Puko'o, Molokai is the place for those looking for peace and solitude. Our home sits on a one-half mile pristine beach with incredible views of West Maui, Lanai, and Kaho’olawe. Expansive decks and hide-away doors give you the feeling of living in a thatched hut, in a tropical paradise. An outer reef provides protection from ocean swells so that young and old alike can enjoy the ocean without concern for breaking waves or strong currents. Snorkeling is very friendly as the water depth is waist to head high from the beach to the reef (one-half mile). Puko'o Molokai lies on the "East End" of Molokai, and enjoys a consistent trade wind breeze, which keeps our home cool.
Our home is newly constructed featuring plaster walls, rattan ceilings, custom bamboo cabinetry and tropical landscape. Our "Cook House" features a very open dining, living, and kitchen area with 2 large decks. All doors disappear to create an open, outdoor living experience dreamed of only in a tropical climate. The pune’e (large built-in couch) is great lounging for the whole family and a great spot to view the large screen TV. Our bamboo dining table is handmade and luxuriously accommodates guests with an unrivaled view of Maui. The front lanai (deck) features generous bamboo chairs and couch for the ultimate morning coffee or evening cocktail.
Larger groups may be accommodated by also booking our adjacent rental cottage that holds a maximum of four adults.

Property is everything stated and more. Manager was friendly and helpful. Local neighbors friendly, shared lilikoi butter and jerked meat and took us to local sights that cannot be found by visitors. After 8 trips to the islands the best non tourist experience is found in Molokai at Pukoo. The beach is great for kids and so is the swimming and snorkling. Amazingly private. When we return to Molokai we will rent Pukoo again.

This property was everything as described and more. The view was amazing, the property was immaculate, comfortable, and had all the amenities one could want, with the exception of just a few things listed later. Our companion party had to cancel their trip, so my wife and i had this huge home all to ourselves. In a way, it was almost overwhelming. We had very unusual weather - even for Hawaii. We have traveled to the four major islands quite a bit, but never had run into such a blustery stretch for so many days. We had 15-20 mile trades all day for the first 4 days, along with off and on rain. Then on our last full day, we awoke to absolute dead calm. Later in the day, Kona winds whipped up and we had rain in buckets for 4-5 hours unstopped. My favorite things about Hale Pukoo: Fabulous view - Secluded beach location - Outdoor shower - Peaceful surroundings. Issues I would change: Unable to use the kaiak - There was a two-man but with the winds you cannot go out alone. A one-man would have been great. Some hint of the local ocean environment from the owner or local. I knew the water was shallow, but I could also tell there were alot of rocks on the way out to the reef. Without a raft or water shoes to protect my feet, and with the chop, I wound up never getting into the water except my failed kaiak attempt. Handrails for the steps - my wife has a disability and can climb stairs easily with a hand rail, but not at all without. The steps are rock, and although only 2 or three for each lanai, I had to be with her all the time to move about. Molokai is not the place to go if you want fancy restaurants, resorts or shopping. But if you wan the rural laid back version of paradise, Molokai is it and I cannot imagine a home any nicer than this.
Owner response:Sounds as if these folks got windy patch. I apologize for not making it more clear in my description that there's a section of the beach 200 yards to the West of here where there's always plenty of water and a rock-free, sand bottom at any state of the tide. Also I'm sad that the guests did not request hand-rails. I have a set which I can put in place for those in need and would have been glad to do so if asked. Next time, perhaps.

10 days at Hale Pukoo was not enough! The house is absolutely amazing, I don't think there is a nicer one on Molokai. The location is great, the snorkeling is great and many days we didn't leave the property. If you are into Yoga there is a woman by the name of Karen at Sacred Site, 1.5 miles away that holds a Sunday yoga class with a view of the ocean. We will definitely be back!

Great beachfront oasis, wonderful well appointed house. everything we needed was available. kitchen is outstandingly simple and complete. we didnt want to go anywhere else, just while away the day soaking up the gentle surf on the lanai w/ our beverages. such a quiet place. especially, we did not want more of the hussle and traffic of the other islandss as on previous trips. we had to adjust ourselves to :SLOW-DOWN. and just obsorb the peace.it was our 30th anniverserywe needed the excuse to take it easy. also recommend to hire the chef (Don i think was his name from Canada) what a treat!
