We used this graciously appointed home to house a guest speaker our group brought to Abingdon. She told us she had never been treated so royally and had never had such elegant accommodation in forty years of speaking engagements. Everything was immaculately clean and helpful explanations were provided. The location on Main Street was within walking distance of all the most charming spots of Abingdon. If you cannot live in this house full time, the next best thing is to rent it short-term from Kristi and Bruce. Thank you for a stellar experience.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The owner was prompt in responding, everything was as advertised, the house was clean and it is in fantastic shape, with things like coffee filters and spices already there (it's the little things). The bathroom, kitchen and dining room are really super. The location was perfect for our trip (long weekend for a family of four). Right across the street from the Tavern (great restaurant), right up the street from Rain (another great restaurant), two blocks from the VA Creeper Bike Shop where we caught our shuttle to the top. We rode our bikes straight to the house when we finished the trail. You can also walk to the Barter Theater, etc etc. Thanks for offering such a great house to rent!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks- glad you had a fun trip!

What a lovely home! We had the privilege of staying at The Mary Connally Penn House while in town to attend the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Races at Bristol. The house met all of our needs and exceeded our expectations. The house is decorated extremely well, the beds were very comfortable, and we loved sitting on the porch! We walked down the street and ate at the Ellis Grill just past the Barter Theatre. We really hated to leave. Thank you, Kristi, for a wonderful stay.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks- glad you enjoyed your visit to Abingdon!

Two friends and I have gotten into the habit of renting a house when we travel out of town and the Mary Connelly Penn house is one of the best. We are three mature women who value space and separate rooms and kitchen facilities - and, Abingdon in August, a robust air conditioning system. The house is perfectly decorated and the kitchen and bath are to die for (except for the water pressure in the shower - low). Beds are comfortable, sheets and towels are quality, kitchen is more than well equiped! The screened in back porch is lovely for breakfast and we loved rocking on the front porch in the evening and watching the town pass by. There is a sweet coffee/wine/gourment shop across the street as well as the tavern restaurant - and in cooler weather, walking to the town center would be quite pleasant. I highly recommend the Mary Connelly Penn house.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing.

Having seen the pictures and read the reviews on the internet, we were still blown away by the property! The kitchen is absolutely beautiful! We ended up doing more cooking than we had anticipated. Our granddaughter especially enjoyed sitting in the front porch rocking chairs just watching the cars go by. It is on Main Street so there was road noise at night but not enough to deter us staying there again, hopefully in the fall. The only change that we would make at all would be a more comfortable sofa in the den for watching television. We would definitely recommend this house. Congratulations on the remodeling, Kristi! It truly is a gem.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

As Abingdon residents, we have rented this property two times for visiting family & friends. You won't find a better location if you love downtown Abingdon with only a brief walk to the Barter or Creeper trail! The stone patio with the fire pit made for a perfect place for everyone to relax in the evening following a day taking in all Abingdon has to offer! What a wonderful addition to our "little town." Thank you Kristi & Bruce!!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing.

Kristy, We loved your place. Awesome location. Superbly restored and furnished. You covered every detail for our comfort. Stain glass in bath gorgeous - we met the artist's mentor at the fair. A couple of light bulbs out and noticed teeny ants in kitchen sink but no big deal. Would love to come back in cooler season. Keep us on your email list.Did you find this review helpful? We were very pleased with the Main St House. The location was wonderful-very convenient to the Barter Theater & downtown. We watched the parade from the rocking chairs on the front porch. We never needed to drive at all. The newly renovated kitchen & bath were outstanding. We cooked most of our meals & enjoyed eating on the screened porch. The only downside was that we couldn't find any coasters to protect the beautiful tables from our drinks. The rooms were cozy & the beds very comfortable. We definitely would enjoy staying here again. Thank you, Kristi.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family and I stayed in this cozy home last Thanksgiving and found it very warm and inviting. It's location is ideal for anyone visiting the area as it rests at the very heart of the most charming part of Abingdon. The kitchen and baths lacked for nothing and the bedrooms seduced us all into oversleeping.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: We bought this house in 2007. It had been used as a rental property for about 30 years and was very neglected. We spent almost a year on the renovations and are very happy with the results. It truly has one of the best locations in Downtown Abingdon and we hope you will consider renting it for your next vacation.
