WinterWood is a vacation home located on a private island in Hillsdale County Michigan just outside of the small town of Reading and 15 miles from Coldwater and Hillsdale.. It is a beautiful three bedroom home surrounded by a chain of small fishing lakes: Turner, Mead and Ribeck. WinterWood is one of only three residences on the Island. The other two are used occasionally on weekends.

As you leave your car under the car port and walk across the 250 foot wooden foot bridge to the island you leave the world behind. You are surrounded by TOTAL solitude. The neighbors on the land side are the nicest people. Almost all have located there because of the fishing

The fishing is GREAT. You have a small private dock at your disposal. There are small and large mouth bass, bluegills, all kinds of pan fish, perch, catfish, bullheads, and many more. Fishing is fantastic! Great grey herons lazily wait in the marsh areas during the summer. One year we even had swans. We always have a lot of ducks and Canadian geese and other wild fowl.

The island is a small wooded hill. You walk up three flights of stairs to the entry level. Winterwood overlooks the Reynolds Mill Pond which opens up to the lakes. The lakes are connected by channels. Immediately behind the island is a vast expanse of wetland which goes to Ribeck Lake.

During the week you pretty much have the entire lake area to yourself. There is the occasional pontoon or small fishing boat. The channel areas are "no wake" areas. There is absolutely NO water skiing, NO speed boating and NO jet skiing. SOLITUDE reigns supreme here. The lakes now cover what used to be a forest. The water depth goes down to 60 feet. There are plenty of logs under water for the bass.

If you bring your boat we have a place to launch it if it fits under the wooden bridge. If it does you can dock it at the Winterwood dock. If it does not fit under the bridge, there is a private camp ground at the other side of the lake where you can launch it for $10.00. We will credit that fee towards the rental. If you have to launch it there, you can dock your boat at the neighbor's dock next door. [We own that place, too.]

The living room is HUGE. There is a big fire place, THREE large sofas [one is a sofa bed], television, VCR, CD player, DVD player, telephone, electric organ, reclining chair, dining area with table and four chairs, a large coffee table in front of each sofa with the appropriate end tables and decorations. There is a large bathroom with a tub located immediately off the living room

The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a set of bunk beds and a private bath with a sit down shower. The second bedroom has a set of twin beds. The back bedroom has two sets of bunk beds. The living room has three sofas, one of which is a sofa/bed.

The basement has a poker table and an electric fireplace.

There are two dining areas: One in the large kitchen and one in the living room by the door wall overlooking the deck and the lakes.

We expect and require that you respect the privacy and solitude of our neighbors. Loud music playing, loud parties, and [you get the picture] are forbidden. We want you to come to WinterWood to enjoy the serenity, GREAT fishing and beauty of nature. If you find that too stifling, we have a great deal of materials which we have acquired that will show you TONS of tourist attractions within a 20 mile area. [However, we doubt if you will ever want to leave the Island.] We, also, have a lot of family and children's games MANY videos for your entertainment. There are, also, computer games and dial up internet access.

Our rate is $750.00 per week.
50% Reservation Deposit at time of booking [refundable if we find other renters)
$200 cleaning/security deposit is required, Returned after check-out.
Full payment is due 30 days prior to arrival - 5PM check in, 10AM check out
Less than a week:  $150 for 1st night, $125 thereafter - 3 night minimum
Pets considered --- NO SMOKING
