Perched on a hill overlooking Nice, historic stone farmhouse with lovely views of the Mediterranean and surrounding hills. Seated on a very old olive grove on an acre of land, the house has a very large and green private garden with numerous olive and cypress trees. Please feel free to request additional pictures.
Originally a roman watchtower, this entirely renovated "mas provencal" was built in several stages over the years. On the main floor, a spacious kitchen and dining room with a beautiful view of the sea and garden. The French doors open out to the verandah and garden shaded by century old olive trees.
The house is an ideal family vacation home, with lots of outdoor and indoor space, including a swimming pool, a swing set, fruit trees (including delicious figs in august), a ping pong table and barbecue. The garden is perfectly safe for children and the land is protected by a wall and intercom for visitors. Tennis courts are 5 minutes away and the seaside is just 15 minutes down the road. Lots of mountain hiking and climbing too.
The house is very comfortably furnished in the traditional country French style, with lovely tiles from the region throughout. For your convenience the kitchen is fully equipped with a complete range of modern appliances and all the cooking utensils, dishware, crystal and flatware you will need. Next to the kitchen, a small sitting room leads into the cozy living room, crowned by an exquisite medieval fireplace.
Upstairs in the tower are two rooms with queen-size beds. The top room has a magnificent 360° view of the surrounding hills and the water stretching past Antibes to the Esterel range in the distance. The tower has its own bathroom with shower and sink, and a separate WC.
Downstairs is the spacious master bedroom (410 square feet) with separate sitting area under a central arch, floors of unpolished marble and a large medieval fireplace which once belonged to a castle. The room has a large en-suite oriental bathroom with WC and bidet.
Next to the master bedroom are two other rooms, each with two twin beds. These two rooms are served by a separate batchroom and WC. This part of the house also has the washroom with clothes washing machine and a separate exit to the garden.
The garden is very spacious, serene and private. Lovely for dining outdoors under the olive trees, and great for children. Outdoor lighting is provided in the trees to just relax and enjoy the birds into the evening.
THE SURROUNDING AREA: Located where the Alps meet the Mediterranean, the area breathes natural beauty, history and culture. For lovers of nature, there are wonderful mountain walks, eternal snows, prehistoric rock paintings, cliff drives along the seaside and many, many beaches. Alfred Hitchcock's "To Catch a Thief" was filmed in Nice and along the ocean drives here.
The house is located within 30 minutes of Italy, Cannes, Monte Carlo Antibes, St. Paul de Vence, and many charming hill-top villages to discover and explore. Some of the superb museums in the area include the Picasso museum at Antibes, the Nice Museum of modern art (holding one of the great collections of American art of the 50s and 60s), the Chagal and Matisse museums here in Nice, the Maeght institute in Vence, and many others.
Please feel free to ask for more pictures of the interior and exterior of the house.
