"LION IN THE SUN" I fell in love with this house the minute I saw it. I started making plans for it right away. We added the screened in porch and put a hot tub on it. We painted & did some redecorating and added TVs & VCRs to all of the bedrooms, and best of all we put in a private pool.
But I wanted to change the name Lion in the Sun... it sounded kind of silly to me, but I just couldn't come up with another one that suited me, so I wrote a note in our guest book and asked our guest to make some sugestions, and almost everyone that responded said that it was a grrreat name & was suited to the house. We have a lot of repeat guests and they all agreed that the changes that we made to the house were great, but that the name was already perfect so....LION IN THE SUN ...it is.
It really is a great vacation home on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is located just across the street from the Atlantic Ocean. It's in a very nice small subdivision that offers a swimming pool & tennis court. But as I said before we also have a PRIVATE POOL WITH FREE SOLAR HEAT in back of the house,just waiting for you.
We furnish 5 TV's 5 VCR's a DVD player CD player puzzles & games, about a 100 movie videos & about 20 DVD's( some for all ages) & it has ceiling fans in most rooms. We have also added a crib & high chair for the little ones. The kitchen is nicely equiped & BED LINENS are FURNISHED. It fronts a private lake and is just a few steps away from a boarded walkway to the large, beautiful ocean beach.
From the front decks of the house watch the sun come up over the ocean, and in the evening, from the back deck, or while sitting in the hot tub on the screened in porch you can see the sun dip into the sound, or anytime of the day go up to the crow's nest for a panoramic view of the island & the Atlantic Ocean.In the autumn watch as the ducks swim in the private lake just behind the house.
And what an island it is... for history buffs you can make short day trips to see the world-famous Hatteras Lighthouse or a ferry ride to Ocracoke Island. In the other direction to Roanoke Island to the Elizabethan Gardens and the outdoor drama "The Lost Colony" Or, to Kitty Hawk to see the birthplace of flight and the "Wright Brothers Memorial".
But maybe your idea of the perfect vacation is swimming or surf fishing. There is also a fishing pier just a short drive from the house. Perhaps walks on the beach looking for shells or just "LION IN THE SUN" and getting away for quality family fun.There is also KITE BOARDING very near.
We have left games and movies for all ages for you to use. We want you to feel welcome and at home so we try to make our vacation home as comfortable and as pretty as we can for you.
There are four bedrooms; two of the bedrooms are masters - one with a queen-size bed and a jetted tub and the other with a king-size bed. There are two sets of bunk beds in one of the other rooms and a set of twin beds in the other. You don't have to bring bed linens, the beds are already made for you after you drive.
So pack up the kids and grandma and grandpa and come on to the beach. If a quiet, relaxing vacation is what you have been needing and wanting, then "LION IN THE SUN" is for you.

A good property with poor management

On April 21, 2011 my nephew and I arrived at the house in Waves, N.C. that we had reserved for a one week stay. The 2nd and final payment for the reservation had been paid in full one month earlier. We contacted the property management company to let them know we were going to be arriving approximately 5 minutes past their closing time of 5 p.m. They told us that no-one could wait for us but that a parcel with our names would be waiting in their entryway with keys, etc. It was a cold and rainy evening and we were looking forward to a warm soak in the hot tub after our 300 mile drive. Alas, the hot tub was empty! There was no note in the parcel telling us that there was a problem or when it would be corrected. We decided to use the large spa-type bathtub in one of the bathrooms only to discover that there was no hot water! We found the hot water heater and realized it wasn't even on. We searched until we found the circuit breakers and yes, the one to the water heater was turned off! While we waited for the water to heat up, we started unpacking to settle in for our week. I started looking for some clothes hangers (there were none in my closet). Searching every closet of this 4 bedroom house, we finally found only 6 hangers! Then, we began putting away food we had brought. Though the kitchen was stocked with ample dishes, tableware and cooking pots and utensils, there wasn't a single dish cloth or dish towel. We also noticed that there were no condiments at all; not even the basics of salt and pepper. The next morning we arrived at the property manager's office first thing. Following our list of complaints, they told us that the hot tub would be fixed that afternoon. It wasn't! Later that day we wanted to do some laundry only to find that the breakers to those appliances were also turned off. The hot tub was finally fixed late on our 3rd day. Following our expressed displeasure, the management firm finally--over a month later--sent us a skimpy refund (about 3%). Though we did our best to not let all this ruin our time in an otherwise beautiful place to visit, it was never-the-less, disappointing. We have stayed in several VRBOs and never encountered such poor management. I'm sure that the owners of this lovely house would expect their designated property manager to do a better job than what was done for our stay.
