as references.

Why the Owner Chose Aix en Provence
Aix is quintessential Provence, a perfect town to hang around in on its own, or use as a focal point from which to discover the other joys of the south of France. I love the central location, the surprising quiet of the apartment, and the dedicated parking space in this town of difficult parking...
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

Owner's Map of Aix en Provence
A devoted francophile, I fell in love with France and the French at the impressionable age of 14...and have never quite recovered. For thirty+ years I've wandered around every corner of France, thrilling to each region as if it's a different country, loving the differences and regionalisms I've encountered. Provence is one of my favorite areas, and I love to share it with guests. I've put as many creature comforts into this special "chez moi" as I spend a lot of personal time there myself, and my guests have always been appreciative. You're here to enjoy yourself et vivre a la francaise! Let the party begin--que la fête commence!

We enjoyed a delightful stay- the apartment is exactly as pictured and the location can't be beat to live in old Aix. The owner was always very helpful and we highly recommend this apartment. We did rent a car and went to Avignon and the Camargues but realized that we'd rather just stay in Aix- and were sorry that we could have saved the car rental money and spent it in one of the many gorgeous clothing stores in the area. We loved the markets, bakeries and cafes. Try a citron presse and croque monsieur at Les Deux Garcons- delicious! We saved some money by getting a rotisserie chicken with potatoes and fruits at a market. I got my longed for pate de campagne at the charcuterie. The best calissons are at Bechard on the Cours just a block and a half from the apartment. One way we discovered to find great meals was to go to any establishment that was busy. You are sure to have a wonderful time here!

We have arrived safely in Aix and are ensconced in chez Sutter. With the help of gps, your instructions, and my husband's intrepid driving skills, we managed to find both the apartment and the parking garage. After we had unloaded the luggage outside the gate, I sent my son and car into the garage alone. By some miracle and male driving genes, he managed to find parking spot 24 and emerge with both the car and his nerves unscathed. He declared that the parking garage was not a house of horrors after all. It still remains to be seen whether we will ever find the car again. We are delighted with the apartment, its location, its ambience, its wide range of supplies, and most especially your comprehensive and often funny instructions. About the only thing you have omitted is how to flush the toilet. I fear that I will find the accommodations so comfortable that I will be reluctant to leave to explore other towns in Provence. Our daughter, who is a techno wizard, is delighted to have got both the wifi and the tv working. My husband, the home handyman, was pleased to find a tool kit! And I, the kitchen goddess, feel right at home with your generous supply of knives and kitchen gadgets. Really, Valerie, you have thought of everything to make your guests feel at home in a strange place. Thank you for all your thoughtfulness, Lynda S.

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing apartment with us. We absolutely love it. I just couldn't believe it when we arrived! We had a wonderful time and actually wish we were still there. The town is a magical place and the apartment was sooo convenient; I couldn’t believe how we could just walk out the front door and be in the center of town, yet the apartment itself was incredibly quiet. It was so kind of you to arrange for the crib. I left a little extra with the tip as a thank you to your friend who loaned it to us. It made a big difference! We did our best to leave things clean and tidy, replenish supplies, and to be good guests. We feel so lucky to have been able to spend some time in Aix and appreciate the way you made it happen for us last minute. We were praising you on Thanksgiving for making it happen for us.

Hello Valerie. The four of us are now back from our travels and I placed the key to your apartment in Aix in the mail to you yesterday. We very much enjoyed our travels in France and found your apartment a wonderful way to visit Aix and Provence in general. The apartment is located perfectly in Aix. We spent two full days in Aix, visiting the markets, taking the “petit train”, visiting the Granet Museum, and just generally enjoying the city, cafes, boulangeries and patisseries, etc. We had our breakfasts and often our evening meal (baguettes, cheese, fruit and wine) on your wonderful patio. The apartment was also a great location from which to take day trips out into other areas of Provence. During our stay we visited Cassis, Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence, Avignon, Pont du Gard, Apt, Rousillon, Gordes, Bonneaux, Menerbes, Oppede-le-Vieux --- a good mix of cities, sea ports as well as small Provence villages. Thank you again for your advice and review of our preliminary itinerary; we covered all the points of interest on our revised plan and enjoyed them all. We dead headed the petunias, watered the plants while we were there and left your apartment in good order. Thank you for offering it for our enjoyment. We've recommended your place to friends.

We're packing up and getting ready for our departure tomorrow morning. We have had an absolutely wonderful time here and your apartment is perfect. I've appreciated the notes you've had laminated about appliances etc. which made using the appliances very easy. We've loved your terrace/garden very much, and I've learned to get up early every morning (while it's still cool) and have breakfast outside. Also a good time to visit the wonderful local markets, and the boulangerie - We're usually gone by later afternoon - there's so much to do and see, both here and in the surrounding area (the festival at Avignon was so much fun!). I make dinner around 8 or 9 when we get back, then it's more reading or a game of cards, and then off to bed. The days have gone by much too quickly! I've enjoyed puttering around your garden -Your tree is fabulous, nicely pruned and completely lush and full - so healthy & perfect for the shade. I've really enjoyed your little gecko, on the wall under the plants on the right. Your neighbours to the left seem very nice, and we were delighted when the sounds of singing and guitar playing wafted in from next door. There were several nights where some amazing performances were going on nearby - Opera, jazz. The sound was crystal clear in your terrace - what a treat! Your place here is truly a gem. The markets and the cafe's (and sorbets) right outside the door on Cours Mirabeau are fantastic. I bought a painting of one of those fountains to remember all of this back home. Having the washing machine was great. We found all the linens we needed in your “linen closet” in the living room, a nice generous supply. The shower and bathtub are wonderful. I also appreciate the tiled floors - very easy to sweep and mop. I was very careful with your fabulous red silk curtains - I've warned my husband that I want the same curtains in my living room at home :-) We are already planning our next trip chez vous. Many thanks for a wonderful vacation. Ingrid + family of 4
