Beautiful Secluded Riverfront two+ bedroom cottage newly constructed on a very private section of the Mousem River with pristine views and only 10 minutes from downtown Kennebunk Maine. This cottage is the only building directly on a two mile long section of the Mousem River called Old Falls Pond created by a 150 year old dam one mile downstream.
There are a few other cottages you can see set back from the river/pond when you boat up and down but it is rare that you will see anyone else on this river/pond. Swimming off of the cottage dock(with swim ladder) is better then in the ocean as the river/pond water is much warmer and cleaner. The fishing is very good with Large and Small Mouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, Pickrell etc.
The Ocean is only 12 minutes away and southern Maine has many great Restaurants and sites to see. Bring or rent your own Canoe, Kayak or Small carriable boat and you can explore both sides (the opposite side is Kennebunk Conservation Land) of the river including rapids one mile upstream. Below the dam you can also hike for miles and admire the original natural rapids and swim pools created centuries ago after the last ice age.

Why the Owner Chose Kennebunk
This location was the only cabin built on this section of the river/pond in 1950
and thus still the only cottage right on the water available to reconstructed as a new waterfront.
In effect this cottage is alone on this part of the river/pond and across the river is all natural Kennebunk conservation Land so it acts as a private nature sactuary. There is no public moter boat access so no traffic on the river for you and your carry in boat.

My family of four stayed in the cottage June 21 - June 28, 2008 and everything was clean and new - the lake water was clean and warm - we went swimming everyday - I would highly recommend this cottage to any family looking for a private getaway near the ocean with your own private lake area.
Owner response:This waterfront cottage is a short drive to the ocean beaches and in a very private river/pond location . The cottage has better swimming then the ocean because the river/pond water with swimming ladder has much warmer water all summer which kids love. We also have a new heated outdoor shower this year.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We stayed here summer of 2010. The cabin itself is beautiful. We LOVED the screened in porch right over the water. We ate out there every night. Our kids (4 and almost 2 at the time) loved the warm swimming and became very good at jumping off the dock. We loved that we could sit on the dock and not get wet while they swam for hours at a time. Everything was spotless and the kitchen very well appointed. It felt like there was a lot of room the way the bedrooms and living space were layed out. Our one complaint, and the reason we won't return, was the road you drive on to get to the cabin is very sketchy. It is probably typical for back woods Maine, with lots of broken down cars in the yards and that did not bother us. However, there was one house, or shack really, with a very scary guy living there. My husband and I are big runners (and the running, trail and road is very good here) and when he ran by one morning the guy let his dog go and the dog bit my husband. The guy never called the dog back or apologized. My husband then would not let me run from the cabin, I had to drive to a pull off and run from there. So, as far as driving into the house and how we felt while we were at the property, it seemed very safe, but I don't think anyone would feel safe walking out past these properties and certainly not letting your kids wander around anywhere other than right at the cabin.
Owner response: Update for this review, After several concerned neighbors complained about this dog chasing runners and cars on the access road to river cottage road in 2010 the misbehaving dog and owner decided to sell their very small building. They moved back to their Potato farm in Northern Maine and the dog is now chasing coyotes and pigs which he grew up doing.
Recommended for:Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Our family of 5 had a wonderful time at this very private cottage. My kids 7,13, 16 loved thier private swimming hole. If possible bring a boat or canoe because the fishing is great. We also enjoyed the ocean that was close by and quickly learned our way around town. The owner is very friendly and we thank him for letting us bring our dog .
