My brothers and their families from (Atlanta, Ga. and Alisa Viejo, CA.) and my self (York, PA.) (11 total)met for a family vacation a few weeks ago. What a fantastic home to have for the week. I was very adiment about all of us being able to be together for family meals, or just hanging out, but also wanting each to have our own space. This was the best of both! We all love to cook and took turns showing off our culinary skills...kitchen was very well equipped with all the "needs for the cook". The Main Living area was the best....We wanted a nice quiet place that we could all be together to play games and have Family time....all of the bedrooms were above and beyond what we expected. The photos on the web site do not do the Bali House justice! Our first day Fernando pointed out a Sloth in the tree above our poolside deck. We were entertained by White Faced monkeys at least 2 times a day. The pool was beautiful....many photos taken with the background in the reflection of the pool! STARS everywhere in the sky! This was he most perfect home to have the perfect family vacation ever....We all decided that we will most definatly be back for a visit. Thank you so very much Peter for sharing your Bali House.....Fernando and Andrea were the best!!!!

Our family just spent the most amazing 12 days at Bali House. We enjoyed the comfortable beds, the fabulous meals prepared by Fernando and his wife, the beautiful beach just steps from the house, and all that surrounds this fabulous home. We went out only a few different times because the experience of sharing meals with the family prepared by this amazing couple could not be replicated. Thank you to Javier for joining us on the Atv and off shore fishing tours and the tour of the park. We really did feel like you were apart of our family. The house is clean and laundry done by Andrea made this a very relaxing experience. Every morning the monkeys would come in and bring a big smile to all our faces. The grand kids will never forget it as will we. It was the perfect place to accommodate the 12 of us. Costa Rica will get in your blood and will bring you back. Thank you Fernando...miss you already.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind review of our house in Manuel Antonio, CR. We take pride in out staff, the meals we prepare, the beauty of the exterior as well as the interior. With time, we plan on a few more such wonderful homes with the intention of establishing an intimate, high class residential community. With proper amenties, the location simply can not be beat. We have many repeat visitors, which we believe is the best endorsement one can obtain. Fernando has been on the property for over 11 years, he takes a great deal of pride in maintaining the property. Many of the staff have been working for us since they were teenagers, it is in fact, a family affair. We are glad you loved it, we love it too. Peter Frorer and Staff

Just returned from a week long trip to the Bali House. A fantastic private residence with the best of staff and services. We had 5 couples and all enjoyed their time. The house and property is large enough to find quiet time. With 50 acres of property and entrance to the beach (100 yards) it can not be beat. Fernando cook a couple of dinners for us (wonderful) and we cooked ourselves or went out for dinner. Best place to eat is Kapi Kapi...wonderful steak and seafood. Enjoy!

We stayed with 5 couples from 1/14/2012 - 1/21/2012. The Bali House (known by most locals and taxis as "Casa Akira") was unbelievable. The pictures on this site do not do it justice. The accommodations are perfect for 5 couples and those with children can squeeze more in if needed. This is the total package for those looking to go first class. The accommodations are breathtaking, the location is unbeatable and the grounds and staff are unsurpassed. We had them cook several breakfasts and dinners for us. The meals were great and a far better value than eating out. The maid staff was very friendly and accommodating. The Bali House met everyone's expectations. For those who wanted to stay at the house they enjoyed the pool, the deck, the view and the visits by the monkeys. Those who loved the beach were only steps away from the surf. Shopping is only a short 10 minute walk along the shore for the shoppers and Manuel Antonio Reserve was only 15-30 minutes away by foot as well. Taxi rides to restaurants, shopping and to the dive shop were quick and cheap ($5-$10 US each way). We are already planning to stay 1-2 weeks next year. Keep in mind there is no TV (a plus in my book) and wifi is really only available in the main house. Leave your worries behind and plan to never want to leave.

Our extended family of 10 (ages 11-71) stayed at Casa Akira from Dec 10-Dec 17th, 2011. We wanted a house close to the beach as many of the house in Manuel Antonio are up in the hills so beach access is not convenient and this was the main reason we went the MA area. The property is wonderful for beach access as you have a private walkway from the house to the beach with chairs, hammocks and boogie boards. The beach was clean, safe to swim in and very wide so there was never a crowd. The kids loved to boogie board all week. Although it was the dry season we caught some rain. Even when it rained it never stayed too long and we always got beach time in each day. We were visted at least 7 or 8 times on three different days by Capuchin Monkeys who put on quite a show for us as there were about 15 monkeys in the troop that visited. We also saw snakes and birds of all kinds (toucans included). I am sure there were sloths also but they are very hard to see if you dont know how to spot them as they blend in really well. In terms of activities you can do pretty much whatever you want. We did a tour of MA park that was excellent and highly recommend a guide as we saw may more wildlife than we would have on our own (including monkeys, raccons, multiple sloths, lizards, colorful crabs, hawks, bats..). It was only $20 per person and this included the $10 per person entry fee. Ask for Wilberth (aka Mapacho) for your park guide as he is in town by the beach and everyone at the restaurants knows him. You can also use Fernando (Casa Akira House Manager) to set up your tours. The other tours we did were the ATV ride with Fourtrax and a tour of Villa Vanilla that was very interesting (see Trip Advisor for more tour reviews). In terms of meals we stopped at the grocery store on the on they way to MA from San Jose and did the bulk of our shopping (Jeff the booking manager can arrange this for you) as we ate at the house for breakfast and lunch and some dinners to help on the overall costs. The driveway is very long and steep and some cars have a hard time climbing up the driveway so be prepared to get taxis or walk up the hill and use the bus line (0.50 per person) to get around. We liked Aqua Azul, Gemelos, Marlins and Terrazos for restaurants (the last one is at the top of the hill). However, the best/mopst affordable meal we had all week was prepared by Fernado and his wife so do this at least 2 times or more. Overall a great place to stay!

We had a wonderful time at Bali House! It's a fabulous property--50 acres in the jungle, just off the beach. The accommodations were first class and Jeff made sure every detail was attended to. Very relaxing, comfortable beds with large tubs/showers, great infinity pool and large but cozy great room for meals and just hanging out. Desiree was a fantastic chef--best ceviche and sushi ever! Jeff arranged zip lining and spice tours for us that we loved and recommended restaurants and places to shop. Staying in the jungle was a novel experience--the monkeys usually stopped by around breakfast time, to the delight of the kids and everyone else. Would recommend it to anyone. You will not be disappointed!

We recently took a multi-generation family trip to the Bali House, and had a fantastic time. The house and property were beautiful, and very well maintained. There was plenty of space for each family to have their own room, and it was great to congregate in the main house for meals and conversation. The large sofa/bed in the main house was a favorite spot for all of the kids to relax and play while the adults chatted after dinner. Our kids loved both the pool and the beach as well as just exploring on the paths looking for lizards, geckos, and monkeys. We were surprised by the number of staff. Jeff was fantastic in helping us plan our trip and our excursions. He had already taken the tours in the area so he could give us his opinion about them. He arranged for the tour companies to pick us up right at the house making everything so easy. Louis set-up our beach chairs and boogie boards every morning on the beach, and was there at the beach in case we needed anything. Andrea did a great job keeping the house sparkling. She was there everyday and would change sheets, make beds, or do our laundry if needed. Fernando was fantastic and oh-so-sweet. Our little boy was sick while we were there, and he offered to take us to the dr, and gave us some of his own pedialyte for him. He also went out of his way to get us some dinner when we were staying in our room with our sick little guy. Desiree was also hired to make our meals. They were delicious and she was a pleasure. It was so great not to have to spend hours shopping and preparing food. Some days she went to 7 different stores just to the ingredients she needed for the day. We would definitely recommend the Bali House to all of our friends and family. Our kids are already asking if we can go back soon.

We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at the Bali House Feb 12-19, 2010. The property and staff are top notch. Jeff, the manager of the property, was very helpful and informative of what to do and local attractions. He did a great job making sure we were comfortable and that everything was taken care of for us. Desiree & Fernando cooked us our meals which were delicious! Everything was so fresh and well prepared. We stuffed ourselves all week! We highly recommend this property. The house is absolutely gorgeous and very clean. The pool was wonderful to relax by and the beach just minutes away down the walking path. The view.... incredible! There are local restaurants, shops and bars within walking distance if you choose to get out and about. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay and staff for our vaction. You won't be sorry staying at the Bali House! We hope to go back!

About the only mistake we made in planning this trip was in only booking for a week as no one in our nine (9) person group was ready to leave. Bali house was even more magnificent than what we were expecting from the photos. The staff made every effort to insure that we had a great experience at Bali house and were very successful in their efforts. Fernando and Iliana did a fantastic job preparing several meals that we decided to stay in and enjoy. Jeff did a great job in explaining and setting up excursions we decided to enjoy and I have to say that we enjoyed each and everyone of the activities. Everything was as good or better than we had anticipated from what we had researched on the internet. We had multiple monkeys visit pretty much every day with about 20 of them coming to see us on the last full day of our stay. You owe it to yourself to expererience the pleasure of Bali House and the first class treatment you will receive from each and everyone of the staff. Andrea, Louis, Michael, Bryan we certainly appreciate your fine care while we were there and look forward to seeing you again soon. We are already discussing making plans for a return trip. I recommend making life simple and have Jeff arrange your transportation to and from the airport if you are not renting a car. The Safari Canopy tour was great as well as the whitewater rafting and the Quad four wheeler excursion. Jeff can give you details and set these trips up for you allowing you more time to enjoy the joys of Costa Rica. The house is also conveniently located within a short cab ride of a number of great restaurants. There are actually several good restaurants right at the top of the drive to the house that are a short walking distance if you don't mind a bit of a climb up the drive that leads to the house. The views from several of the restaurants are magnificent. Aqua Azul was highly recommended and we were not disappointed. The food and view was magnificent. There are several other excellent places to eat and I would say ask Jeff :). Our whole group totally enjoyed our stay and were blown away by the service provided by Jeff and the wonderful staff that cares for you while at Bali House. I would definitely recommend this house to any of my friends or relatives. Several of my co-workers are now planning a trip with 12-15 to stay at Bali House in early 2012. Thanks again Jeff, Fernando, Iliana, Andrea, Louis, Brian, Michael..we loved our stay.

Our week long stay at Villa Akira was perfect! The villa is absolutely amazing - from the well-appointed interior, to the beautiful grounds and infinity pool, I can not say enough! There were 14 people in our group, including several small children. We really liked the fact that there were basically 5 private master suites. The staff provided excellent service! Jeff and Fernando did an outstanding job setting up activities and answering any questions we had. The beach attendant, Luis, had the chairs and hammock set up each day. Everyone was very friendly and made us feel welcome! The location was perfect and close to everything. We hired Chef Desiree for 5 days. It was a great decision! Her food was delicious and we really enjoyed getting to know her and her husband. It truly was a dream vacation! We hope to visit again soon!

Just returned from a week at Bali House. Its pretty much what you see in the pictures. What isn't pictured is the great staff that comes with the property. Special thanks to Fernando (ran things, and took care of any details or issues), Andrea (for cleaning up after us, and doing our laundry), and Luis for taking care of us down at the beach. They all could not have been more gracious, or helpful. We had an amazing week. the house worked great for our large extended family which included 3 young children. The house is beautiful. The only improvement I'd like to see is some air conditioning in the living room area as it did get a bit steamy at times. other than that, this place rocks. hope we can come back sometime.

The house far exceeded our expectations. The video looks like it comes from the show Life of the Rich and Famous and guess what it is! The house alone is fabulous and then add the staff and it is Fabulous. Fernando, Andrea and Luis made are stay so relaxed and comfortable. We zip lined, river rafted and toured the Manuel Antonio National Park. Every excursion was wonderful. My suggestion is plan to stay the day at the National Park and enjoy the beach it is beautiful. Loved waking up to the sound of crashing waves, the jungle and Monkeys! They were a big hit with the little and big kids. We cannot stop telling all our friends what a great place this is to stay. Puda Vida!

The property and the accomodations are beautiful. There is a full time staff making sure everything is clean, comfortable and safe (security guard at night). The monkeys make multiple daily appearances and hang out on the deck eating mangos. Take a short walk down a path of trees (sometimes seeing monkeys, huge blue crabs, and once in awhile iguanas) to your own private access to the beach (they have chairs, etc.. for you) and from there turn left, and about a mile away you can hike at the national park for even more amazing beaches and views (get there early as there is a maximum capacity). The property management is friendly and accomodating, and has great reccomendations for activities and private chefs. They only reccomend the best and who they actually have used. The Bali House is well known in the area so getting picked up by different companies was never an issue, and grocery stores deliver as well. It is pretty remote though, so if you want to go into town you'll want to call a taxi. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. Buy lots of Lizano sauce to bring home!

I'm still bragging to my friends about the great trip I had with a fun group to Costa Rica. Nothing compares to the over-the-top accomodations of the "Bali House". The house has the best of all worlds, luxurious beds, huge baths, AMAZING infinity pool with a view of the Pacific, private access to the beach, and the the wondrous interaction with nature......we were "IN" the rain forest. I was sad to leave, but I arrived home healed from the stresses of my normal life. I highly recommend hiring a chef to prepare dinner. Our chef prepared everything fresh and handled all of the prep and clean-up. So many healthy and tasty options. The Bali House is the best way to relax and enjoy your visit. We were able to experience a variety of activities all based from the house and taxis and shuttles had no problem delivering us to and from our excursions. Can't wait to come back!

Our time at the Bali House was as close to a piece of heaven as could be envisioned! In celebration of my 70th birthday I invited my 2 married children and their families to join me in an exotic location over Christmas. At every turn, manager Jeff Anderson was available to consult, recommend and organize for us…from being picked up by a driver and van at the airport to booking 2 wonderful chefs to cook for us; from getting food in ahead of our arrival, to taking us in person to the best shopping locations, booking restaurants, and the amazing Canopy Safari. But most important is the Bali House itself. Perched in the trees, ocean view, offering opportunity for us (6 adults and 4 children (5 – 13) to eat together, play, read, and just absorb the sights and sounds; an infinity pool (visited by the monkeys on a daily basis), hammock (for reading and sleeping), and gazebo to entice a little solitude; each bedroom “pod” separate yet never far; an easy 2 minute walk down to the beach and the warm water of the ocean surf, and a staff who quietly and efficiently looked after our every need. Yes…a piece of heaven!

We just came back from our trip to Manuel Antonio. We were two couples, with 2 young children each (ranging 16 months-4 years old) as well as our two nannies. The Bali House was an AMAZING choice- every detail was taken care of for us: daily grocery shopping, taxi service, pick up/drop off to airport, daily laundry, bonfires on the beach, private chefs and daily breakfasts cooked for us, reservations at restaurants- really EVERY DETAIL was taken care of for us. The kids loved this magical house- they were greeted each morning by monkeys, witnessed iguanas running around the tropical property, saw wild dolphins during our catamaran ride and basically enjoyed swimming in the beautiful infinity pool and gorgeous beach alllllllll day long. The house ammenities are very upscale- each room has a beautiful bathroom. Its a very modern house nested in a tropical environment that is breath taking in every way. We fell in love with the location and the people of Manuel Antonio and want to go back soon!! Highly recommend this house as a rental!

From the morning with the monkeys to the campfire at night this house is a perfect place to experience Costa Rica. We were 10 people and all agreed it was our best vacation ever. This house is perfect for a group. The communal living room, dining room, pool area and outside spaces are wonderful. The bedrooms are all beautiful, with huge bathrooms, comfortable beds, and private balconies. Jeffrey, Fernando and the rest of the staff are incredible hosts, making us feel as though we were very important guests. We were spoiled by their attentiveness, responsiveness and gracious hospitality. We were so happy here and so sad to leave. Would recommend this place to anyone who wants to explore this most beautiful part of Costa Rica.

Hands down the best trip of my life! I chose to celebrate my 30th at the Bali House with a group of my friends. The pictures you see dont even come close to giving this place justice. Where to begin...The house and property is something you typically would only see in magazines and movies. Its that good and better. Jeff and his staff were awesome. The house was always clean and they were always avaialable for anything we needed. This house is literally in the middle of rain forest. The monkeys and sloths will even hang poolside with you. Waking up to the natural sounds of ocean waves and birds was amazing. I would reccomend this house to anyone.

With most vacations I've taken there comes a point where I just want to be home. The bed hurts my back, the pool is overcrowded, and searching for a piece of sand to lie on takes all day. To me vacations like this are too much work and work is the reason I’ve looked forward to vacation. I tend to feel like I can’t rest and relax. This is not the case at the Bali House. For me, this was the first vacation where I felt all of the comforts of home. A week in this paradise felt like a month. The design of the Bali House is very accommodating and affords vacationers a true luxury home to enjoy. Each “bedroom” is out side of the main house, which provides privacy. I enjoyed the outdoor shower located off of the Master suite. I was serenaded to sleep each night by the sound of the ocean. I was peacefully awakened each morning by the melody of the jungle. The staff at the Bali House is first-rate. The rooms were kept clean and neat. The pool was attended to daily and grounds were raked, swept, cut and managed immaculately. There are several mango trees on property that provide shade and entertainment (due to the dietary habits of the monkeys). Just a short walk down a paved path through the mango and palm trees, just beyond a small estuary filled with multi colored crabs, is one of the most peaceful beaches I have visited. My days at the Bali House were filled with absolutely nothing. For nights there are plenty of restaurants filled with locals and tourist alike. I was able to enjoy a couple of excursions. An ATV tour, which drove through the countryside and small towns and a Zip excursion that swings, dips and zips through the rainforest. While these activities were fun, I mostly I enjoyed the Bali House. At the suggestion of the house concierge I paid for a chef to cook three nights. Desiree was amazing. The food was incredible, and the chef (Desiree) was fun, personable and professional. I can’t come up with enough words to describe this amazing place. All I can say is you have to see it to believe it. I for one plan on seeing this house again and again.

Bali House was spectacular, not only for it's views, but also for it's unique layout. We loved the "family style" set up with main areas of the house surrounding the beautiful pool and private bungalows for each group. It made life with younger children much easier. The monkey's daily visits and our tour of Manuel Antonio National Park were our favorite things. We were treated as if the people on site had known us for years. We received great recommendations on restuarants, private chefs, deep sea fishing and more. Even the walk to the beach was beautiful. We would definately return for another visit to Bali House.

I visited costa rica for my wedding and honeymoon. We were married on the beach just down the path from the house. Then we spent a week at the Bali house which was absolutely amazing. Pictures can not even capture the beauty of this house. It is such a calming and peaceful place to visit. This was by far the best vacation I have ever been on. I would rate this as the #1 place to visit.

Beach access, ocean views, a jungle setting and lots of monkeys -- that's why we loved our stay at the Bali House. Everyone there was so attentive; we felt welcomed more as friends than as guests. The privacy of the grounds at the Bali House coupled with the nearness of restaurants and other amenities make this a very special place. Since staying at the Bali House, we have now made Manuel Antonio our permanent residence and have seen lots of other vacation rentals. None can compare! For beachgoers and nature lovers, the Bali House is perfect.

The Bali house is simply paradise!I loved that the beach is in walking distance but i was still planted in the rainforest. Great restaurants near by, but why bother when you can have a great chef! can't wait to return again!

The Bali House, a jungle/beach paradise! I loved the individual bungalows that allow for privacy compared to a traditional single family home. You can also walk up the driveway to restaurants and even do morning yoga at the Anaconda Cafe. (if you haven't drank too much Imperial Beer..LOL)
