The Maine Chalet is a family-owned and operated oceanfront vacation rental 8 miles NW of downtown Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island in the great state of Maine. It is a quiet and secluded house right on the water perfect for couples or small families who want to vacation in Bar Harbor, but stay just far enough away from the craziness of town. Acadia National Park is spread all over the island -- the nearest entrance to our home is about 4 miles away. The far side of the island is about 15 miles away (Southwest Harbor).

We've been innkeepers for most of our lives, though we've recently sold our inn -- hospitality is in our blood! If you're looking for a getaway -- this is a great choice! The house has 1 bedroom with a Queen bed and 1 loft bedroom with two double beds in it. The house has a fully-equipped kitchen, a gas grill and comes with a full set of linens. We're dog friendly, too (although you should check with us if you have more than one dog). Come and enjoy Bar Harbor!

This was the first trip to Maine for my husband and I.....It has been the most wonderful vacation EVER!!!! The house was great!!! We had all the amenities that was needed. The house is located close to the water....it is secluded, but also close to Bar Harbor....We could be to Bar Harbor in minutes and also to Acadia National Park. We have hiked, enjoyed delicious food, and the house was just icing on the cake. The owners have been wonderful and great to work with.....I would definitely recommend this home and would not hesitate to come back again...Thanks so much Gail and Joe....this house is a treasure and we have enjoyed every day here!!!!

Love it so much much we are returning back this year. Great price, you have your own private beach area, away from the crowds but close enough to everything. Can't wait to go back!!!

We spent a wonderful week with our dog, Jessie, at the Paluga's chalet. Jessie chased seagulls in the ocean every morning and we took fabulous hikes and walks in Acadia and ate tons of lobsters from Parson's lobster store! Gail and Joe were wonderful hosts, providing everything we would need. The woodburning fireplace at night was so warming and pretty (bring or buy your own wood!). The bed was super comfortable and the chalet was very clean. We loved nighttime walks in the VERY quiet neighborhood. Bar Harbor is close but far enough away! We will continue to return to this wonderful paradise.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind comments!! Have a great holiday season, and come back anytime! Sincerely, Gail and Joe Paluga

We have been planning a trip to Bar Harbor/Acadia Natl Park for over a year - We looked through many rentals (dog friendly needed) and we picked this one as the best fit for us * Close to Bar Harbor and even closer to Acadia Natl Park entrance * Pet Friendly * Fire stove in Living room* deck and nice view (thru trees but still a view!!) of the water at the beach below the chalet. There was a folder of all nearby acitivites and places to dine with or without the doggie waiting for us on the table. Even a friendly note letting us know of an off-leash dog friendly trail for us to check out. There was even WiFi for us to relax by the fire and google anything we wished :) Bar harbor is very pet friendly (on paitos) and when we were too tired or cold to eat in town - the kitchen was fully stocked to cook dinner / breakfast at home. We fully enjoyed our stay and would rent from again if we are ever up your way again! We even saw two, yes TWO bald eagles soaring above the chalet!! two days in a row around 3pm! It was amazing! The beach was down a little hill and great to walk to take the dog with coffee in hand in the mornings or evenings, Thanks again! Jessica, Gerry and Charlie the yellow lab

We couldn't have enjoyed the chalet more! This was our first time in Maine, our first time renting a house, and our first trip with our two dogs and it was the perfect choice for us. Location was absolutely ideal - we were at both Acadia and either bar harbor or southwest harbor every day. The chalet itself is super clean and very comfortable. completely stocked with everything you need. Beautiful deck to sit outside and take in the picturesque views. A very special place with wonderful, gracious owners- so glad to have found it!

We really enjoyed staying at this house from July 14-21 of 2012. The house is in a great location just 10-12 mins from Bar Harbor, closest Lobster pound only minutes down the road. Situated on the northern tip on the island, it is only a minute walk down the path to the water's edge. I took my dog swimming every morning(July water temps) and would watch the lobstermen hard at work that early. House was clean and well stocked with kitchen supplies. At night we were usually greeted by a deer or fox at the top of the hill and the stars were incredible with the clear sky. Landlord sent us plenty of info on the area(tours & attractions) once we booked it and there was even more at the house in the area guide that was put together. DOG FRIENDLY was a huge plus and the landlord made sure there was a list of dog friendly restaurants on the table. In fact the town of Bar Harbor and Acadia NP are VERY dog friendly. We ate lobster every night at a restaurant with the dog. Only minuses were that there needs to be a light over the shower and the hot water seemed to run out quick with only two people. I would definately rent here again and recommend it to friends. Oh, and huge U.S. flag on flagpole at bottom of driveway is great.

We took a chance on this one since the price was right, and did we ever luck out. The place is immaculately clean. The entire interior is done in warm woods for a real cozy, warm feel. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We brought a lot of stuff we didn't really need to bring. The kitchen is more than fully equiped with supplies that included teflon pots. (Not usually included). They provided plush bath towels, even dog towels, and plenty of bath supplies, along with some firewood for the Vermont stove, a new flat screen TV/DVD, and WiFi reception was very good. Lots of information on local supplied on local attractions. Very thoughtfully done with a homey touch! Even a Miele vacuum cleaner in the hall closet. (We've never seen that at Marriott or Hilton timeshares). The master bed was firm and comfortable, 2 fairly large closets in master bedroom, with dressers. 2 double beds in loft. Outside propane grill and picnic table. Views of Frenchman's Bay from wrap around deck. A very short walk on the path to a beautiful beach on the bay. Close to Acadia National Park entrance, and not far from Bar Harbor. We wouldn't just recommend staying here, we plan to go back soon ourselves.

We visit Maine at least 2 times a year, usually Spring and Fall. This was our first time in the Summer, we came for the week of the Fourth of July. We had a simply wonderful time. Louie, our cocker spaniel loved playing in the yard and on the beach. The house is well equiped for a week stay and very comfortable. The wrap around deck is nice, shade or sun, take your pick. The view was nice either way. A few boats pass by, but generally it was very quiet on the water. Very peaceful. Nice walk to a public beach close by, but we mostly played on the beach by the house. Great rental for anyone, good for kids or a dog. We really enjoyed our stay.

This home is quaint, quiet, and cozy. The home is clean and comfortable and is very well equipped with linens, towels and a well stocked kitchen. They even have towels for your pet! It sits down close by the waters edge with a great view. The home is a short drive to Bar Harbor (10 minutes or so) and even closer to the entrance to Acadia National Park. We stayed the first week of May and felt like we had the whole park and town to ourselves. We loved our visit and are looking forward to coming back in the fall for the foliage. I would recommend this place highly for those who seek solitude, a great view and easy commute to Bar Harbor and Acadia. The owners are wonderful and treat this rental as such.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 1980

About the owner: I've lived in Bar Harbor since 1971 and until 2008 I owned an inn (my daughter and her partner ran it for a number of years) as well as this vacation rental. I also own and run Bar Harbor Auto Repair in town so if you have car troubles while you're on vacation, you can come see me. In the picture is my current wife, Gail. You might talk to either of us when you make a reservation. Please let us know how we can make your stay in Bar Harbor (and hopefully in our house) the best vacation you've ever had.

Why the Owner Chose Bar Harbor:
First, I built the house myself. I chose this property because it was a prime piece of oceanfront land just far enough outside of Bar Harbor to be secluded and tranquil when town is a madhouse, but still close enough to everything we want to do. For years we used it as a personal getaway or hosted friends and family when they visited. We've rented it weekly for over ten years now. We still think of it as our home and not as a vacation rental -- we love it and take good care of it!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
First, we've been in the Bar Harbor hospitality business since 1971 -- we know the town and can help make your vacation awesome! Second, you're in a quiet location 100 ft. from the water (if you're looking at a map, find Hadley point just north of Route 3 as you drive from the head of the island to Bar Harbor -- that' where we are!). Third, this area of the island is a great launching point for getting into Acadia National Park. Fourth, the home is simple and affordable -- great for couples or small families.
