The following was written in the guest book summer 2011 by Dr. David and college classmates: "ALL FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH CONVERGED UPON THIS IDYLLIC PLACE. WE'VE BEEN TRAVELING TOGETHER FOR YEARS NOW, AND THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST, MOST TRANQUIL AND RELAXING PLACES WE HAVE EVER STAYED IN AND THAT'S CERTAINLY SAYING SOMETHING! FANTASTIC VIEWS, RUNNING ROUTES, CANOEING AND KAYAKING - WE COULD HARDLY BEAR TO LEAVE, EVEN TO BUY MORE FOOD AND DRINK. THE SAUNA HAS SET A NEW STANDARD OF LUXURY IN OUR HOLIDAYS - AND COULD ONLY BE IMPROVED WITH A WATER SLIDE STRAIGHT INTO THE LAKE! THANK YOU TO JUDI AND PANCHO - WE'D LOVE TO COME BACK. PS. AFTER YEARS OF STUDYING, AND WITH 5 PHD'S BETWEEN US, DR. DAVID FINALLY REALIZED THAT ZEN IS TO BE FOUND IN A HAMMOCK - BY A LAKE - WITH A BIRD SINGING TO YOU."
I travel a lot and love peaceful places in nature. When I return to my home on the lake I´m always amazed at how beautiful and quiet it is here.
Situated on the eastern shore of Lake Memphremagog to ensure a sunset view and mere steps from the water you will be spoiled forever after staying here. The large, wooden house is a one mile drive from the main road on a dead end driveway. The house is very comfortable with more windows than walls but when not inside enjoying the spacious kitchen, fireplace and comfy bedrooms and jacuzzi tubs you´ll spend your time out on the big deck built around 2 Silver Birch trees gazing at the lake, dining at the round table and listening to the breeze whisper through the giant pine trees. When not on the deck you´ll be soaking up the sun on the dock, in the sauna, kayaking, swimming, biking, jogging or walking the country roads and trails through the woods inhabited only by deer, birds, small animals, and mushrooms.
If you do decide to explore the interesting border community we live in you will be delighted by the small towns nearby. On the Canadian side here in Quebec the French culture flourishes! Foodies will love the many interesting choices in the markets (we have a Farmer's market on Sunday now!) and in the restaurants. You will also be delighted by the Blacksmith Gallery, Colby Curtis museum and the Haskell Opera House and library with the US/Canadian border running right through it! These attractions are minutes from the Silver Birches.
The Silver Birches is large and comfortable and easily accommodates 10 people. The tower is a big hit, especially with the young set who prefer sleeping there to a bedroom! The ecosystem is very delicate here and only biodegradable soaps are used. The house is cleaned using gentle, natural cleaners and we recycle whatever we possibly can and compost. The theme of the small, friendly neighborhood is pleasure and peace. There is a space for a power boat at the dock but all immediate neighbors, including us have non motorized craft only. One can rent a boat to tour the interesting 26 mile long lake.
We have a lab and pets are welcome but they must be very well mannered and not allowed on furniture and not prone to barking a lot.
E mail me for photos of the inside. See you at the lake!
Judi

Judi and Tiger, We had such a great time! When our planned trip was cancelled we never dreamed that what we would book as a last minute replacement would turn out to be even better! The boys had so much fun! Kayaking, fishing, swimming - and I'm not sure your hammock ever got this much use! For David and I, it was truly relaxing. Exactly what we desperately needed. The only problem is - it was too short!! We can't wait to come back next summer!

Having just completed my last run on the hilly gravel roads followed by my last dash into the lake, I am now ready to leave. Not sad at having to go but refreshed and excited to now be feeling at least a few years younger. For a runner, the nearly complete lack of cars make the many interesting country roads an absolute (albeit challenging) treasure. In fact this place has a complete lack of almost everything one goes on vacation to get away from. Yet - whether it be canoe, kayak, deck chairs, or hammock - the lake and mountain vistas beyond never ceased to be interesting. Our 12 year old son never once complained of being bored and our 20 year old daughter made the tower her own private domain. Yet they both enjoyed more good times together than they have all summer. Although we came for privacy, we were very grateful for our hosts invitation to share wine with them and some of the neighbors. Lucky souls all to be able to call one of the most beautiful places on earth home. Thanx, Rod and family

All four corners of the earth converged upon this idyllic place. We've been travelling together for years now, and this is one of the finest, most tranquil and relaxing places we have ever stayed in - and that is certainly saying something! Fantastic views, running routes, canoeing and kayaking - we could hardly bear to leave, even to buy more food and drink. The sauna has set a new standard of luxury in our holidays - and could only be improved by a water slide straight into the lake! Thank you to Judi and Pancho - we'd love to come back. ps After years of studying, and with 5 phd's between us, Dr. David finally realized that zen is to be found in a hammock - by a lake - with a bird singing to you

What a house! What a view! We were so thrilled to experience Tiger and Judi's heavenly perch over Lake Memphremagog. We have read, sunned, and sipped wine from every wooden lounge chair on the premises! The cozy kitchen and fireplace inspired us to cook lavish meals and dine late into the night! We are loathe to leave, but thanks to the Silver Birches we shall re-enter our daily routines relaxed and restored! Fondly, Amanda and friends.
