My family and I go on an annual weekend get-away and we try to find someplace new to stay every year. This year researching places to accommodate our clan of 21 people from the age of 3 to 60, I stumbled across this castle. I have to say, it was by far THE BEST place we have stayed in our 8+ years of going away together. The castle was large enough to accommodate almost everyone in a bed (just two little tikes slept on mattresses on the floor). The gathering spaces were big enough for everyone to be together, but the house also offered many different gathering spaces so if you prefered to be solo, you didn't have to be hiding out in your room either. The secret passageways were outstanding, as well as the rooftop views. We played hide and seek with the kids, and there was no shortage of good hiding spots, for both the adults and the kids! The castle left you to want for nothing, every possible size dish, glass, pot, pan, appliances, fine china, spare mattresses, pillows, blankets, sheets, towels, even shampoo! The caretaker was outstanding and the fresh fruit bowl provided was the perfect touch. I'd be suprised if we tried to find someplace else to stay next year! The only thing I wish is that I was there in the warm summer months to take advantage of the paddle boats and beautiful lake. Thanks you John & Lynda for opening your home to my family, we hope to return again soon.

What a place to spend a weekend with friends! This house or rather "Castle" is magnificent. We were a party of seven couples that have been spending Super Bowl weekend together for several years. This was our first stay at the Castle and likely will not be our last. We wanted for nothing. There was plenty of room to spread out - from the casual family room off the kitchen where we hung out in the mornings to the gorgeous living room for cocktail hour prior to dinner in the formal dining room. There is plenty of recreational space and toys to keep any type of party occupied. My favorite room was the living room with the grand piano. Words cannot describe how beautiful and comfortable this room is – so if you are thinking of renting the Castle – just do it and see for yourself. The view is breathtaking! The castle is perched upon a hill overlooking a reservoir. We were fortunate to wake up to a family of deer crossing the field one morning. They new we watching and stopped to check us out. The owners were very gracious and you can tell by the extensive display of their family pictures throughout the house that they genuinely enjoy sharing their home. Mike the caretaker was very helpful checking in each day to see if we needed anything. Despite the disappointing loss by the New England Patriots, the weekend was a great success! If you are considering the Castle - Go for it!

I heartily recommend this house to anyone looking for a place that can accommodate a large group and still feel cozy. My friends and I - 16 adults and 8 kids 5 and under - rented the castle for a winter weekend retreat and had a blast. Every amenity we needed was there, as well as just enough magic to make it a memory that will last for years.

The pictures do not do this wonderful castle justice. A group of friends stayed at the catle over the holiday weekend and cannot say enough good things about the location, amenities and the overall warm feelings in this large estate. We take away from our stay a lifetime of memories from a great holiday.

We had my husbands 50th surprise birthday at the castle. It was more then we ever imagined. When he first saw it coming over the gorgeous snow covered road, he thought we were staying there with many other people. So what a surprise when he learned we had the whole place to ourselves. We had about 21 people including kids in total and everyone had a blast. The kids loved running up and down the secret passages. We loved just sitting outside by the fire and looking at the gorgeous views. The kids even got to paddle boat and many of us took walks on the gorgeous property. We used a wonderful caterer to do our dinner and brunch and so it was just a great weekend. The inside furnishings are beautiful and all the bedrooms are lovely. Its a special place!! For anyone who wants to do something totally unique and have loads of fun and relaxation, this castle is for you. We will definitely be back!

My group of friends and I recently had an outstanding weekend at the Castle. The house is amazing and surrounding property and views are incredable. We arrived on Friday and were greated by the caretaker who gave us a tour of the property ending on top of the tower with its views of the surrounding areas. we spent most of the weekend on the back patio taking advantage of the BBQ, firepit, and hot tub. We had a good size group and there was plenty of room for all of us. Plans are already in the works for a return trip with our families. I would highly recomend the Castle for anyone looking for a getaway location for their group.

I recently returned from a weeks stay at the castle. My parents rented the castle as a vacation destination for me, my sisters and our families. There were 10 adults and 9 kids (all under the age of 7). The castle was even better than we imagined after reading reviews and seeing pictures. I was nervous about bringing little kids to this luxurious home and we brought gates with us to block off rooms if necessary but it turned about to be amazingly kid friendly! The third floor playroom was enormous, and it had the biggest train table I have ever seen complete with thousands of legos which the kids loved. Not to mention the trampoline and the huge Disney video library. I was also hesitant when I heard that the caretaker comes by every day but once we met Mike we looked forward to him coming by with the paper every morning. He was a pleasure and it was great to have someone to answer questions as they came up. He told us about sledding down the big hill in front of the castle and I would say it was the biggest hit of the week! The kids LOVED it and some of the adults took a couple trips down too. I would also like to point out to anyone looking at renting the castle that the kitchen area is much bigger than it looks in the pictures. In addition to the kitchen table and stools at the island, the tv pit area has a counter around it with stools which were perfect for the kids. My only disappointment with our stay was not getting to use the gorgeous basement bar more often because we had such nice weather that we sat out around the fire pit every night. The castle was the perfect spot for our large family, plenty of room for everyone, and they provide everything and anything you think you might need. We are hoping to return!

Each year our family gets together for a family reunion. Our destinations have been very diverse. We all agreed this was our favorite place. Originally we planned to spend several of our days exploring NH and Mass. However, once we got to the "Castle" we didn't want to leave. Each day we played frisbee golf, swam in the lake, boated, went on hikes and numerous other activities. Mike, the caretaker, was great. He even "pulled some strings" and got the Rindge museum opened for us, one rainy day. All in all a wonderful week.

This year marks the 21st anniversary of my mom, 5 siblings, my in-laws and grandchildren vacationing together. The grandchildren have grown from 4 to 9 and this year we added the first great-grandchildren. Never in all the years of doing this have we had such wonderful accommodations as those provided by the castle. All of the previous reviews are true but can only touch on how wonderful and awe inspiring it is. We have never experienced such generosity in regard to linens, paper goods, toiletries, dry goods, toys and boats! Mike was very gregarious and helpful when we needed him. We stayed pretty much close to home as everything we needed was right there, but I would recommend seeing the Cathedral in the Pines. We also had 2 high school seniors in the group who took a day to visit some of the local colleges. I would definitely recommend Sunridge Castle to anyone.

My family just returned from a 3 night stay at the castle. Based on the information on the website about the castle, we had fairly high expectations for our visit. The castle in every area actually exceeded all of these high expectations. We found it a great place for children of all ages and an equally great place for adults. We have been on many short family excursions and our trip to the castle would have to rank as one of our best. Whether your desire is to be adventurous and play in the gorgeous 500 acres or just relax by the castle, your desires will be easily met. The castle was impecably clean, obviously quite unique, but at the same time, extremely comfortable to the point where you almost felt like you were at home. Any questions we had before hand were graciously answered by the owner, and while at the castle, the caretaker was very helpful, but in no way obtrusive. Overall, I would highly recommend the castle to any group of adults looking to do a unique get together, but I would recommend it even more to families as it was extremely children friendly. On our trip back home, the kids were already planning a return visit.

Several friends and I just finished a wonderful weekend at the castle and we all wished we could have stayed longer, hoping to return next year. The castle was all we hoped for from reading the description and seeing the photographs on this website, as well as the information provided by the owner before we arrived. It was a home from home and it felt immediately welcoming as soon as we walked in, more than any hotel room could have ever hoped to do. There were 10 of us in our group including some couples and singles in the age range of 30-48. We'd never been away together as a group, but this stunning venue had us all agreeing this was something we hope to do every year. We all had a great time. The castle and the land around it meant there were plenty of places to have some indvidual time as well as great rooms in the castle to regroup: a magnificent dining room, a finished basement with plenty of games, including a full-sized pool table, and the first floor TV pit where we all watched a movie as we wound down. Although some of us still had enough energy to make it to the hot tub, which was the perfect end to our day. Mike, the caretaker, was very helpful, as were the owners before, during and after our weekend to ensure it went as smoothly as possible. It's easy to reach. You can be there in 90 minutes from Boston, yet you are in some of the most beautiful countryside in New England, with a breathtaking view of Mount Monadnock from the patio. The outdoors beckon and I encourage everyone to take outdoor clothing so you can enjoy what's right on your doorstep. All-in-all, I can't recommend the castle highly enough for your get-away.

Our castle vacation was nearly everything we could have hoped for! We were a group of 11 adults and 9 children, 5 of them under the age of 5! There was plenty of room for all of us in this well appointed home. The layout of the bedrooms makes it easy to have individual family “wings.” On the second floor are 2 bedrooms located next to the master, as well as a separate suite across the hall with two bedrooms, a bathroom and sitting room with an 8 foot couch. On the third floor one will find another bedroom and full bathroom, as well as a queen size bed in the enclosed playroom and two futons that fold out in the expansive workout/ television room. On the first floor, in the library, is another comfortable full size bed. The basement is yet another expansive area complete with pool table, dart board, poker table, a gorgeous bar area and plenty of open space for laying out the 3 twin size mattresses or any of the air mattresses available throughout the home. Our teens made this area their home away from home! Sleeping bags are also available and the teens used these to sleep out on the roof under the stars the first night we arrived. The owners have provided their guests with everything you could need to make your stay fun, comfortable, and convenient. There are 100’s of movies, books, games, and a large and varied CD collection, which we enjoyed listening to through the outdoor speakers. The kitchen is well equipped, including some staples, coffee and spices. There are 2 gas grills and an outdoor fire pit complete with wood! Mike, the caretaker, is absolutely wonderful. He comes each morning with newspapers and is a step ahead in offering advice on such things as hikes and sightseeing in the area, providing us with multiple copies of a map detailing the many trails that are right on the property. Our family enjoyed exploring the acreage, sledding down the steep, grassy hill, taking out the paddle boat, kayaks, and canoe, fishing, stargazing, bonfires, and the list goes on! You could never leave the property and have plenty to keep you entertained. Though the castle is secluded, there are two grocery stores, a liquor store, and a Wal Mart very close by. Another positive note is that the hot tub is drained, cleaned and refilled between every group that stays.
Owner response:Wow! We could not descibe the Castle any better. John & Lynda

The Hunt Castle in Rindge is absolutely AMAZING! We had our annual family vacation/reunion there and loved everything about it. The house itself is gorgeous. It offers plenty of space (our party was about 20 people) and lots to do. The owners are very gracious and provide extra mattresses, bedding, towels, pretty much everything you need. The grounds are well taken care of and offer miles of trails (I enjoyed running on) as well as a huge lake with canoes, rowboats and kayaks to enjoy. Every night was spent by the fire outside under beautiful skies. It is close to Mt. Monadnock and Rhododendron State Park so there is plenty to do around, especially if you like the outdoors. I can not say enough good things about the property, and highly recommend it.

We spent the most wonderful weekend in the Hunt Castle as a 50th anniversary celebration. Our four "kid couples" rented the castle in our honor and all the family including nine grandchildren were in authentic costume. When we arrived, the family was in various places greeting us from the rooftops and the courtyard. We were given costumes to wear as well. The first night we had a mid-evil feast and began playing a murder mystery. The second day two chefs arrived to cook a brunch and a great celebration feast. We continued the murder mystery and began a scavenger hunt based on another mid-evil story. The castle was an amazing place to spend a weekend with our family. Everything was perfect. There was plenty of space and activities to keep eveyone busy. The accomodations were unbelievable. The castle has everything to make you feel like you are in an authentic castle and enough modern conveniences to make you feel comfortable and right at home. We never dreamed that we would get to stay in a castle but we did because of the generosity of the Hunt family. It's as if they just stepped out and we stepped in to enjoy their castle. They even left a basket of goodies and fruit for us. We had the use of their kitchens, yes kitchens, stocked with food you could pay for or replace. Dishes of every kind, silverware, pots and pans, spices and all sorts of odds and ends. There is also a very modern grocery store nearby. The grounds are spectacular with opportunities for nature walks and other sports, We are very grateful that our family chose this spot for our very special celebration! We were totally satisfied with our stay. I should mention that Mike the caretaker was very friendly and attentive. If you like adventure, convenience and fun, choose the Hunt Castle for your next special occasion! Barbara & Hank Saugus, MA

This place is amazing. Our group of about 20 college friends has been renting properties for annual get togethers for ten years and this topped them all. First, the castle itself was swesome, and immaculate upon arrival, with more than enough room for everyone. Second, the 500+ acres and the views are stunning. One weekend was not nearly enough time to explore the property and we almost didn't find the disc golf course, which was really fun, as the grounds are so expansive. Finally, working with the owners, John and Lynda, while we were planning our trip was a pleasure. Mike, the groundskeeper, stops by the property daily and although I initially thought this could be intrusive, this was not the case at all. He was very friendly and took the time to point out different aspects of the castle and property to make sure we were able to get the most out of our weekend. All in all, this was a wonderful weekend and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to stay at the castle.

We rented the Castle over Thanksgiving weekend in honor of my eighty-seven year old father. It easily accommodated all eighteen of us. Even though the weather did not cooperate, there were plenty of activities inside the Castle to keep us all occupied. Coming from a family that likes to cook, the kitchen was the highlight for us. It was big enough to accommodate three cooks. Who made two turkeys, with all the fixings while still being able to watch football on the 50-inch TV in the pit area. This was the perfect place to have a special family gathering.

The castle was all the we hoped for and more. The layout, particularly the living room (with grand piano) and the central staircase (with suit of armor) were fantastic--well appointed, lavishly decorated, and impeccably maintained, with plenty of books, games, and movies. The kitchen had all the amenities, including staples (we had brought our own, not knowing what to expect). We were 10 adults and 7 children. Even though it rained all weekend and we were essentially housebound, there was plenty of room for us to spread out, play, and socialize. (Ours was a family reunion, so that's how we wanted it. It was perfect for us.) We even used the jacuzzi outside and the kids had fun sliding down the hill. The bedrooms were wonderful and the playroom upstairs was great for the kids. We also got good use out of the pool table, darts, and poker table in the basement. It was extremely comfortable and everybody loved it. The owner was very gracious. He provided a one-page listing of restaurants, etc. in the area prior to our arrival. He was very appreciative of our treatment of the place (we were conscientious about cleaning) and happily and promptly refunded our deposit in full. The location, despite being just over the border from Massachusetts, is fairly remote. The property is grand, with great views. Outdoor activity is your best bet. I recommend mapping out directions very carefully in advance. We got lost despite having a navigation system, a printed Google map, and maps on an iphone. Some roads are minor or dirt, and not all systems recognize them. Once you know where you're going, it's not difficult.

We rented the Hunt Castle for a college reunion. My 11 girlfriends and I went to UMass together in the 70's and have been going away for one weekend a year for more then 20 years. We have rented some of the most interesting places that you can imagine. The Hunt Castle has quickly risen to the top of our list of places to rent. The house is immense and it takes the caretaker, Mike, almost 45 mins to introduce us to the many rooms and features. The surroundings of the Castle are vast and you feel that in the first few hours of spending time there. My coordinator partner and I did a lot of cooking for the weekend and the kitchen was fantastic to work in. Each year two or three of us are assigned the coordinator duties. That means we find the house and plan the meals for the weekend and we have a set budget. After finding the castle online we opt'd not to visit ahead of time and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, to set up, that it is very true to the write up and pictures. The dining area was perfect for 12 seated. On Sat eve we all dressed up as some type of Royal character. I, of course, was a Queen as were many of us. It was a fun, fun, fun house. The hot tub at night with all the lights ablaze was enchanting. Many of us used the kayaks and took hikes around the property. Each afternoon a flock of wild turkeys would arrive on the lawn for a late afternoon snack on the grass. It was a hoot to see. The Hunt's stock the house with whatever you need and you can tell the place is meant to host parties!! Can't say enough about Mike the caretaker. He isn't around much but if you need anything you feel like he will be there to help you out. I would give this house 5 stars!

For seven years a group of dear friends from college have been renting a house for a weekend in October. This year we chose the Castle and it did not disappoint! The immense size and all the amazing amenities were perfect for our group of adults and children. The castle is meticulously cared for by its owners and caretaker and it shows: from the cozy beds made up throughout the home to the welcoming basket of goodies to the beautiful grounds, the Castle was absolutely perfect for our weekend of relaxing and reconnecting. Some highlights included sledding on the hill, the basement entertainment room, the third floor playroom, ample space in the kitchen for cooking and hanging out, exploring the turrets and secret passage ways, and walking the trails on the grounds. The Castle is a true rare find in New Hampshire!

What a fantastic spot! We had a family reunion for my father's 83rd birthday this past weekend at Sunridge Castle. The property was very comfortable, yet elegant and unique. John was very easy to communicate with and Mike the caretaker was awesome! My children had so much fun exploring the castle and playing football on the extensive back field. We stayed at the castle for our weekend celebration...and It couldn't have went any better than it did. Though our number was on the larger side...there was easily enough privacy space and space for having a blast. The views are amazing, the entire interior was spectacular. Hiking trails, plenty of rooms and space, outdoor activities, plenty of bathrooms, the full time maintenance worker was kind and helpful. Everything about it made for a perfect weekend with family and friends. I would recommend staying at the castle for anyone.

We went as part of a family vacation 18 months ago - my husband, me, our two kids, with my parents who rented the castle, my two brothers and their families and my sister. This place is perfect for adults AND kids, there is a secret stairway, as well as multiple game rooms (third floor and basement.) And the space to run or slide down the hill on snow toys, whether there is snow or not. This was the setting for our Late Summer vacation memory captured forever on video (and potential blackmail material for future fame.) The large play set, and the nice treks around the property provide wildlife glimpses and exercise for the needy. The TV room, multiple areas for gaming, videos, trampoline, trains, toys, offer actitivites for the couch potatoes. The second floor bedroom wing has its own TV room as well as spiral stair to the third floor play room and other bed rooms and areas. The kitchen has two refrigerators, AND a sunken area separated by a wall for videos / movies / tv so food preparation doesn't mean you don't get to be part of it all. The patio and casual dining are right off the kitchen and viewing room. There is a hottub. Remember to close it off - - the energy costs for this place must be outrageous, and the owners are clearly interested in making it work both for them and us, the renters (so help save some energy!) The rooms are lovely, we had the Master Bedroom Suite's ante-room, because we drew the short straw. So if you can imagine a beautiful bedroom being the worst, imagine how lovely the others are!! The reason I am writing this review now, I remembered one of the coolest things was the automated air system they set up to keep the house cool with solar reflective drapes and and air pull system. Now that we are planning to renovate our own castle in PA, I am hoping the owners will send us the information about how the system works, and how to go about installing one ourselves. If you can find an available time to rent this Castle, go for it! We used the casual table for meals, except our Castle Attire dinner, and the rest of the time, we left our quilting and craft projects there. This place would be perfect for any group that respects other peoples' property while having fun. This is not a place for drunken bachelor groups. It is a great place to make a family memory. If you can, arrange some lists for food ahead, as stores were about a 20 minute drive; the hosts were great about letting us 'borrow' and replace food items.

We highly recommend staying at "The Castle!" Our family truly and thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay at the castle. The place is undeniably one of the most beautiful vacation-spots we could have ever hoped for. The grand castle, to us, had many pleasant faces; its placidity permitted for quiet, long-lasting relaxation, but it also created an atmosphere of joy, cheerfulness,& jubilation. Apart from the peace of mind & serenity, we found many activities to fulfill & complete our sojourn there. We utilized the quiet, empty roads for serene mini-hikes, the waterstream & lake for kayaking, paddle-boating, & water-tubing, and your beautiful backyards for sports by day and marvelous fireworks by night. One cannot forget the care, generosity, and devotion that you and your caretaker Mike have given us. The house was fully furnished, your lands were manecured, and the hot-tub & swimming pool were excellent additions. We couldn't have enjoyed our stay any better! Thanks for everything!

I can't say enough about the fantastic atmosphere that this property has to offer. We had a great time relaxing, playing frizbie golf, hiking in the woods, and this house is perfect for a family vacation, retreats, etc. It's clear you could have pleanty of fun in the winter as well with the miles of x-country ski trails and snowshoe trails. The worst part was that we only had 3 days! Thanks again!

One of my favorite aspects of the whole property was actually the nice, large, level field in the back for yard games, baseball, etc. The house speaks for itself and is awe-inspiring. Check it out...you won't be disappointed!

Earlier this month a group of us stormed the castle for a weekend. It was amazing. The grounds were such a pleasure to stroll through. The frisbee-golf course was really fun. And then there is the castle -- wow. From the games room to the turrets, it was a blast. Enjoy!

You can't ask for a more secluded location - total privacy on 500 acres in the hilly forests of New Hampshire, not to mention the huge house with tons of indoor space to enjoy in case the weather doesn't cooperate. Highlights were grand basement bar and spacious landings on the top of the castle for enjoying the warm summer evening. Had a blast exploring all the property had to offer; woods, water and the huge lawn made a great sports field. Don't forget to visit the Frisbee golf course!

This is a truly amazing property!! Had one of my best weekends ever here for the July 4th weekend 2009. If you want to feel like nobility for a weekend / week, this is truly a place to go. . There were numerous great on-site facilities including the outdoor hot tub and the sun chairs. Also the bar in the basement is an amazing set-up. Had so much fun down there with friends. Bedroom's were of a very high standard and all facilities were kept nice and tidy. The view from the castle of the surrounding areas were wonderful. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in having a luxurious weekend away in the countryside

I rented the castle with a bunch of friends and can't say enough about how great it was. Believe it or not those pictures don't even do it justice and don't include an enormous lawn which was great for our group's whiffleb-ball game. There are multiple towers and a large roof from which there is a panoramic view of the countryside and Mount Manadnok. John (the owner) was extremely nice and helpful through the whole rental process. He even arranged for a daily newspaper to be delivered. We had a fantastic weekend all around and I not only wouldn't hesitate to rent it again but am counting down the days until I do so.
