Interesting places abound nearby.
Dream and evasive Cafe Alou on 83rd between Columbus and Broadway is where Tom Hanks dated Meg Ryan in You got Mail. The pastry is as luscious and decadent as the French decoration. A must visit. Then around the corner you have the best Hazelnut coffee in town. The place is called Drip and do pay attention to the stationary computers and myriad concepts in a coffee shop.
Then later at night you have Lava Lounge that has an exceptional red lounge room with huge pillows and a basement lava room. It changed names recently but ask around on 83-84th Street on Columbus and you will be directed in the right direction. In addition, just walking down Columbus you must take advantage of the exquisite Snapper presented at Calle Ocho between 82nd and 83rd Street on Columbus. It was spectacular and is a must treat. The oyster lovers will be pleasantly served on Columbus between 78th-79th Street at Ocean Grill with your own private fire place, find it and for a final enjoyment of privacy, find Cafe Artistes at 1 w. 67th. Of course, you must visit Tavern on the Green which is located a stone throw away in Central Park off Central Park West and 70th Street. These are the secrets of the Upper West Side. Indulge this and don’t forget that Lincoln Center and the Shakespeare in the Park have free performances all summer long, every summer. Lincoln Center has live music bands outdoors on Lincoln Plaza for free for 4-6 hours each Saturday night during the summer' All from Salsa, Jazz, and Classical to anything that makes you move.
Enjoy the following special events: February- Presidents week, Valentines Day; March-St. Patrick’s Day parade; April-Easter Parade Fifth Avenue; May-NYC bicycle race, Memorial Day weekend; June-start of summer; July 4 celebration; August- U.S. Open tennis; September-Labor day weekend. Perfect location for November's events- Marathon, Parades, Lincoln Center. Clean and quite apartment with new kitchen on a quite street yet just a few blocks from a wide range of restruants, subways, central park not to forget ZABARS (grocerys). Don't miss the newly refurbished Historical Society Museun of NYC. Highly Recommended

Our family of 5 found this ideal for our weekend in New York. The location couldn't be better - we were able to walk to shops, restaurants, synagogues, the subway, Central Park, museums, etc., and yet the street itself is very quiet and charming. We did a fair bit of cooking, so the kitchen was perfect. The apartment was great and very comfortable for a family of our size. Tony was responsive when we had a minor issue. The value for the money can't be beat. The only drawback was the fact that it is a back apartment, so natural light and cell phone reception are limited. It's a walkup, so only suitable for those that can manage stairs.

What a perfect apt for a family enjoying a week in NY. This is an ideal location - walking distance to the Natural History Museum, Zabar's, shopping, great restaurants, subways and buses. Accurate listing and photos. Very clean apt., nice modern kitchen, two very good sized bedrooms, internet access, etc. Very helpful and accommodating landlord. We'd definitely stay here again.

We stayed 2 weeks and had a great time. Everything in the place is functional. Bedrooms are very quiet, with little or no noise from the street to wake light sleepers. TV and wireless are easy to operate. One downside. ATT wireless reception is very poor to nonexistent in the apt. Good location for catching the crosstown bus at 81st and the subway is only a block and a half away at 79th and Bway. Great coffee place at the corner of 80th and Columbus

Our family of 2 adults and 2 teenage sons stayed at this fabulously located apartment for one month from the 12/27/2010 until 01/27/2011 and we had a ball. The apartment was just as the description and photo's said it was. It was spotlessly clean and had everything that we required. The owners of the apartment were helpful and polite. We loved the fact that there was a laundramat hlf a block away and Zabars down the road. The area was lovely and we felt quite safe in allowing our sons to wander around as much as they wanted. I would highly recommend the apartment for families, especially families with teenagers or couples wanting to stay in New York city.

Appartement calme et très agréable pour deux familles avec des enfants. A 2 pas de Central Park et du musée d'Histoire Naturelle. De bons restaurants et des cafés dans les rues voisines. Adresse à conserver.

My wife and I took our 2 kids to do the tourist thing on a recent school break. I went to high school in the city so I knew this neighborhood. The apartment is great. Clean and spacious. Neighborhood is perfect. 2 blocks from Natural History museum and 2 block from subway. Everything you'd ever need is within 3 blocks (bagels, coffee, restaurants, grocery, pharmacy, etc). Exceptional value in my opinion. If you travel with small kids, you know the drill. Either pay up for two rooms or everyone goes to bed at 9pm. Having a two bedroom apartment for less that what what you'd pay for many hotel rooms in NY is a no-brainer. Tony was very reponsive and easy to work with. Highly recommend this place. I would go back in a heartbeat.

We recently rented this apartment for an extended weekend. The apartment was great for our needs (five women sharing). However, the entrance to the buidling and particularly the hallway are in dire need of attention. The stairs were broken in two spots. The hallway was very dismal. Investing some of the rental income in a coat of paint and some interior and exterior common elements would make this place rate as an "excellent"
Owner response:We have repaired the stairs with new marble.. We are planning to repaint the hallway and interior and exterior common elements. We are happy you enjoyed your stay and thank you for the 4 star rating

We were pleased with the accommodation. Six women and one bathroom could have been a problem but there were plenty of electrical outlets in the apt. and both bedrooms had mirrors as well as one in the living room. Beds were comfortable. The stairs up to the apt are steep & shallow, might be a problem for some. The neighborhood was great, we felt safe at all times, and it was only a short walk to the Metro station. Lots of things to see and do in the area, however, this being our first trip to NY we toured the whole city of Manhattan and we had no problems finding our way around or getting where we wanted to be from here.
