The Farm is a traditional Irish farmhouse over 200 years old, that has been renovated and extended by the owners for their annual vacations and future retirement. It is in a beautiful private location surrounded by farmland, in the hills above Glandore. The Farm directly overlooks Glandore Harbour with views across the harbour to Union Hall, and from the garden there are more spectacular views to the south and south-west to the open sea. The 12th century harbour and the waterfront pubs and restaurants of Glandore are within walking distance.

The atmosphere in the house reflects a family home. It easily accommodates eight people. There are four bedrooms (two with king beds convertable to twin, and two with twin beds), three bathrooms (one en-suite), fully equipped kitchen/dining room, sitting room, conservatory, utility area with washing machine and dryer. The house is tastefully furnished with old pine furniture, oil paintings and nautical prints, fitted carpets, rugs and local pottery. There is a small TV with free satellite channels, DVD player and a telephone. Heating is by electric night storage heaters and a cast iron stove in the sitting room.
No smoking is allowed in the house.

Glandore is an attractive village nestled in a corner of Glandore Harbor and located on the south west coast of County Cork, Ireland approximately two hours from Cork Airport. The village and nearby villages of Leap, Union Hall, Castletownsend and Rosscarbery are steeped in local history. The market towns of Clonakilty and Skibbereen are about 20 minutes drive away. Further afield are the sea-faring towns of Kinsale and Baltimore. Kinsale is also well known as a gourmet centre with many excellent restaurants and pubs. The very popular seaside resorts of Inchadoney, with its luxury spa and the blue flag beach of Owenahincha.

Glandore hosts an annual summer sailing school, and the bi-annual Glandore Classic regatta in July, when old wooden boats come from all over Europe. Almost every week during the summer there is some kind of racing, sailing and/or rowing.

Why the Owner Chose Glandore

We bought and developed the Farm for our vacation and eventual retirement home. The original 200 year old farmhouse was derelict when we purchased it but the beautiful view and the tranquil surrounding area were perfect for our needs. The village is very friendly and the local yacht club is based in the pubs around the harbor. And being able to walk home from the pub was an added bonus.

We stayed at The Farm May 2010. We loved it! The house is very roomy and very comfortable. The view is amazing. We will definitely stay here again if we ever get the chance. Be sure to go to the fish market across the bridge for fresh fish!!!

Our Visit to "The Farm"

Guest: sandstorm (United States)
Date of Stay: 05/27/10 Review Submitted: 06/04/11

I can't even begin to say how wonderful "The Farm" was to visit. We wished we had another week's stay when we left. It was so relaxing and inviting. We adopted three horses who are now wondering where their friends with the carrots and apples went to!!! The accommodations were clean and well planned out. The views were breathtaking from more than one room. We thoroughly enjoyed driving around the area and shopping for food in the market in Union Hall. The hotel at the bottom of the hill served excellent food, and everyone we met were friendly and helpful. I would heartily recommend visiting "The Farm" to anyone who would ask me.

Party of friends from Northern Ireland Easter break

Guest: Stephen and KLAS (Kinallen 20 miles south of Belfast N.I.)
Date of Stay: 04/23/11 Review Submitted: 05/08/11

We stayed at The Farm for a break over Easter this year and had a great time, the house was exceedingly well equipped inside and out. With the good weather we made good use of the BBQ. Most evenings we would sit outside and soak up the view over the small harbour of Glandore and the fishing fleet over across the lough at Unionhall. We had a few problems with the showers at the Farm but these were quickly and efficiently fixed. This was our first time in West Cork and The Farm was a great place to explore the region, from the local food markets to the delights of Cork City (about an hour away by car) or the beaches and ancient monuments. To summarise, we loved The Farm, the views and exploring the area in West Cork.

Owner response:Glad you loved The Farm despite the shower problems.

wonderful Ireland in spring

Guest: Stalkopf (Barsinghausen, Germany)
Date of Stay: 04/16/11 Review Submitted: 04/29/11

We rented The Farm for a week in April and have been absolutely satisfied. The contact with John & Sally to arrange everything in advance was always easy and pleasant, questions have been answered quickly and comprehensively. We were a group of 6 people and there was plenty of space for us, the layout of the house is really successful. The furnishings meet the character of the farmhouse and we all found it lovely and just “wunderschoen”. The technical equipment (dishwasher, laundry, dryer, WLAN!) made our live easy – maybe a CD player would be a good addition to play the CD’s with the Irish pub songs probably every tourist buys in the souvenir shops … We had great weather conditions so we used the char grill a lot (buy fresh fish and seafood from “The Fish Shop” in Union Hall – absolutely recommended!), walked to the local pubs in Glandore and the stone circle in Drombeg. Our children liked to play in the garden, fed the horses on the adjacent grazing land. But also just to sit in the winter garden or in the living room, reading a book or having a delicious Murphys made it a very recreative and memorable holiday. Thank you Sally & John, all the best – the Stalkopf family

Owner response:Many thanks for the positive comments. We have added a CD player as suggested.

Wonderful

Guest: Patsy (USA)
Date of Stay: 10/09/10 Review Submitted: 10/18/10

The farmhouse far exceeded our expectations. It is a lovely home in a beautiful, peaceful and private setting. A walk down the lane brings you to the pretty harbor and village. Our only difficulty was deciding whether to explore the many sights of the area or just relax and enjoy the farmhouse. What a wonderful dilemma to have. We couldn't have chosen a more perfect place or area for our first trip to Ireland and would love to return.

Lovely!

The Farm is located in a ideallic Irish location. We found the house to be welcoming and comfortable. The owners were quick to respond to our inquiry and questions. We spent our days exploring the southern coastal villages. In the evening we enjoyed the local seafood, and especially the chowder at The Marine, at the bottom of the hill. We will recommend The Farm to anyone who is interested in staying in the southern portion of Ireland.

This is one of the most relaxed, private, self-catering spots you can find in Ireland! We have been twice and would love to come over more often. It's spacious enough to bring all your friends and family, but a wonderfully romantic spot for just two, as my husband I find. I can also imagine it as a place to be by yourself, without feeling lonely or isolated. It looks like a genuine old-fashioned Irish cottage inside and out, but is up-to-date for comfort (heat, lighting, beds, showers, bath) and amenities (everything you need is there). Choose to cook for yourself in the fully equipped kitchen (shops close by for groceries), or eat out (good restaurant/pub within walking distance, others easy to drive to); stay there the entire time (it's a quiet place to read, write, hike, entertain, sleep in), or take day trips to picture-postcard locations all around the coast and inland. There are warm personal touches throughout the house, from the bedding to the decor, which make it feel like a home rather than a rental or a hotel. Bunnies scamper across the lawn early morning, cats wander down the lane, and there are farms all around. It's a good place to be in the spring and summer, but consider Christmas too: it's beautiful in the snow and even in the rain. This is the "real Ireland" in beauty and comfort.

We have stayed in this property on more than one occasion. It is spacious yet very homey and extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the view, the friendly village pubs, and walks around the area. We would happily stay again, and would recommend it to friends.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday. The Farm is an ideal retreat in which to relax, yet also an excellent base to enjoy the local flavour and scenery, off which there is much to explore. Good food was available within walking distance in the village, which also has a lovely little promenade overlooking the river where you can watch the local sailing activities. The property is very spacious and excellently presented. One off our favourite times was just to sit on the bench, outside of the kitchen, in the twilight enjoying the peacefulness and the view, a most tranquil moment. We will be back.
