Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

When we bought this house in 2007 it was a mess. It had been used as a rental property for about 30 years and was very neglected. We spent almost a year on the renovations and are very happy with the results. It truly has one of the best locations in Downtown Abingdon and we hope you will consider renting it for your next vacation.

Perfect Oasis

Two friends and I have gotten into the habit of renting a house when we travel out of town and the Mary Connelly Penn house is one of the best. We are three mature women who value space and separate rooms and kitchen facilities - and, Abingdon in August, a robust air conditioning system. The house is perfectly decorated and the kitchen and bath are to die for (except for the water pressure in the shower - low). Beds are comfortable, sheets and towels are quality, kitchen is more than well equiped! The screened in back porch is lovely for breakfast and we loved rocking on the front porch in the evening and watching the town pass by. There is a sweet coffee/wine/gourment shop across the street as well as the tavern restaurant - and in cooler weather, walking to the town center would be quite pleasant. I highly recommend the Mary Connelly Penn house.

This house was everything I expected and more. Ideal location, felt like home. Very accommodating owners, my return trip is already planned, coming back in November.

Great Property!

Having seen the pictures and read the reviews on the internet, we were still blown away by the property! The kitchen is absolutely beautiful! We ended up doing more cooking than we had anticipated. Our granddaughter especially enjoyed sitting in the front porch rocking chairs just watching the cars go by. It is on Main Street so there was road noise at night but not enough to deter us staying there again, hopefully in the fall. The only change that we would make at all would be a more comfortable sofa in the den for watching television. We would definitely recommend this house. Congratulations on the remodeling, Kristi! It truly is a gem.

As Abingdon residents, we have rented this property two times for visiting family & friends. You won't find a better location if you love downtown Abingdon with only a brief walk to the Barter or Creeper trail! The stone patio with the fire pit made for a perfect place for everyone to relax in the evening following a day taking in all Abingdon has to offer! What a wonderful addition to our "little town." Thank you Kristi & Bruce!!!

Kristy, We loved your place. Awesome location. Superbly restored and furnished. You covered every detail for our comfort. Stain glass in bath gorgeous - we met the artist's mentor at the fair. A couple of light bulbs out and noticed teeny ants in kitchen sink but no big deal. Would love to come back in cooler season. Keep us on your email list.

We were very pleased with the Main St House. The location was wonderful-very convenient to the Barter Theater & downtown. We watched the parade from the rocking chairs on the front porch. We never needed to drive at all. The newly renovated kitchen & bath were outstanding. We cooked most of our meals & enjoyed eating on the screened porch. The only downside was that we couldn't find any coasters to protect the beautiful tables from our drinks. The rooms were cozy & the beds very comfortable. We definitely would enjoy staying here again. Thank you, Kristi.

My family and I stayed in this cozy home last Thanksgiving and found it very warm and inviting. It's location is ideal for anyone visiting the area as it rests at the very heart of the most charming part of Abingdon. The kitchen and baths lacked for nothing and the bedrooms seduced us all into oversleeping.
