Location: Tiverton, Rhode Island, USA (Approx 40 Miles from Providence and 70 Miles from Boston) View Map
Accommodations: Farmhouse, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2 Baths (Sleeps 3-5)
Keywords: Historic Farm House
Charming circa 1750 New England farmhouse with federal era renovations.
Surrounded by 14 acres of rolling stonewalled pastures overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and East Passage of Narragansett Bay, this property provides the ideal vacation getaway while still within easy access to the cultural and recreational activities available in the cities of Newport, Providence and Boston.
A short walk down to the shore brings you to a lovely bathing beach which is ideal for families who wish to swim, picnic, cast a line for blues or stripers, windsurf or simply enjoy the scenery of this barrier beach and estuary.
The Historic Tiverton Four Corners, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is an easy bike ride away. Once there, cool off with award winning ice cream at Gray's, visit one of several art galleries, enjoy a meal at the Grille or a deli sandwich and sweets from the Provender.
Shop for boutique clothing and house wares, antiques and gifts. Visit the Historical Society museum or the second oldest library in Newport County, founded in 1820. The area is rich in beauty, history and tranquility.
The property retains many interesting features of an early coastal farm. The outbuildings include a barn and hayloft with attached carriage shed as well as the foundation remains of a larger barn and its adjacent small stone-sided dairy once the cool storage place for milk and cheeses.
While these structures are reserved for the use of the owners, they have great visual appeal and lend unmistakable authenticity to the rental experience.
The interior of the house is imbued with the warmth and comfort of vintage style. Most rooms are wallpapered and many contain the original wide pine floor boards, some of which are finished in the Nantucket spatter painting technique.
The kitchen, master bedroom, a second bedroom and upstairs bath are all fitted with interior shutters. The living room , den , master bedroom and large eat-in kitchen each contains a fireplace which, while we must insist guests refrain from using, nonetheless, contribute greatly to the romance of the place.
The three bedrooms located on the second floor share a large bathroom which is centrally located and adjacent to the master bedroom. From every room in the house a water view may be enjoyed.
When these same views entice you down to the beach for a dip, an outdoor rinse shower awaits upon your return.
Curl up in one of the wicker or Adirondack chairs on the lawn beside the hydrangea garden or relax in the shade of the fieldstone terrace while the grill is readied for a late summer's night meal under the stars.
